TYPICAL APPLICATION OF THE MODSCM08 MODULATOR
INTENDED USE AND FEATURES OF THE MODULATOR
MOD-SCM08 is a mono, double side band (DSB) TV modulator designed to operate with A/V
household devices – video recorders, DVD players, satellite receivers, CCTV camera, etc. The TV
modulator converts low frequency signal (Audio and Video) from A/V devices into high-frequency
signal in TV channel range. Modulated signal may be transmitted for long distances thorough
a coaxial cable, connected to the antenna input or split into a few TV sets with a splitter. The
modulator also makes it possible to sum its high-frequency signal and other HF signals (eg from a
TV antenna). Signal summing eected in the RF input. MOD-SCM08 may operate as stand-alone
device or in SCM08 mini headend station. In the standalone conguration modulator may be
supplied locally from +12V/250 mA external power supply. In the other case, the modulator uses
the SCM08 power supply. The power is supplied through the DC IN port or the RF output using a
coaxial cable and a power inserter. Then, the power is also supplied to the DC port from which a
CCTV can also be supplied.
MOD-SCM08 can operate in the frequency range from channel S3 to ch69 (I South Africa standard)
or from channel S1 to ch69 (B/G standard). It is possible to enable the TEST signal which facilitates
programming of the selected TV signal in a TV set. Modulator programming involves putting the
keys of 10-segment switch in required position. Audio and Video inputs and RF output have the
gain control of respectively, input and output signal. The POWER LED signals the modulator status:
•continuouslylit–correctoperatingparameters
•fastashing-incorrectoperatingparameters
•slowashing–testsignalon

SETTING THE MODULATOR PARAMETERS AND PROGRAMMING THE OUTPUT CHANNEL
10-segment switch is used to set the following modulator parameters.
1. BG/ I – set modulator operation standard (PAL I – South Africa)
2. CH/S – set channel type “S”– special channels: S1-S41, CH – channels: ch4-ch12; ch21-ch69
3. TEST – TEST signal on/o
4. +40 – switch for programming the received channel
5. +20 – switch for programming the received channel
6. +10 – switch for programming the received channel
7. +8 – switch for programming the received channel
8. +4 – switch for programming the received channel
9. +2 – switch for programming the received channel
10. +1 – switch for programming the received channel
