Slingshot 2018 Compstick User manual

2018 COMPSTICK BAR WITH
GUARDIAN SAFETY // QUICK START GUIDE
RENOWNED RIDER SIMPLICITY
Rider simplicity has been at the core of Slingshot’s design principals since
the beginning, and we continue that philosophy with the 2018 Compstick.
Built for ultimate control and confidence in a streamline package, the
Compstick is available in two versions – the below-the-bar system called
the Guardian and the above-the-bar system called the Sentinel.
Available in sizes:
• 17” x 20m
• 20” x 20m + 3m extensions (23m total)
• 23”x 27m
Steering (outside) lines are 500 lb. test and center lines are 800 lb. test.

PUSH AWAY SAFETY
Slingshot’s 2018 Compstick Guardian (below the bar) control bar comes
with a push-away safety release system. This system is simple, reliable and
highly effective. When used properly, activating the safety release will allow
your kite to depower completely as it flags-out on the safety line attached
to your kite leash.
1. To activate the safety release, simply grab the red handle on the
release mechanism just above the chicken loop assembly and push it
away from your harness. This will unhook the chicken loop and allow
kite to flag-out and safely depower.
2. To reset after deploying the release, follow your safety leash and the
safety line until you reach your bar, making sure not to get tangled in
your lines in the process. Once at your bar, reassemble the safety by
pulling up on the red release mechanism, threading the release pin
through the metal loop at the end of your chicken loop and sliding the
release handle down over the pin.
3. To relaunch, feed your center line through the bar until all four lines
are taut, then launch as usual.

PUSH AWAY QUICK RELEASE LEASH RE-ASSEMBLE LEASH
To completely disconnect yourself from the kite, firmly grasp the yellow
safety handle on the Push Away Quick Release Bungee Leash and push
away from you in the same direction the arrow indicates. Once released
you are fully disconnected from the kite.
Insert the front half of stainless steel oval ring in the Amsteel loop.
Fold the oval stainless steel ring over the Amsteel loop and secure the end
of the stainless steel oval ring into the plastic tubing of the safety handle.
Grasp the safety handle and pull it over the stainless steel oval ring and
continue to pull down until it rests securely against the round elastic ball.
Double check that your bungee release is seated properly and secure.

POWER AND DEPOWER
The Guardian is Slingshot’s tried and true below-the-bar depower
system. Sheeting-in and sheeting-out with the bar should be your
primary means of feeding more or less power to your kite.
In addition, you can control power by lengthening or shortening your
depower rope. For less power, pull down on the rope and cleat it at
the desired length. For more power, disengage rope from the cleat
and allow it to pull through to desired length.
To adjust the amount of throw in your bar slide the active stopper ball
up or down the center lines to the desired location.

The use of this product exposes the user to many unavoidable and unexpected risks, dangers and hazards. The suppliers
of this product are not responsible for any damages to property or any personal injury caused by any use, misuse, abuse,
or irresponsible use of this product. Kiteboarding is an extreme sport. Power kites, their lines and control equipment
can be dangerous to flyers and to anyone in the vicinity of their use. Kiteboarding must be taken seriously and we
recommend that, at least in the early stages of use, you seek the guidance of professional instructors and experienced
kiteboarders. Improper and/or unreasonable use of this kite may result in serious injury or death to yourself and others.
Do not use your kite near power lines, airports or streets, and keep your kite flying lines away from people and obstacles.
Always fly in an open area, observe wind and weather conditions, particularly in circumstances where you may encounter
offshore, onshore winds or strong winds. Do not attempt to use your kite on water until you are confident and comfort-
able with the use of a trainer kite on land. Spend time to become familiar with the operation of your kite and remember
that you are responsible for its operation and for safety of those around you. Never attach yourself or tie yourself perma-
nently to the kite lines. The kite is not intended for use as a flying device nor indeed is it intended as a means of flotation.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE SAFETY OF YOU AND THOSE AROUND YOU, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING SAFETY

The use of this equipment could result in risk of serious bodily injury or death to yourself or those in close proximity to
you. Slingshot strongly recommends that beginners take a lesson from a certified school. This product is designed and
manufactured for recreational use on water or snow only. Slingshot advises that you closely inspect your equipment
for signs of wear and tear before each use. If there are any signs of wear and tear, replace or repair them immediately.
Contact www.slingshotsports.com for more information. Never put yourself in a situation where breakage of any of the
components would put you or anyone else in danger. Although these kites have a huge wind range, flying this kite in over
powered condition can be dangerous and is not recommended. Slingshot strongly recommends using appropriate protective
gear including a certified helmet, flotation device, and wetsuit in cool water. Make sure you use properly designed and
manufactured parts from reputable suppliers. (Harnesses, helmets, etc) Study the current conditions including, waves,
tides, currents, and weather forecasts before going kiteboarding. Become familiar with any new kiteboarding location by
talking to the locals and asking questions. Study the weather conditions and know your launching and landing zones.

safety release will allow your kite to depower completely as it flags-out on the safety line attached to your kite leash.
