@The auto-reverse function changes the
tape direction automatically.
@ Automatic Music Sensor (AMS) function
allows either automatic playback from the
beginning of the selection being played or
skipping to the beginning of the next
selection.
@ The Dolby*NR (noise reduction) system
(XR-550R/551 R/552R only).
*"Dotby” and the double-D symbol are trade
marks of Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corpora-
tion. Noise reduction system manufactured
under license from Dolby Laboratories Licens-

@ When the ignition key is turned off, the
head returns to its original position to
avoid tape damage (XA-550R/551R/552R
only).
@The quartz-locked . digital synthesizer
system permits easy and accurate tuning.
@ During FM reception, the built-in INS (Im-
pulse Noise Suppressor) circuit elimi-
nates strong pulse noise. The built-in hi-
cut, hi-blend and soft muting circuits
eliminate the noise in FM reception caus-
ed by signal fading and multipath distor-
tion.
@ Traffic information can be received (XR-
532R/552R only).
@ The powerful power amplifier (25 W + 25 W)
is incorporated.
®@ Five frequency bands for precise tonal
control with a gain/cut range of +10 dB.
e Surround switch is equipped to obtain
natural and rich reproduced sound (XR-
550R/551R/552R only).
@ For playback with a 4-speaker system, the
fader control is furnished.
@ The nameplate indicating operating volt-
age, etc., is located on the bottom exterior.
@ If your car was parked in direct sunlight
and there has been a considerable rise in
temperature Inside the car, allow the unit
to cool off before operating.
@ if no power is being supptied to the unit,
check the connections first. If everything
is in order, check the fuse. See page 18.
@ If no sounds come from the speaker ona
2-speaker system, Set the fader control to
the center position.

[1] FADER control
When the unit is used in a 4-speaker
system, turn counterclockwise to de-
crease the volume of the speakers con-
nected to this unit.
Set to the center position when the unit
is used in a 2-speaker system.
[2] VOL (volume) / PUSH RADIO / PULL BAIL
(balance) control
Turn clockwise for more volume.
‘Press to turn on the radio.
Pull out and turn to adjust the balance of
the right and left channels.
[3] & EJECT (eject) button
Depress to stop tape transport and to
take out the cassette.

Frequency scanning—in manual tuning
Each time the MANUAL button is pressed,
the tuning frequency will be increased or
decreased by the following intervals.
XR-5S30R/532R/S550R/552R
=M: 50 kHz (in European countries)
100 kHz (in other countries)
AM: 9 kHz (in European countries)
9 or 10 KHz*, selectable (in other coun-
tries)
* The frequency can be selected with the switch on
the bottom. Before setting, turn off the car ignition
key and make sure that nothing is displayed on the
display window.

LW channel switch
The frequencies of the LW broadcasting will
be changed in the future.
The unit has an LW channel switch on the
bottom so that the LW station scanning can
be changed as follows.
Before setting, turn off the car ignition key
and make sure that nothing is displayed on
the display window.

Tune In the desired station
by the automatic or manual
tuning.
You can preset an FM and an AM stations
(XR-530R/532R/550R/552R), or an FM, an MW
and an LW stations (XR-531R/551R) on each
preset button.
Notes .
@ The MEM indicator disappears after five-
second flickering. When the MEM in-
dicator disappears, memory circuit does
not function. In this case, press the M but-
ton again.
@ The memory cannot be erased unless a
new frequency of the same band is preset
on the same preset button.

2 Select the FM band.

@An alarm sounds and the SK indicator
disappears if the tuned-in station does not
broadcast the information or if the signal
of the station becomes weak. Press the
SEEK key to tune in an other station
which broadcasts traffic information.
@ The volume level of the information can be
adjusted with the volume control on the
top of the unit.
@ To listen to the tape or the radio program
during traffic information reception, press
the SDK button again. The SDK indicator
will disappear.
