本機は正しく使用すれば事故が起きないように、安全に
は充分配慮して設計されています。しかし、間違った使
いかたをすると、火災や感電などにより死亡や大けがな
ど人身事故につながることがあり、危険です。

警告
下記の注意を守らないと、

電源コードを傷つけない
電源コードを傷つけると、火災や感電の原
因となることがあります。
･ 設置時に、製品と壁やラック、棚などの
間に、はさみ込まない。
･ 電源コードを加工したり、傷つけたりし
ない。
･ 重いものをのせたり、引っ張ったりしな
い。
･ 熱器具に近づけたり、加熱したりしない。
･ 電源コードを抜くときは、必ずプラグを
持って抜く。
万一、電源コードが傷んだら、お買い上げ
店に交換をご依頼ください。
油煙、湯気、湿気、ほこりの多い場所
には設置しない
上記のような場所や取扱説明書に記されて
いる使用条件以外の環境に設置すると、火
災や感電の原因となることがあります。
水にぬれる場所で使用しない
水ぬれすると、漏電による感電発火の原因
となることがあります。
内部に水や異物を入れない
水や異物が入ると火災や感電の原因となる
ことがあります。
万一、水や異物が入ったときは、すぐに電
源を切り、電源コードや接続コードを抜い
て、お買い上げ店にご相談ください。
内部を開けない
内部には電圧の高い部分があり、キャビ
ネットや裏蓋を開けたり改造したりすると、
火災や感電の原因となることがあります。
内部の調整や設定、点検、修理はお買い上
げ店にご依頼ください。

下記の注意を守らないと、
けがをしたり周辺の物品に損害を与える
ことがあります
ぬれた手で電源プラグをさわらない
ぬれた手で電源プラグを抜き差しすると、
感電の原因となることがあります。
指定された電源コードを使用する
指定以外の電源コードを使用すると、火災
や感電の原因となります。
電取法または電安法認可品でかつ定格
100V 50/60 Hz 3A に耐えうる 3 芯の電
源コードセットをご使用ください。
製品の上に乗らない、重いものを乗
せない
倒れたり、落ちたり、壊れたりして、けが
の原因となることがあります。
コード類は正しく配置する
電源コードや接続ケーブルは、足に引っか
けると本機の落下や転倒などによりけがの
原因となることがあります。
十分注意して接続･配置してください。
電源コードのプラグ及びコネクター
は突き当たるまで差し込む
真っ直ぐに突き当たるまで差し込まないと、
火災や感電の原因となります。
通風孔をふさがない
通風孔をふさぐと内部に熱がこもり、火災
や故障の原因となることがあります。風通
しをよくするために次の項目をお守りくだ
さい。
･ 壁から 10cm 以上離して設置する。
･ 密閉された狭い場所に押し込めない。
･ 毛足の長い敷物（じゅうたんや布団など）
の上に設置しない。
･ 布などで包まない。
･ あお向けや横倒し、逆さまにしない。
注意
不安定な場所に設置しない
ぐらついた台の上や傾いたところに設置す
ると、倒れたり落ちたりしてけがの原因と
なることがあります。また、設置・取り付
け場所の強度を充分にお確かめください。
本体内部の部品をさわらない
必要な時（ヘッドクリーニング、紙づまり
の処理など）以外に、本体内部の機構部品
をさわると、シャープエッジなどにより、
けがの原因となることがあります。
開梱・運搬時には慎重に
本機は重量があるので、本体を取り出す際
や運搬時に腰を痛めるおそれがあります。
プリント直後サーマルヘッドに触れ
ない
プリント直後は、サーマルヘッドが熱く
なっている場合があり、触れるとやけどの
原因となることがあります。
接続の際は電源を切る
電源コードや接続コードを接続するときは、
電源を切ってください。感電や故障の原因
となることがあります。
お手入れの際は、電源を切る
電源を接続したままお手入れをすると、感
電の原因となることがあります。
安全アースを接続する
安全アースを接続しないと、感電の原因と
なることがあります。
次の方法でアースを接続してください。
･ お使いになる電源コードのコンセントが
3 極の場合、そのまま使用することで安
全アースが接続されます。
･ お使いになる電源コードのコンセントが
2 極で、アース線が別になっている場合、
プラグから出ている緑色のアース線を建
物に備えられているアース端子に接続し
てください。
安全アースを取り付けることができない場
合は、お買い上げ店にご依頼ください。

