1.2 DESCRIPTION
ThisMMUIIcontrollerisdesignedtofunctionwiththetransceiverRS‐232serial
portstocontrolthedialingandtextmessagingofatransceiversoequipped.
TheMMUIIisaPOTS(PlainOldTelephoneSystem)telephonydevicethatinterfaces
a2‐wirePOTSsystemsuchasasatellitetransceiverto4‐wireaircraftaudiopanel.
A2x16VFDdisplay,rotaryknob/push‐buttonand12‐digitkeypadprovidetheuser
interface.Phonefunctionalityissupportedviadirectkeypaddialingaswellaspre‐
configuredphonenumbersviaamenuorspeeddialbutton.InadditiontheMMUII
servesasamessagingterminalprovidingpre‐storedorfreeformtextmessaging
throughaproprietaryRS‐232serialinterface.Messagingissupportedonboththe
2x16characterdisplayaswellWi‐Fidevicesviathebuilt‐inWi‐Fisupport.An
internalWi‐Fiantennaisprovidedandanoptionalexternalantennamaybeused.

1.6.1 LimitedProductWarranty.
DuringtheWarrantyPeriod(asdefinedbelow),Producthardwareandmediaarewarranted(a)to
conformtoSeller'spublishedspecificationsthereforineffectasofthedateofshipmentand(b)tobe
freefromdefectsinmaterialandworkmanship.DuringtheWarrantyPeriod,softwareandfirmware
ProductsarewarrantedtoconformtoSeller'spublishedspecificationsthereforineffectasofthe
dateofshipment.TheWarrantyPeriodistwelve(12)monthsforProducthardwareandtwelve(12)
monthsforProductsoftwareandfirmware.Productsupportbeyondtheseperiodsisavailableat
additionalcostunderthetermsofSeller'sExtendedWarrantyprograms.TheWarrantyPeriodfora
ProductshallcommenceuponshipmentoftheProductWarrantyClaims.
WarrantyclaimsaremadebyBuyercontactingtheSeller'sCustomerServiceCenter("CSC").Seller's
warrantyincludesone(1)yearMondaythroughFriday8AMto5PMaccesstotheCSC,excluding
holidays,forthepurposeoffacilitatingwarrantyclaims.Sellershallincurnoliabilityunderthis

a.Theallegedlydefectivehardware,atFieldLineReplaceableUnit("FLRU")level,
mustbereturnedbyBuyertoSellerinaccordancewithSeller'sReturntoFactory
repairprocedures
b.BuyeragreestopaySeller'sNTF(notroublefound)chargeforFRUsreturned
underwarrantythatarefoundnottobedefective.
c.Duringthetwelve(12)monthsoftheWarrantyPeriod,Sellermay,atitssole
option,provideanadvancereplacementofadefectiveFRU.IfSellerprovides
advancereplacementBuyermustreturnthedefectiveProducttoSellerwithin
twenty(20)daysofreceiptofthereplacementProduct.IfBuyerdoesnotreturnthe
defectiveProducttoSellerwithinthistwenty‐dayperiod,SellerwillinvoiceBuyer
forthereplacementProductatthethenlistprice.Buyershallpaytheinvoiced
amountinU.S.dollars,bycash,checkorwiretransfertoSeller'saccount,within
thirty(30)daysofthedateofsuchinvoice.
d.TheWarrantyPeriodforthereplacedProductshallbetheremainderofthe
WarrantyPeriodoftheoriginalunit.
e.WhenproductisinwarrantytheBuyerissolelyresponsibleforallfreightcharges,

1.6.1.2Software:SoftwareUpdatesmayberequiredfromtimetotimeforsystemoptimizationand
improvedperformance.CSCwillusecommerciallyreasonableeffortstoprovide,onanon‐
prioritybasis,correctionorworkaroundoftheproblembymeansoftelephonesupportby
meansreasonablydeterminedbySeller.Selleragreesthatitwillsupportthethen‐current
ReleaseofSoftwarefortheapplicablehardwarelevel.Seller'swarrantydoesnotincludethe
provisionofSoftwareUpgrades.
SellershallincurnoliabilityunderthiswarrantyifSeller'stestsdisclosethatthealleged
defectisduetocausesnotwithinSeller'sreasonablecontrol,includingalterationorabuseof
thegoods.IfaProductisdeterminednottobedefectiveortohaveadefectduetocausesnot
withinSeller'sreasonablecontrol,Buyeragreestopayforsuchrepairattherepairpriceas
listedinSeller'sthencurrentU.S.pricelist.Buyeralsoagreestopayfortestinginsuch
instance.
Selleralsowarrants,exceptasstatedinSeller'spublishedspecifications,orasotherwise
agreed,thatanysoftwareprovidedtoCustomerbySellershall,toSeller'sknowledgeasof
thedateofthisAgreement:(a)containnohiddenfiles;(b)notreplicate,transmit,oractivate
itselfwithoutcontrolofapersonoperatingcomputingequipmentonwhichitresides;(c)not
alter,damage,oreraseanydataorcomputerprogramswithoutcontrolofaperson
operatingthecomputingequipmentonwhichitresides;or(d)containsnonodelock,time‐
outorotherfunction,whetherimplementedbyelectronic,mechanicalorothermeans,which
restrictsormayrestrictuseofaccesstoanyprogramsordatadevelopedunderthis
Agreement,basedonfrequencyordurationofuse,orotherlimitingcriteria.
Seller'sLiability:Seller'sliability,andCustomer'ssoleandexclusiveremedy,shallbelimited
totheexpressremediessetforthinthissection.
1.6.2DisclaimerofWarranties.
EXCEPTFORTHEEXPRESSWARRANTIESSTATEDINTHISSECTION,THEPRODUCTSARE
PROVIDED"ASIS"ANDSELLERDISCLAIMSANYANDALLOTHERWARRANTIESWHETHER
EXPRESS,IMPLIEDORSTATUTORY,WITHRESPECTTOTHEPRODUCTSPROVIDEDUNDERTHIS
AGREEMENTINCLUDING,BUTNOTLIMITEDTO,ANYWARRANTIESOFMERCHANTABILITYOR
FITNESSFORAPARTICULARPURPOSEORNONINFRINGEMENTASWELLASANYWARRANTIES

