Introduction
This document describes the
software and other changes introduced
with the following new software
versions:
• ES70SW1.0.1
This software controls all
functionalityintheSimradES70echo
sounder. This includes transmission
and reception, interfaces with external
peripherals and sensors, and all user
interface (echograms and menus).

4909: AutoPingStart
WhenstartingES70pingingwill
always be disabled. The Operation
tabwillashtoremindyoutoenable
pinging.
4917: Temperatur reading
You can now read the temperature
recorded by an analogue sensor
connected to the General Purpose
Transceiver (GPT). The readout is
placed in the Title Bar. To enable the
readout, you must activate the feature
in the Environment dialog.
4983: Improved TS detector
The algorithms have been
improved to better identify single
targets for size estimation.
5015: USB serial adapter
InthepreviousES70version,there
were some problems with detecting
USBserialadaptersandPCIexpress
serialadapterboardsunderWindows
7.Thisissuehasbeenxed.
5068: 3-channel GPT
Supportfor3-channelGPTunitis
now provided.
5103: Display setup
Parameters for dual display
systems are automatically stored.
Thiswilloffertrouble-freelayout
whenES70isusedwithtwodisplay
monitors.
5177/ 5235: Bottom detection
The bottom detector application
now uses the predicted depth when
itfailstondcurrentbottomdepth.
This improves performance in noisy
environments.
5194/5226: Biomass
InthepreviousES70version,we
had certains errors in the biomass
calculations. These errors have been
corrected.
Somereportedproblemswith
biomass during start range and range
parametermodicationshavebeen
corrected.
5234: Trawl depth
The trawl depth presentation has
been changed to take the quality of the
input data into consideration.
Minimum computer requirements
Ifyoupurchaseacomputerlocally,itisimportantto
make sure that the chosen model meets the functional
systemrequirements.Thecomputermustfulllthe
various interface requirements made by the system,
andyoumayneedtoaddextraEthernetandserial
adapters. Also, make sure that the computer design and
construction allows for marine use and safe installation.
A laptop computer may be used as long as it meets the
functional requirements.
The minimum requirements are:
• Processor:2GHz,Dualcore
• Memory: 2 Gb
• Free hard disk space:30Gb
• Graphic adapter:Seeseparatesection.
• Interfaces:MinimumoneEthernetinterface,two
are required if the computer shall be connected
totheship’snetwork.Oneormoreserialline
interfaces are also required, the number of serial
lines depend on the requested interface capabilities.
Operating system
TheES70softwarehasbeendesignedfor32-bit
Windows®XP®and 32-bit Windows 7®. For new
installations, we recommend that Windows 7 is used.
OnWindowsXPcomputers,ServicePack3is
required.
About graphic adapters
ThegraphicadaptermustsupportDirectX9.0c,and
mustbecompatiblewithDirect3dandOpenGL.Alarge
number of commercial graphic adapters are available,
andSimradhasnottestedallofthem.Evenadapters
thatmeettheminimumspecicationsmayfailwith
theES70software.Wewelcomeanyfeedbackwith
comments or experiences with graphic adapters.
About USB serial adapters
IfyouhaveconnectedaUSB-to-serialadaptertothe
computer,donotremoveitwhiletheES70isrunning.
Also,donotmovetheadaptertoadifferentUSBsocket
on the computer.
