Congratulations on your purchase of the Sony VAIO®computer! Your
new, high-performance, multimedia computer combines state-of-the-art
computer functionality with the latest audio/video and information
technology convergence features.

i.LINK name and logo identify a high-speed communication interface,

Recovery CDs

shipped with your computer if they become corrupted or are erased. SRCDs
can only be used to restore the hard disk of the Sony computer you
purchased.

Setting Up Your Computer
This section illustrates how to set up and install your computer and peripheral
devices.
Attach the stand to the system unit
1Place the system unit upside down, with the front of the system facing
towards you.
2Insert the stand pegs into the ventilation holes of the system. Place the wider
end of the stand at the rear of the unit as shown below.
3Lock the stand onto the system unit by pressing down gently and pulling
forward slightly. The stand clicks into place.

✍The stand keeps the system cool by allowing air to flow under it. It is important to
place the system unit in an an upright position using the stand correctly, to avoid
overheating of the system unit.

Connecting the Sony Pen Tablet display
1Press the lock buttons on both sides of the LCD connector and plug the LCD
cable into the LCD port on the system.
2Release the plug when it clicks into place.

✍There are two holes in the base of the LCD display (on the right side, and left side) for
routing the LCD cable to the system. Install your equipment so that you can easily
reach the power outlet in the event of an emergency.

Connecting the modem cable
1Unplug your phone from the wall jack and plug it into the TELEPHONE
jack on the computer.
2Plug the modem cable (supplied) into the LINE jack on the computer, and
then plug the other end into the wall jack.
Warning: Your computer has a protective sticker next to the Ethernet port located
on the rear panel. Connect only 10Base-T and 100Base-TX cables to the Ethernet port.
Using other cables or a telephone cable may result in an electric current overload and
can cause a malfunction, excessive heat or fire in the port. For help on connecting to a
network, see your network administrator.
