Notes
on
using
the
camera
IInternal memory and "Memory
Stick Duo" back up
Do not turn
off
the camera, remove the battery
pack,
or
remove the "Memory Stick Duo" while
the access lamp
is
lit. Otherwise, the internal
memory data
or
"Memory Stick Duo" may be
damaged. Be sure to make abackup copy to
protect your data.
INotes
on
recording/playback
•Before you start recording, make atrial
recording to make sure that the camera
is
working correctly.
•The camera is neither dust-proof, nor splash-
proof, nor water-proof. Read "Precautions"
(page 41) before operating the camera.
• Avoid exposing the camera to water.
If
water
enters inside the camera, amalfunction may
occur. In some cases, the camera cannot be
repaired.
•Do not aim the camera at the
SI-lO
or
other bright
light. It may cause the malfunction
of
the
camera.
•Do not use the camera near alocation that
generates strong radio waves
or
emits radiation.
Otherwise, the camera may not properly record
or play back images.
•Using the camera
in
sandy
or
dusty locations
may cause malfunctions.
•If moisture condensation occurs, remove it
before using the camera (page 41).
•Do not shake or strike the camera. It may cause
amalfunction and you may not be able to record
images. Furthermore, the recording media may
become unusable or image data may be
damaged.
•Clean the flash surface before use. The heat
of
flash emission may cause dirt on the flash
surface to become discolored
or
to stick to the
flash surface, resulting
in
insufficient light
emission.

the LCD screen, the
LCD finder and lens
•The LCD screen and the LCD finder are
manufactured using extremely high-precision
technology so over 99.99%
of
the pixels are
operational for effective use. However, some
tiny black and/or bright dots (white, red, blue or
green) may appear on the LCD screen or the
LCD finder. These dots are anormal result
of
the manufacturing process, and do not affect the
recording.
•When the battery level becomes low, the lens
might stop moving. Insert acharged battery
pack and turn on the camera again.
•Do not hold the camera by taking hold
of
the
LCD screen.

When the CHARGE lamp turns off, charging is finished (Normal charge).

you continue charging the battery pack for about one more hour (Full charge), the charge will last
slightly longer.

•The table above shows the time required to charge afully depleted battery pack at atemperature

Charging may take longer depending on conditions
of
use and circumstances.

not lit, the battery charger is not disconnected from the AC power source
(mains) as long as it is connected to the wall outlet (wall socket).

some trouble occurs while using the
battery charger, immediately shut

the dark
The Night Shot function lets you shoot subjects in the dark places without using the flash.
Set NIGHTSHOT switch to ON.
ITo shoot using the finder
With the FINDERfLCD button, you can choose to shoot either using the finder or the LCD
screen. When you use the finder, the image does not appear on the LCD screen. Adjust the
finder adjustment dial
to
your eyesight so that the image appears clearly within the finder, then
shoot the image.

Smile
Shutter
mode
When the camera detects asmile, the shutter is released automatically.
oSelect ©(Smile Shutter) mode from the mode dial.
ePoint the camera at the subject and press the shutter button halfway down
to focus on the subject.
ePress the shutter button all the way down to set Smile Detection mode.
The Smile Shutter enters standby.

This indicates
the
current smile level.

Each time the smile level reaches the set Smile Detection Sensitivity (indicated by
....
), the
camera automatically operates the shutter and records up to six images. After recording the
image, the Smile Shutter lamp lights.
oPress the shutter button all the way down again to exit the Smile Shutter
mode.
•When the Smile Shutter is
in
standby, the Record lamp (Orange) flashes.
•Shooting using the Smile Shutter ends automatically when either the "Memory Stick Duo"
or
internal
memory becomes full or when six images have been recorded.
•You can select the subject that has priority for smile detection with [Smile Detection] (page 29).
•If asmile is not detected, set the [Smile Detection Sensitivity] (page 29).
•You can have the camera shoot the image automatically when any person displayed in the smile detection
frame (Orange) smiles after pressing the shutter button all the way down.
•The image may not be in focus ifthe distance between the camera and the subject is changed after pressing
the shutter button all the way down. The suitable exposure may not be obtained
if
the surrounding
brightness changes.
•Faces may not be detected correctly when:
-It is too dark or too bright.
-Faces are partially hidden by sunglasses, masks, hats, etc.
-The subjects are not facing the camera.
•Smiles may not be detected correctly depending on the conditions.
•You cannot use the Digital Zoom function.
•You cannot change the zoom ratio when the Smile Shutter is in standby.
