3.1 Stock keeping
Inhibernaonmode,SmartPointsarenotacvelymeasuringandreporngsensorreadings.Thismodeensuresthattheenergy
storedinthedevicebaeryisonlylileusedduringstockkeepingofthedevice.Upondelivery,thedevicesareinhibernaon
modeanddonotshowanyacvityonthedeviceitselfnorinSmartView.
IfyouplantonotacvelyusetheSmartPointinthenextmonthofdelivery,itisadvisedtokeepthedeviceinhibernaonmode.
OncetheSmartPointisacvated,itcannotbeputbacktohibernaonmodeagain.
3.2 Operational check in hibernation mode
TheoperaonalfunconingoftheSmartPointcanbecheckedinhibernaonmode.
Duringthecheck,theLEDofthedevicewillblinkandtheSmartPointtransmitsafewmessagestoSmartView,ifanacve
SmartLine network is detected.
•PlacetheSmartPointontheindicatedposionontheSmartMat.
• Hold it steady in place.
•Aer 5 seconds,theLEDshowsacvityandtheSmartPointcontactstheSmartLine
network.
•KeeptheSmartPointsteadyinplaceforanaddional15 – 25 seconds.
TheLEDasheslongfor5 mes,removetheSmartPointimmediately from the Smart-
Mat.

3.3 Activation
TheSmartPointcanbewokenfromhibernaonmodebyusingaSmartMat.
OnlyacvateSmartPointswhenaSmartLinenetworkisacveandtheSmartPointsarewithin5meterrangeofaSmartGateor
SmartRouter.Beforeacvaon,checkiftheSmartGateorSmartRouterindicateacvenetwork(seeSmartGateorSmartRouter
manual).
Informaon:TheSmartPointhasaninternalclockwhichisusedtomestampsensorreadings.Uponacvaon,theinternalclock
ofthedevicemustbesetbyaSmartLinenetwork.
•PlacetheSmartPointontheindicatedposionontheSmartMat.
•Holditsteadyforabout5 secondsunltheLEDblinks.
• Remove it immediately from the mat.
• If it is placed on the SmartMat for longer than 15 – 25 seconds,theSmartPointgoes
tothehibernaonagain.(Onlyvalidduringtheacvaonprocess.)
•Iftheprocedurehasbeencarriedoutcorrectly,theLEDblinksshortlyevery
45 seconds.
Informaon:SomemestheacvaonoftheSmartPointisnotsuccessfule.g.duetomovementoftheSmartPoint.Retrythe
acvaonprocedureaer15minutes.
KeeptheSmartPointclosetotheSmartGateorSmartRouterfor30minutes.Duringthe30minutes,otherSmartPointsmaybe
acvated.
Aer30minutes,verifytheoperaonofthedeviceinSmartView.FindtheserialIDoftheSmartPointinthelistofyourdevicesin
SmartViewandverifythatoneormorereadingsoftheSmartPointhaveappeared.
4. SmartPoint operation
Aeracvaon,theSmartPointmeasuresandreportssensorvaluesbasedonafactoryconguredinterval.Measurementpoints
arealsostoredintheSmartPointwhennoradioconneconcanbeestablished.ThismakestheSmartPointsuitabletomonitor
goods during shipment.

4.1 Mounting
TheSmartPointhasasinglemounngholeinthecenterofthecasing.Thiscanbeusedinvariouswaystoaachthedevicetothe
requiredsurface(e.g.bolt,cord,orewrap).
Warning:Avoidtheuseofmetallicormagnecalmaterialsforthemounngmaterial.
Info:TheplacementoftheSmartPointand/orthematerialssurroundingit,canhavea(negave)impactontheradiorange.Pre-
vent the use of any metallic materials around the device. Install the device with an air gap of >4 cm from walls.

4.2. Extended sleep
WhenaSmartPointcancommunicatewithaSmartGateorSmartRouter,itimmediatelytransmitsameasurementpointwhenit
becomesavailable.ThemeasurementpointwillbeavailableinSmartViewwithinserveralminutes.
IftheSmartPointisoutsidetherangeofaSmartLinenetwork,itenters“extendedsleep”mode.Inthismode,theSmartPoint
connuestomeasureasregular,however,itdoesnotaempttotransmit.
Informaon:SmartPointsarenottransmingwhenoutsideSmartLinenetworkrangeandarethereforeallowedtomonitorair-
cargobymostairlines.Please,checkwithairlinebeforeuse.
WhenaSmartPointiswithinrangeofaSmartGateorSmartRouter,thedeviceautomacallyexitsthe“extendedsleep”mode.
Thismaytakeupto30minutes.Aer30minutes,newmeasurementpointsappearinSmartView.
Tip:WhenaSmartPointisswipedoveraSmartMat,it
immediatelyexitsthe“extendedsleep”modewhenin
rangeofaSmartGateorSmartRouter.

