-7-
4-2 STATIC CHARACTERISTIC CHECK OF RIVERNEW VK VIBRATION TRANSDUCER
(1) Fix a sensor on the holder using an adapter suitable for sensor thread size.
(2) Set spindle micrometer scale to zero.
(3) Position the sensor into the spindle micrometer so that the sensor tip lightly
contacts the target.
(To position the sensor into the spindle micrometer, adjust holder position or
loosen the screw located at the slide arm and move the target.)
Secure the sensor in position. Fix the holder and micrometer mounting screws
so that the sensor tip and the target are in parallel.
(4) Connect the calibration kit as shown Fig. 4-1.
(5) Connect the sensor with a VW extension cable and VK driver.
(6) Connect the “-24V” terminal on the VK driver with the power supply minus
output and the “COM” terminal on the VK driver with the power supply
“COMMON”, respectively.
(7) Connect a digital multimeter (hereinafter called DMM) with “OUT” and
“COM” on the VK driver as shown in Fig. 4-1.
(8) Supply power to the VK driver.
(9) Adjust the spindle micrometer 250 more µm away from the sensor face.
The DMM should indicate 2 volts more for a 200mV/25µm calibration scale
factor.

(10) Thus, a static characteristic curve can be drawn.
Graduate the axis of ordinates by dividing it into 2V/cm.
Also graduate the axis of abscissas by dividing it into 100µm/cm.
Set the zero position of sensor set gap so that it may correspond to the zero
position on the curve.
Turn the spindle micrometer and gradually widen sensor set gap.
Then, draw a voltage change curve until the voltage change will exceed the
sensor measuring range.
(11) In accordance with the procedures described above, the
Statie characteristic of a RIVERNEW VK vibration transducer in the
specific connection loop has been checkd.
•The voltage change curve up to about 100 to 200µm does not become
perfectly linear. An obvious gradient change may start from the
neighbourhood of 150µm. This starting point may slightly differ
depending on a sensor and a driver to be calibrated and a target
material to be used.
•The linear range is assured up to 2,000µm (target material: JIS
SCM440).
•Draw The curve until it may deviate from the linear range.
•Store The perfectly calibrated curve for future reference.
For a target with a different material, re-check of the RLVERNEW
VK vibration transducer is required.

4-3 VIBRATION CALIBRATION
The WOBBLE calibration unit is a device to generate accurate standard
vibration necessary for calibration of vibration monitors and for dynamic
characteristic check of RIVERNEW VK vibration transducers.
Perform setting of vibration calibration in accordance with the following
procedures:
(Refer to Fig. 4-1 for device connection.)
(1) Install the dial indicator on the slide arm using an adapter for M8.
(2) Manuallty rotate the WABBLE plate and then move the slide arm until the
dial indicator indicates a appropriate peak-to-peak vibration range. (amplitude
of an equipment actually measured).
Rotating the spindle micrometer moves the slide arm.
(3) Check the slide arm position for every 10µm just before and behind the
appropriate peak-to-peak vibration range by the micrometer scale.
(4) Remove the dial indicator and install a sensor. Pay attention so that slide arm
position may not change at this time.
(5) Determine the sensor set gap from the set gap voltage measured by the
vibration monitor or from the curve drawn in Item
4-2 afrer voltage measurement by DMM.
When the monitor is used, refer to the instruction manual of each
monitor.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the dial indicator, do not turn on
the monitor switch while the dial indicator is mounted in
the slide arm.
For the appropriate peak-to-peak vibration range, refer to technical
manual of an equipment measured.

4. CALIBRATION VZ-35A (4986-009)

(6) Check that the power supply switch on this calibration kit is turned
off. Select the voltage by the voltage select switch.
Check that the speed controller is off. Connect a power supply
cable. Set the speed controller to the MIN. position and then
gradually turn it to a clockwise (right turn) direction.
The WOBBLE plate starts rotating.
(7) Check that monitor indicator scale matches with dial
indicator scale.
If not, adjust monitor gain (Refer to Instruction Manual of each
monitor).
4-4 THRUST CALIBRATION
(1) Install a sensor in accordance with the same procedures as those
in 4-2.
(Refer to Fig.4-1 for device connection.)
(2) Set the appropriate set gap to “ZERO” (set gap of the sensor installed on an
equipment actually measured) and then check that the thrust direction from
“ZERO” matches with the thrust direction polarity of thrust monitor.(For
the
thrust direction polarity, refer to the specifications for thrust monitor.)
(3) Check that monitor indicator scale matches with spindle micrometor scale.
If not, adjust monitor gain. (Refer to Instruction Manual for thrust monitor.)
CAUTION
To avoid circuit damage, connect the power supply after
checking that the voltage select switch is in the position
of either 115V or 230V.

5. INSTALLATION OF PHASE MARKER VZ-35A (4986-009)
-11-
5-1 INSTALLATION OF PHASE MARKER SENSOR
(1) Connect the devices as shown in Fig.4-1.
(2) Install the phase marker sensor on the holder with a sensor adapter.
(3) Turn on the power supply switch on the calibration kit to rotate the
WOBBLE plate.
(4) Adjust sensor set gap while watching a waveform on oscilloscope so that
suitable pulse signal may be output.
Firmly install the sensor.
