Firstofall,wewouldliketocongratulatewithyouforyourchoiceofourSinfoniTempoamplifier.
Ifyouarereadingthisshortintroductioninsteadofmadlyflickacrossthepagesofthishandbooklooking
forfeaturesliketheweightednoiseortheT.I.M.,thenmaybewehavehitthetargettounveilalittlebitof
thephilosophyofourlaboratories.Infact,youwillnotfindthesefiguresamongthecharacteristicsofour
productsmainlybecauseitisourfirmconvictionthatitisimpossibletovaluesuchaproductonlyonthe
basisofplainnumbers.Itwouldbelikeguessingthetasteofadishreadingjustthelistofitsingredients.
Onlyafterasuitable“tasting”youwillrealizethestrikingsoundpropertiesofourproducts,and
youwillappreciatetheirtransparency,theirmusicality,theirdepthandallotheraspectsthatprobably,asa
Sinfonipurchaser,youalreadyknow.Trytodescribeitwithcoldtechnicalparameters,ifyoucan!

Thisamplifierhasbeendevelopedfollowingtherulesofthehighcurrentamplifiers.Thesetypes
ofamplifiersareprojectedtoworkonreducedandmultiple-loadimpedances.Theywouldseemtohave
ahighercostifcomparedwithtraditional(HighVoltage)amplifiers,butit’simportanttonotbemisledbythe
performanceasdeclaredat4Ω.Theseamplifierscaneasilydoubletheoutputpower,both,instereoand
inbridgedmode,byhalvingtheimpedanceload(lookatpicture1foravisualillustration).Ohm’sLaw,the
mostknownandprobablythemostimportantelectricalformulasaysthatthecurrentisininverserelation
totheresistanceload,soit’seasytoimaginehowmuchcurrentmustgothroughtheamplifyingstageof
theunit.

ThisamplifierfollowsthephilosophyoftheSinfonisound.Tobeahighcurrentamplifiermeans
tohavealotofenergyresourcestodriveverydifficultloadsandeveryoneknowsthatthemostenergy-
consumingsystemsarethatonesthatmakeanintenseuseofmidbassandsubfrequencies.Therefore
wecansaythatthisamplifiercanbeveryusefulwhenworkingwithsuchsystems.Thisdoesn’tmeanthat
itonlycanbeusedforsubwoofers,asshownonthepagesofthishandbook,infactthisamplifiercan
beusedtodriveanykindofsystem.Tofacilitateitsusewithsubwoofersthisamplifierhasamongother
functionalitiesphase-shifterforthesubfrequency.

It’simpossibleforthehumaneartobeawareoffrequenciesbelow20Hz,butdespiteofthisfact
amplifiersusuallyreproducetheseverylowfrequencies,consumingsoamountsofpreciousenergy.By
simplyactivatingthesubsonicfilterfeature,theamplifierwillexcludeallfrequenciesbelow25Hz.Forthat
purposeahighpass,18dB/octaveat25Hz,filterisused.Thisfeatureisalsohelpfulwhenusingsmaller
woofersthatarenotabletoreproducelowerfrequencies.
VeryoftentheplacementofaSubwooferinsideacarcompartmentcanbeaverycomplicated
issue.ThePhaseShiftingfeatureoffersarapidandsimplesolutiontothisannoyingproblem.Switchingon
thePhasefunctionallowstoshiftcontinuouslyfrom0to180°thephaseofthesubwoofer.Thismeansthat
youcanmovethewavefromthereartothefrontofthecarbysimplyusingtheproperpotentiometeron
thefrontpanel.

Thisamplifierisequippedwithabuilt-inLowPassCross-Over,veryeasytoswitchonandoff
bypushingthebuttononthefrontpanel.Oncethecross-overisactivated,thecut-offfrequencycanbe
regulated,from40to150Hz,throughtheproperpotentiometer.Mutli-amplifiedsysteminstallationsare
nowsomucheasiertoimplement.

InordertoallowasimultaneousStereo-Monoconnection,themostcaramplifiersmakeuseof
theTrimodecapability,whichoffersthepossibilitytoconnectaSubwoofer,inbridgedmode,toastereo
system.Inordertoaccomplishthis,theRightinputchannelisinversedby180°.ByswitchingOffthe
Trimodemodus,therotationoftheRightinputdoesnothappen,thereforetheleftandrightchannelsare
nowinphasewitheachother,ratherthanbeing180°outofphasewitheachother.
OfcoursewheninTrimodeOffthepolarityoftheRightoutputconnectorisinverted.Herefollows
agraphicalillustrationofthedifferencebetweenthetwodifferentTrimodestatuses.Pleasenoticealsohow
thepolarityofthespeakerconnectorchangeswhenTrimodeisOff.

Themostcommonreasontouseamonophonicinputistousetheamplifierinabridgedcon-
figuration,butasyouwilldiscoveronthishandbook,nottheonlyone.Thankstothisfeature,insteadof
usingaYcable,youcanconnectonlytheLinputtoyoursource.Thiswillallowyoutheadvantageto
haveasingleinputforbothchannels,sincewhenusingaYcableit’snoteasytotrimeachinputlevelto
thesamepoint.Amonoinputcanalsobeveryusefulwhenworkingwithbi-wiring,asexampleforpassive
multi-amplificationconfigurations.

TheSinfonicaramplifiersaredesignedtoworkwitha12VDCpowersupply,howeverthe
voltagecanrangefrombetween11Vand14.5V.PowerSupplycablesmustbeofasuitablegauge,
keepinginmindthatthenegativeonemustbeconnectedtothegroundinthenearestpointofthecar
chassis,whilethepositiveonemustcomedirectlyfromthebattery.Ifthedistancefromthebatterytothe
apparatusisquitelong,thenitwillbenecessarytousethickercables,inordertoavoidanyperformance
loss:wesuggestyourinstallertouseatleastgoodqualityAWG8OxygenFreeCoppercables.TheREM
input(remote)mustbeconnectedtotheremoteoutputofthesource,whichmustprovideatleasta60mA
current,foreveryinstalledSinfoniunit.

differentTRIMODEstatuses,itisveryimportanttounderstandthetechnicaldifferencesbetweenTRIMODE
ONandTRIMODEOFF,sinceawrongwiringcanaffectthequalityoftheinstallation.Onlythecreativity
andtheabilityoftheinstallercantellwhatsystemisthebestsolutionforyourneeds,alotdependsonthe
musicalresultyouwanttoachieve,andontheacousticcharacteristicsofyourspecificvehicle.Therefore
wesuggesttoalwayscooperatewithprofessionalandtrustedinstallers.Somefeaturescanworkincon-
junctionwithothersandsomefeaturesexcludeothers;pleasehavealookatthediagrambelow,taking