使いかた
付属の ＣＤ-ＲＯＭ には UP-D72XRS の取扱説明書が記
録されています。
（日本語、英語、フランス語、ドイツ語、イタリア語、ス
ペイン語、オランダ語、スウェーデン語、ポルトガル語、
フィンランド語、デンマーク語、ギリシャ語、ノル
ウェー語）
この取扱説明書は PDF (Portable Document Format)
ファイルで作成されています。
準備
付属の CD-ROM に収納されている取扱説明書を使用する
ためには、Adobe Reader がインストールされている必
要があります。インストールされていない場合は、
Acrobat フォルダ内の、必要に応じた言語の Adobe
Reader をインストールしてください。
この CD-ROM はオーディオ用 CD プレーヤーで再生し
ないでください。大音響により耳に傷害を与えたり、音
響装置を破損する恐れがあります。

お手入れ
キャビネットのクリーニングについ
て
ご注意
キャビネットのクリーニングの際は、必ず電源を切って
電源プラグを抜いてください。
･ キャビネットの汚れがひどいときは、水または水で薄め
た中性洗剤溶液で湿らせた布を固く絞ってから、汚れを
拭き取ってください。その後乾いた布でからぶきしてく
ださい。
･ シンナーやベンジン、アルコール、化学ぞうきんなど
は、表面の仕上げをいためることがありますので、使用
しないでください。
サーマルヘッドのクリーニングにつ
いて
以下の症状が現れた場合､ヘッドクリーニングシート（付
属）およびローラークリーニングシート（付属）を使っ
てサーマルヘッドとローラーのクリーニングを行ってく
ださい。
･ プリント画に白い長手方向のスジが発生したり、引っか
ききずが発生した場合
それでも白いスジが表れる場合は、サーマルヘッドク
リーニングキット（付属）を使ってヘッドのクリーニン
グを行ってください。
･「PLEASE CLEAN」というメッセージが表示された場
合
サーマルヘッドおよびローラーのクリーニング
ヘッドクリーニングシート（付属）およびローラーク
リーニングシート（付属）を使ってサーマルヘッドと
ローラーのクリーニングを行います。
1 給排紙トレイをプリンターから取り出し、プリント
紙を取り出す。
2 ヘッドクリーニングシートを給排紙トレイに入れ、
再度給排紙トレイをプリンターに取り付ける。
ご注意
ヘッドクリーニングシートに記載されている指示に
従って給排紙トレイに入れてください。
3 MENU ボタンを押す。
4 F、fボタンを押して液晶ディスプレイに
「CLEANING」の項目を表示させる。
5 EXEC ボタンを押す。
ヘッドのクリーニングが開始されます。
ヘッドクリーニングシートが排出され、ヘッドのク
リーニングが終了します。
液晶ディスプレイは READY 表示になっています。