4.3. Logging
WhentheSmartPointcannotestablishconneconwithaSmartGateorSmartRouter,measurementsarestoredinthememory
ofadevice.SmartPointshavecapacitytostore8000measurementpoints,whichequalscirca3monthsofmeasurementdata(at
standardlogginginterval).
ThestoredmeasurementpointsareautomacallytransmiedtoSmartViewwhentheSmartPointcanreestablishaconneconto
aSmartGateorSmartRouter.
Informaon:Insomecases,theSmartPointisnotabletotransmitallstoredmeasurementsamples.Ensurethatthedeviceis
placedinthenetworkrangefromaSmartGateorSmartRouter.Persistentweakradiolinksaectthedatacommunicaonsuccess
rateseverlyandtheSmartPointisnotabletosendthestoreddata.Thestoredmeasurementpointsaretransmiedatarateof4
measurement points per minute.
EnsurethataSmartPointislongenoughinrangeoftheSmartLinenetworktosendallstoredinformaon.E.g.oneweekofstored
data(atstandardlogginginterval)istransferredincirca4hoursaertheSmartPointwasbroughtintorangeofaSmartLinenet-
work.
WhenaSmartPointhasbeenmonitoringashipmentoutsidetherangeofaSmartLinenetwork,butisnowinsideanetworkagain,
thecurrentmeasurementsarevisible,whilesimultaneouslythestoredmeasurementsaretransmied.InSmartView,adatagap
maybevisibleduringthemeittakestheSmartPointtotransmitstoreddata.
EventhoughtheSmartPointneedsmetotransmitstoredmeasurements,itenablesyoutoactuponreal-mealarmswhenever
it is in range of a SmartLine network.
4.4. Operational check in active mode
ItisrecommendedtotestandinspectSmartPointsinacvemoderegularly.
• Never use SmartPoints with damaged or open enclosure.
• Never use SmartPoints with damaged external sensor.
•NeveruseSmartPointswithdamagedbaerypack.
•NeveruseaSmartPointwithdamagedlabel.
•NeveruseSmartPointswithpunkturedmembraneofhumiditysensors
AlthoughSmartPointsreportalarmstoSmartViewwhentheirbaeryislow,itisgoodpraccetoverifydevicesbeforetheyare
usedforcricalmonitoring.Useaerthedenedusefullifemeisunreliableandshouldnotbeusedforcricalmonitoring.
ThereareafewmethodstocheckiftheSmartPointisslloperaonalandhasnotrunoutofbaerypower.
1.AeraSmartPointhasbeenacvated,every45secondstheLEDwillshortlyash.
Tip:DirectsunlightorotherbrightlightsourcemaymakeitdiculttonocetheshortLEDblink.Checkthedeviceinshadowor
dimmedlightcondions.
2.WhenanacveSmartPointisswipedacrosstheSmartMat,theLEDwillashimmediately.
Informaon:FlashingoftheLEDmeansthattheSmartPointisfunconing.TheLEDdoesnotindicateiftheSmartPointiscon-
nected or not.
3.PeriodicallyreviewthestatusoftheSmartPointinSmartView.Nolowbaeryindicaonsshouldbepresentandthelast
reportedmessageshouldberecent.
WhenSmartViewindicatesthatthebaeryofaSmartPointislowand/orthedevicedoesnotshowLEDacvity,theSmartPoint
shouldnolongerbeused.
4.5. Operational check before use as monitoring device in a shipment
WhenaSmartPointisgoingtobeusedasamonitoringdeviceinashipment,itisimportanttoallowittosetitsinternalclock
correctlybeforeitleavetheSmartLinenetwork.
SwipetheSmartPointacrossaSmartMatwhilethedeviceis<5mawayfromacveSmartGateorSmartRouter.TheLEDofthe
SmartPointmustash.KeepthedeviceneartheSmartGateorSmartRouterfor5minutes.Thenitisreadytobeusedforship-
ment monitoring.
5. Calibration
Berlingeroersacalibraonservicewhichallowsthecalibraonoftheinternalsensor(s).
•Withoutcalibraon,thesensoraccuracyisasstatedintableSmartPointModels.
•Calibraonisonlyvalidduringtheperiodstatedonthecalibraoncercate.

6. Important Information
6.1. Storage and active mode conditions
•Beforeacvaon,theSmartPointmustbestoredbetween10°Cand25°Cinanon-condensingenvironment.
•Aeracvaon,acceptableoperaonaltemperatureis–40°Cto+85°C.
•DonotexposetheSmartPointtomechanicalimpact/forceexceedingthenormdenedinEN60068-2-31:2008andEN60068-2-
6:2008.
•TheSmartPointhasbeendesignedtoberesistanttomoistureanddustcondionsthatcanbeexpectedinwarehouses,during
transportaon,storageinfridges/freezersetc.Ithasnotbeendesignedforoutdooruse.Donotpuncturethemembraneofthe
relaveairhumiditysensor.
Warning:Donotfullysubmergetheproductinwater.Excessiveexposuretodirectsunlightmaycausediscoloraonoftheenclo-
sureand/orreduconofthemechanicalrobustness.Donotusehigh-pressurecleaningdirectlyontheSmartPoint.Donotuse
chemicals to clean the SmartPoint.
6.2 Liability
Themanufacturershallnotbeheldliable:
•Ifthedevicewasusedbeyondthemanufacturer’sgivenlimitaons.
• For any claims due to the improper storage and use of the device.
•Foranyproblemswiththetemperaturecontrollingand/orcoolingunit.
•Forthebadqualityofanymonitoredgoods.
•Forincorrectreadingsifthedevicewasusedbeyonditsexpirydate.
Warranty:SmartPointandSmartPointOne1yearfromdateofdelivery.Baerypackisexcludedfromwarranty.
6.3 Battery
TheSmartPointscontainanon-rechargeableLithiumbaery.Pleasepaystrictaenontothefollowingpoints:
•ThehousingoftheSmartPointmustneverbeopenednordestroyed.
•NeverexposetheSmartPointtotemperaturesabovetheallowedrange(re,oven,microwaves,etc.).
It may cause serious injuries.
• Always keep the SmartPoint out of the reach of children.
•ThebaerycomplieswithIATADGRPackagingInstrucon970Secon2andisthereforenotconsideredasdangerousgood.
ConsultIATAregulaonbeforeuseinairfreight.
•DisposeorrecycletheSmartPointinaccordancewiththeWEEE2012/19/EUguidelinesoryourlocalregulaons.
Thedevicemayalsobereturnedtothemanufacturerforproperrecycling.