interfacesoftwareoranyothersoftwareprovidedbythirdpartiesunderajointmarketing,interface
developmentorotherarrangementwithSeller,isnotaProductforpurposesofthisAgreementand
Sellerprovidesnowarranty,guaranteeorotheragreement,whetherexpress,implied,orstatutory,in
respectthereofandbearsnoresponsibilitythereforeorforservicesinrespectthereof.

Out‐of‐WarrantyRepair(Hardware):Sellerwilleitherrepairor,atitsoption,replacedefective
Producthardwarenotcoveredunderwarrantywithintwenty(20)workingdaysofitsreceipt.Repair
chargesareavailablefromtheRepairFacilityuponrequest.ThewarrantyonaservicedProductis
thirty(30)daysfromdateofshipmentoftheservicedunit.Out‐of‐warrantyrepairchargesarebased
uponthepricesineffectatthetimeofreturn.
1.6.3WarrantyExclusions
WarrantydoesnotcoveranydamageorfailurecausedbyanycausebeyondSeller'sreasonable
control,includingwithoutlimitationactsofGod,fire,flooding,earthquake,lightning,failureof
electricpowerorairconditioning,neglect,misuse,improperoperation,war,governmentregulations,
supplyshortages,riots,sabotage,terrorism,unauthorizedmodificationsorrepair,strikes,labor
disputesoranyproductfailurethatSellerdeterminesisnotaresultoffailureintheProduct
providedbySeller.Warrantydoesnotinclude:installationormaintenanceofwiring,circuits,
electricalconduitsordevicesexternaltotheProducts;replacementorreconditioningofProducts
which,inSeller'sopinioncannotbereliablymaintainedorproperlyservicedduetoexcessivewear
ordeterioration;Buyer'sfailuretomaintaintheProductsiteinaccordancewiththeenvironmental
specificationsoftheProducts;orProductsdisassembledorrepairedinsuchamannerastoadversely
affectperformanceorpreventadequateinspectionandtestingtoverifyanywarrantyclaim;
Productsonwhichserialnumbersordatetagshavebeenremoved,alteredorobliterated;Products
rentedonamonth‐to‐monthbasis;ornormalwearandtear.BuyerwillpaySeller'sthencurrent
publishedchargestorestoresuchProductstoaconditioneligibleforfurtherExtendedWarranty
ServiceunderthisAgreement.

controlvoicecallsandsend&receivetextSBDmessages.TheMMUIIcontainsa2‐
line,16characteralphanumericdisplayandarotaryknobwithapushbuttonaction.
ExternalI/OincludesanRS232port,andtwolampdrivers.
TheMMUIIisloadedwitha“MessageSet”,whichissavedinFlashmemory.The
MessageSetcontainsconfigurationdata,thenamesandphonenumberchoicesfor
voicedialing,andthecompletesetoftextmessagesthatcanbeselectedbytheuser
fortransmissiontotheground.
TheMessageSetmaybeloadedonthegroundviatheMMU’sRS232port.
TheMMUIIcommunicateswiththemapapplicationviabinarySBDmessages.
MobileTerminated(“MT”)messagesaresentfromthegroundtotheMMUII
(uplink),andMobileOriginated(“MO”)messagesaresentfromtheMMUIItothe
ground(downlink).ThesemessagesaresenttoandfromtheSkyConnectTracker
Map.Atreleaseofthistext,noothermappingsystemhastheabilitytomakeuseof
textmessagingtoorfromtheaircraft.
MSETManage‐PhonenumbersandmessagesarecreatedfortheMMUIIbyusinga
SkyConnectprogramcalledMSETManage.Thisprogramwillcreateamessageset
ofphonenumbersandcannedmessagestobeloadedintotheMMUIIviaRS‐232
connectionorWi‐Ficonnection.Aconnectorshouldbeinstalledasclosetotheback
oftheMMUIIaspractical,toallowtheRS‐232portbetweenthetransceiverandthe
MMUIItobebroken,andallowtheconnectionofaPCforthispurpose.
