WARNING
1. If the unit with contacts closed fails to trip when the TEST button
is pressed (Green light still appears), the device is NOT operating
properlyandshouldbereturntothepointofpurchaseforreplacement
(SEE WARRANTY INFORMATION)
2. If the product tests properly without a load applied,
but trips each time the RV load is applied, a current
leakage exists and should be repaired or replaced as
soon as possible (SEE WARRANTY INFORMATION)
DO NOT BYPASS THE SURGE GUARD IF THIS CONDITION
OCCURS. A REAL SHOCK HAZARD MAY EXIST.
IMPORTANT NOTE
The Surge Guard* Model 44750 will provide protection even if there is
a break in the ground wire in the supply power circuit or the internal
circuit in the RV.
CAUTION
1. Do not connect any electrical cord longer than 250 feet to the
Surge Guard* device to avoid the possibility of nuisance tripping.
2. This device is to be used on electrical distribution systems
120V/30A (RV30) 60Hz only.
3. Ground fault circuit interrupters do not protect against electrical
shock resulting from contact with both line and neutral wires of the
electrical circuit.
4. The Surge Guard* Model 44750 is designed as a protective
device, do not use as an "on and off" switch.
TROUBLESHOOTING
MODEL 44750
RV's, new and old, can have loose, faulty or even incorrect wiring
which could be potentially dangerous. In the event there is a leakage
of current caused by one or more of the above conditions, the Surge
Guard* Model 44750 will cut the flow of electricity. Should this happen,
follow the procedures below to isolate the cause; however, SouthwireTM
recommends that all electrical repairs be done by a certified electrician.
1. Unplug the RV from the Surge Guard* device and push the
RESET button. If the unit trips immediately after, the problem is
in the Surge Guard* unit and it should be returned for repair or
replacement. (SEE WARRANTY INFORMATION). However, if the
Surge Guard* unit holds the set, continue to Step 2.
2. Turn off all the RV circuit breakers and plug the RV power cord into
the Surge Guard* device. If the unit trips, the problem is in the
cord and/or the connection supplying the RV. However, if the unit
does not trip, continue to Step 3.
3. Turn on each circuit breaker one at a time until the Surge Guard*
device trips. You have now isolated a circuit with leakage.
4. Unplug all appliances connected to the bad circuit and reset the
circuit breaker and the Surge Guard* device. If the unit trips, then
the problem is in the RV wiring. Should the Surge Guard* device
not trip, see Step 5.
5. Plug in each appliance until the Surge Guard* device trips. The
appliance that causes the trip has a current leakage and should
be repaired or replaced.
WARNING
Some RV power pedestal receptacles, regardless of amperage, can
cause discoloration, charring, and even melting of the male plug
connected to it. This condition is created by worn or loose receptacle
connections resulting in unsatisfactory tension or gripping force applied
to the current-carrying blades on the male plug.
To reduce the risk of plug damage, keep the male plug blades on
the Surge Guard* device and RV power cord clean and tarnish-free.
Visually inspect in and around the pedestal receptacle for evidence of
charring prior to making connection. If the receptacle shows evidence
of charring, we recommend that you do not make electrical connection.