お手入れ
6 給排紙トレイを取り出しローラークリーニングシー
トを入れる。
ご注意
ローラークリーニングシートに記載されている指示
に従って給排紙トレイに入れてください。
7 手順 3、4、5 を繰り返してローラーのクリーニング
を行う。
8 手順 1 で取りはずしたプリント紙を元に戻す。
サーマルヘッドのクリーニング
クリーニングシートを使用してサーマルヘッドおよび
ローラーをクリーニングしても白いスジや引っかききず
などの印画不良が起こる場合は、サーマルヘッドクリー
ニングキット（付属）を使ってサーマルヘッドのクリー
ニングを行ってください。
詳しくはサーマルヘッドクリーニングキットに付属の取
扱説明書をご覧ください。
1 G、gボタンおよび EXEC ボタンを同時に押す。
サーマルヘッドの固定がはずれます。
2 電源スイッチを押して電源を切る。
3 プリンター左側面にあるメンテナンスドアのビスを
はずしてドアを開ける。
4 クリーニングカートリッジを奥まで押し込み、次に
クリーニングカートリッジの窓が全部見えるまで引
き出す。
この動作を約３回繰り返します。
5 クリーニングカートリッジを取り出し、メンテナン
スドアを閉める。
6 手順 3 ではずしたビスを元の位置に取り付ける。
ご注意
メンテナンスドアはしっかり閉め、ビスでしっかり
とめてください。しっかり閉まっていないとプリン
ト中に開いてしまい、プリントが中止される恐れが
あります。
7 再度電源スイッチを押して電源を入れる。
フィルターを掃除するには
本機の右側面と後面に通風孔があります。
液晶ディスプレイに CLEAN FAN FILTER というメッ
セージが現れたら、後面のフィルターを掃除してください。
1 ファンカバーを固定しているネジをゆるめ､ネジを左
右に移動させ、ファンカバーをはずす。フィルター
も一緒に取り出す。

メッセージ一覧
メッセージ一覧
液晶ディスプレイに表示されるメッセージ、および警告
メッセージは以下のとおりです。メッセージにしたがっ
て次に示す処置をしてください。
エラーメッセージ
異常が起こると、本機前面の ALARM ランプが点灯し、
液晶ディスプレイにメッセージが表示されます。メッ
セージに従って次に示す処置をしてください。
この装置は、情報処理装置等電波障害自主規制協議会
（ＶＣＣＩ）の基準に基づくクラス A 情報技術装置です。
この装置を家庭環境で使用すると電波妨害を引き起こす
ことがあります。この場合には使用者が適切な対策を講
ずるよう要求されることがあります。
注意
日本国内で使用する電源コードセットは、電気用品安全
法で定める基準を満足した承認品が要求されます。ソ
ニー推奨の電源コードセットをご使用ください。
メッセージ 意味／対策
CHECK PAPER AND
PUSH[EXEC]
紙づまりが起きた可能性があります。
→ つまっているか確認し、紙づまりの時
は紙を取り除いてください。確認およ
び紙の取り除きを終了したら EXEC ボ
タンを押してください。（10 ページ）
CLOSE DOOR メンテナンスドアが開いています。
→ ドアを閉めてください。（7 ページ）
MECHA TROUBLE プリンターに異常が起きました。
→ 電源を切り、その後再度電源スイッチ
を入れると操作できるようになります。
この方法で対処してもメッセージが消
えず、再度本メッセージが表示された
場合は、電源を切り、お買い上げ店に
ご連絡ください。
NO IMAGE DATA プリンターに画像データが記憶されていま
せん。
→ コンピューターから画像データを転送
してください。
REMOVE
CLEANING SHEET
プリント操作を行ったところ、クリーニン
グシートが認識されました。
→ クリーニングシートを取り除き、プリ
ント紙を入れてください。
クリーニングが必要な場合は、
CLEANING メニューを開いてクリー
ニングモードに入ってください。（6

REMOVE PAPER
AND PUSH[EXEC]
･ 紙づまりが起きました。
→ つまった紙を取り除き EXEC ボタン
を押してください。（10 ページ）
･ サーマルペーパーの裏面にプリントさ
れた可能性があります。
→ サーマルペーバーを正しく入れてく
ださい。

