Getting started!
Charge the rechargeablebattery before using. Even if the rechargeable
battery is not charged, you can usethe recorder aslong asthe AC
power adaptor is connected.

Insert one LR6 (size AA) alkaline dry battery (not supplied) instead of the rechargeable
battery.

period of time, disconnectthe AC power

“LOW BATT” in thedisplay, chargethe
rechargeablebattery.You may beableto
operatetherecorder for a while after “LOW
BATT” hasappeared.However,if you operate
therecorderuntil therechargeablebattery is
completely discharged, you may not beableto
rechargeit againby placing therecorder on
thebattery charging stand.If this happens,
removethe battery from the recorderonce,
thenreinsertit beforeplacing therecorderon
thebattery charging stand.
l Pleasenotethe following points when
charging thebattery:
-If you press n /CHG immediately after

againto stop the charging operation since

Recording an MD right away!
(Synchro-recording)
This section explains the basic procedure for making digital
recordings using an optical cable connected to a CD player, Digital
TV or other digital equipment. (For further information, see“System
limitations” (page 63)) During synchro-recording, the recorder starts
and stopsrecording in sync with the sound source.Track marks are
addedwherever they appearin the sound source.It is recommended to
usethe AC power adaptor when recording.
To record from ananalog sourcesuchasacassettedeck or aradio -+ “Recording in analog
(Analog Recording)” (page27).
To record using group mode ---, “Recording tracks using the group function (Group Mode
Recording)” (page 29).
@ PressOPENto openthe lid. @ insert an MDwith the label side facing
front, andpressthe lid downto close.
Makesureto

To cancel synchro-recording
PressItr( or W repeatedlyuntil “SYNC OFF” flashesin thedisplay in step0, andthenpress
ENTER.
Note
If you record on a previously recorded disc, the recorder is factory set to overwrite the
entire contents of the disc. If you want the recording to start after the existing contents,
do the procedure “Recording without overwriting existing material” (page 31) before
doing step 3, “Record an MD.” (page 19).