10 故障とお考えになる前に
その他のメッセージ
その他のメッセージが現れた場合は､ ALARM ランプは点
灯しません。PRINT ランプが点滅します。
故障とお考えになる前に
修理にお出しになる前に、もう一度点検してください。
それでも正常に動作しないときは、お買い上げ店にご相
談ください。
プリント紙がつまったら
PRINT ボタンを押した後、プリントが始まる前またはプ
リント中に紙づまりが起きると、「CHECK PAPER AND
PUSH[EXEC]」、または「REMOVE PAPER AND
PUSH[EXEC]」というエラーメッセージが現われ、プリ
ントは止まります。
排紙口、給排紙トレイ内、給排紙トレイの下の 3 箇所を
確認し、つまっている紙を取り除きます。
ご注意
次の操作中、プリンター内部の部品にさわるときは、内
部部品でけがをしないようにご注意ください。
1 EJECT TRAY ボタンを押して給排紙トレイを取り出
す。
ご注意
･ プリント済みのプリント紙（プリント画）が給排
紙トレイの上にあるときは、事前にプリント画を
取り出してください。
･ 給排紙トレイから出かかっているプリント紙が
あったらトレイに戻してください。
SET CLEANING
SHEET
サーマルヘッドまたはローラーのクリーニ
ング時、クリーニングシートが正しく給紙
トレイに入っていないので、認識されませ
んでした。
→ ヘッドクリーニングシート、または
ローラークリーニングシートの指示に
従って、正しく入れ直してください。

SET PAPER プリント紙がなくなりました。
→ プリント紙を入れてください。
SET TRAY 給排紙トレイが取り付けられていません。
→ 給排紙トレイを取り付けてください。
メッセージ 意味／対策
CLEAN FAN FILTER フィルターが汚れています。
→ ファンカバーをはずし清掃してくださ
い。（7 ページ）
HEAD IN COOLING 感熱ヘッドの温度が上昇しました。
→ メッセージが消えるまでお待ちくださ
い。連続プリント中は、ヘッドが冷え
メッセージが消えてから、プリントが
再開されます。
HEAD IN HEATING 感熱ヘッドを予熱中です。
→ メッセージが消えるまでお待ちくださ
い。ヘッドが予熱されメッセージが消
えてから、プリントが開始されます。
PLEASE CLEAN 印画枚数が 500 枚に達するごとにこの
メッセージが出ます。サーマルヘッドのク
リーニングを行ってください。
→ クリーニングを行うとメッセージは消
えます。表示が出ていてもプリントは
可能です。
PLEASE WAIT トレイを入れたとき､メンテナンスドアを
閉めたときなど、プリント再開のためにプ
リンターが初期状態に復帰するときに現れ
ます。
→ 表示が消えるまでお待ちください。
RESERVED プリンターが独占使用（リザーブ）されて
います。
→ リザーブ状態を解除したい場合には、
コンピューターより操作を行ってくだ
さい。

故障とお考えになる前に
2 つまった紙を取り除く。
排紙口にプリント紙がつまっている場合：
まっすぐ手前方向にゆっくり取り出します。
底の部分にプリント紙がある場合：
次の手順に従って取り除いてください。
1トレイガイドカバーを取り出す。
2つまった紙をまっすぐ手前方向にゆっくり取り
出す。
3トレイガイドカバーを元の位置に取り付ける。
3 プリント紙を給排紙トレイに戻し、プリンターに取
り付ける。
ご注意
･ 手順 2 で取り除いたプリント紙は使用しないでく
ださい。
･ プリント紙が正しく入っていることを確認してく
ださい。
4 EXEC ボタンを押す。
エラーメッセージが消え、READY 表示に戻ります。

Using the CD-ROM
Manual
The supplied CD-ROM includes manuals for the UP-
D72XRS (in Japanese, English, French, German,
Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Portuguese, Finnish,
Danish, Greek and Norwegian). The copies of these
manuals are created in PDF (Portable Document
Format) format.
Preparation
To read the manuals included on the supplied CD-ROM,
the Adobe Reader is required.
If the Adobe Reader is not installed on your computer,
you can copy it from the Acrobat folder on the CD-
ROM. Install the Adobe Reader for the language
corresponding to the manual you want to read on your
computer.
Caution
Do not play back this CD-ROM using an audio CD
player. Doing so may result in damage to your hearing
or to the audio equipment due to loud sounds.

The following are required to access the supplied CD-
ROM.

Reading the CD-ROM Manual
To read the manual on the CD-ROM, proceed as follows.
1 Insert the CD-ROM disc in your CD-ROM drive.
The manuals are saved in the Instructions For Use
folder.
2 Select and click the manual that you want to read.
Note
If you lose the CD-ROM disc or you cannot read it for
some reason, you can purchase a new CD-ROM disc.

Cleaning
Cleaning the cabinet
Clean the cabinet, panel and controls with a soft dry
cloth, or a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild
detergent solution. Do not use any type of solvent, such
as alcohol or benzine, which may damage the finish.
Note
Be sure to turn off the power of the printer before
cleaning it.
Cleaning the thermal head
Clean the thermal head and roller in the following
situations using the head cleaning sheet (supplied) and
roller cleaning sheet (supplied):
• When a vertical white stripe or a scratch appears on
the printout
If white stripes still appear even though you have
cleaned the thermal head and roller with the cleaning
sheets, clean the thermal head using the thermal head
cleaning kit (supplied).
• When the message “PLEASE CLEAN” appears
To clean the thermal head and roller
Proceed as follows to clean the thermal head and roller
with the head cleaning sheet and roller cleaning sheet
(supplied).
1 Remove the paper tray from the printer, and then
remove the paper from the paper tray.
2 Place the head cleaning sheet in the paper tray, and
insert the paper tray in the printer.
Note
Place the head cleaning sheet in the paper tray
according to the instruction described on the head
cleaning sheet.
3 Press the MENU button.
4 Display the CLEANING item on the printer
window display by pressing the For fbutton.
5 Press the EXEC button.
Cleaning is started. When cleaning has been
completed, the head cleaning sheet is ejected.
The printer returns to standby status.

6 Remove the paper tray again. Remove the head
cleaning sheet and place the roller cleaning sheet in
the paper tray, and re-insert the paper tray.
Note
Place the roller cleaning sheet in the paper tray,
following the instruction described on the roller
cleaning sheet.
7 Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5 to clean the roller.
8 Remove the roller cleaning sheet.Re-loadthe paper
removed in step 1 and re-insert the paper tray.
To clean the thermal head
If the printout quality deteriorates, for example, when
white strips still appear on the printouts, even after you
have cleaned the thermal head and roller using the
cleaningsheets, youshould clean the thermal headusing
the thermal head cleaning kit (supplied).
For detailed information on how to use the thermal head
cleaning kit, refer to the operating instructions supplied
with the thermal head cleaning kit.
1 Press the G, g, and EXEC buttons simultaneously.
The thermal head is released.
2 Press the POWER switch to turn off the printer.
3 Remove the screw from the maintenance door
located on the left side panel and open the door.
4 Insert the cleaning tip holder until it stops, then pull
it toward you until the open window on the holder
fully appears.
Insert and pull out the holder about three times.
5 Remove the cleaning tip holder and close the
maintenance door.
6 Put the screw removed in step 3 back on the
maintenance door.
Note
Be sure to close the maintenance door and fasten it
with the screw. If the maintenance door is not
locked completely, the maintenance door may
open, and the printer stops the job while printing.
7 Press the POWER switch to turn on the printer
again.
Cleaning the filter
Ventilation holes are provided on the right side and the
rear of the printer to prevent the unit from overheating.
When the message “CLEAN FAN FILTER” appears on
the printer window display, the filter covering the
ventilation holes on the rear of the unit has become dirty.
To clean the filter, proceed as follows.

1 Loosen the screws which secure the fan cover, and
move the loosened screws toward the left and right
respectively. Then remove the fan cover with the
filter.
2 Clean the fan using a vacuum cleaner or the like.
Notes
• Be careful that the filter does not get caught in the
vacuum cleaner.
• Do not rub the net of the filter roughly.
3 Reset the filter and the fan cover on the side panel
as they were, using the screws loosened in step 1.

Messages
There are two kinds of messages; error messages and
warning messages. This section lists these messages
together with their possible causes and remedies. Note
the messages and act accordingly.
Besides error and warning messages, other messages
stating the operating status of the printer are also
displayed. Those messages are not described here.
Error Messages
If a problem occurs, the ALARM indicator lights and an
error message stating the problem appears on the printer
window display. Note the message and perform
whatever action is necessary to solve the problem.
Error messages Possible causes and remedies
CHECK PAPER AND
PUSH [EXEC] The paper may be jammed. tRemove jammed paper from the
printer, if there is any. Ensure that
no paper has jammed, then press
the EXEC button (page 9).
CLOSE DOOR The maintenance door is open.
tClose the maintenance door
(page 6).
MECHA TROUBLE Mechanical trouble has occurred in the
printer.
tTurn off the power once and then
turn it on. If the message still
remains on the printer window
display, turn off the power
immediately and contact your Sony
dealer.
NO IMAGE DATA No image data is stored in the printer
memory.
tTransfer the image data from your
computer.
REMOVE
CLEANING SHEET When printing, the cleaning sheet was recognized.
tRemove the cleaning sheet, and
then load the paper. To clean the
thermal head or roller, open the
CLEANING menu so that the
printer enters the cleaning mode
(page 5).
REMOVE PAPER
AND PUSH [EXEC] • The paper has jammed. tRemove jammed paper from the
printer and press the EXEC
button (page 9).
• The image transferred may be
printed on the wrong side of the
paper.

Other Messages
When the following message appears, the ALARM
indicator does not light. The PRINT indicator blinks.
Troubleshooting
If Damage is Suspected
If a problem appears, check the following trouble
shooting guide first and perform whatever action is
necessary to solve the problem. If the problem persists,
turn off the printer and consult your Sony dealer.
If the Paper Jams
If the paper jams, printing stops and an error message
stating “CHECK PAPER AND PUSH [EXEC]” or
“REMOVE PAPER AND PUSH [EXEC]” appears on
the printer window display. Follow the steps below to
remove the jammed paper.
Note
Be careful not to hurt you when you touch the inside of
the printer, while removing the paper jammed inside the
printer.
1 Press the EJECT TRAY button to remove the paper
tray.
SET CLEANING
SHEET When cleaning the thermal head or roller, the cleaning sheet was not
recognized because it was not loaded
correctly.
tReload the cleaning sheet correctly
(page 5).
SET PAPER The paper has been used up.
tLoad the paper into the paper tray.
SET TRAY The paper tray is not installed.
tInstall the paper tray.
Error messages Possible causes and remedies
CLEAN FAN FILTER The filter has become dirty.
tRemove the fan cover on the side
panel of the printer and then
remove the filter. Clean the filter
(page 6).
HEAD IN COOLING The thermal head has overheated.
tLeave the printer until the head
cools down and this message
disappears.
HEAD IN HEATING The thermal head is warming up.
tLeave the printer until the head has
warmed up and this message
disappears.
PLEASE CLEAN This message appears whenever the
number of sheets printed reaches 500
sheets.
tClean the thermal head. When you
complete the cleaning of the
thermal head, this message appears.
You can continue printing even if
this message is being displayed
(page 5).
PLEASE WAIT This message appears when the printer
returns to the initial status so that it can
restart to print after you insert the
paper tray into the printer or you close
the maintenance door.
tWait until this message disappears.
RESERVED The printer is reserved.
tCancel the reservation of the printer
from your computer.

Notes
• If any printouts have been ejected on the paper
tray, removethem first before removing the paper
tray.
• If there is a piece of paper that has been sent out
halfway from the paper tray, slowly pull it back
into the paper tray.
2 Remove the jammed paper.
If you find a piece of paper jammed around
the paper outlet:
Pull the jammed paper toward you slowly.
If you find a piece of paper jammed near the
bottom:
To pull out the jammed paper, proceed as follows.
1Remove the tray guide cover.
2Pull out the jammed paper toward you slowly.
3Re-insert the tray guide cover as it was.
3 Re-insert the paper tray into the printer.
Notes
• Discard the sheets removed in step 2.
• Ensure that the paper is properly loaded.
4 Press the EXEC button.
The error message disappears and the printer
returns to the standby status.
