- Before moving the machine from one place to another;
- Before storing the machine;
- Before starting to clean the machine or returning the
front guard after its actuation;
- Before inspecting, maintenance or repair of the
machine;
Check the cable and extension condition
frequently. If either of them is damaged,
immediately pull the plug out of the
power socket;
In case the supply cord is damaged, it must be
replaced with a special cord or assembly, available
from the manufacturer or its service agent, in order to
avoid hazard due to the replacement.
Do not attempt to repair the machine without being
authorised to perform servicing;
When transporting or during storage of the machine,
place the sheath onto the chain;

OPERATING DIRECTIONS
CONNECTING TO THE MAINS
Before connecting the supply cable to the mains, make
sure power supply voltage corresponds to the value
indicated on the rating plate.
Assembly of guide nd ch in
Make sure the supply cable is disconnected from
the mains;
The use of strong gloves is recommended while
handling the chain;
Place the machine on the motor casing (Fig. A) and
make sure it is stable;
Using the service spanner delivered with the saw,
remove both screws 6 and the chain cover 4;
Place guide 1 vertically with its front pointing upwards
(Fig. B) and assemble the chain 2, starting from the front
of the guide;
Assemble the guide and chain to the machine, pla-
cing the chain free end around the drive sprocket (Fig. C);
Place the guide horizontally on its flat front end. Make
sure the tensioning pin is inserted properly into the guide
opening. Ensure that the teeth are pointing in the same
direction as the direction of the chain, embossed on
the casing.
Tension the chain by turning the screw 5 clockwise.
The chain is properly tensioned if can be driven by hand
and yet sufficiently tightened to the guide (Fig. D);
Place back the chain cover.
It is recommended to lubricate periodically the
sprocket nose with an appropriate lubricator.
ATTENTION: ew chains tend to sag during operation,
so regular re-tensioning is required.
An over-tensioned chain will cause rapid guide and
chain wear;
A sagging chain might cause dropping the chain
out of the guide groove and damage of the machine.
It is recommended to check the tensioning each 15
min of operation. Checking the tensioning is performed
by applying 3-5 pressure on the chain from the upper
side of the guide. The chain should not separate from
the guide more than 5 mm. It is oblig tory to check
the tensioning with the plug out of the socket.
Repl cing the ch in
To replace a worn out chain, perform the following
operations:
Ensure the supply cable is not plugged in the socket.
By rotating the tensioning screw in anti-clockwise
direction, loosen the chain.
Using the service spanner delivered with the saw,
remove both screws 6 and the chain cover 4;
Carefully remove the chain and the guide and then
dismount the chain from the guide.
Clean the guide groove from debris and check if it is
not worn out. If the groove is worn out, replace the guide.
The guide can be purchased from SPARKY authorised
service centre or a specialised shop.
Clean the machine and using a soft dry cloth wipe
the place for fixing the guide to the machine.
Perform steps 0.5 to o.8 from paragraph “Assem-
bly of guide and chain”.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS ENGLISH
We recommend to use a chain purchased from SPARKY
authorised service centre or a specialised shop.
Chain specifications:
Model 91 VG (OREGO ) or similar
Pitch 3/8"
Gauge 0,05” (1,3 mm)
umber of drive links 56
Switching on:
Remove the chain sheath;
Prior to switching the machine on, ensure there are
not any objects in contact with the chain and nothing
could get into contact with it;
Grip the saw firmly by the front and rear handles;
Push the safety button 11 down and then pull to the
end the O /OFF trigger 10 (Fig. E);
ATTENTION: During operation hold the trigger 10 FIRMLY!
Switching off:
During normal operation stopping the machine is
achieved by the O /OFF trigger.
Release the O /OFF trigger to stop the chain and
rotor;
After the chainsaw has been switched off, the motor
is still rotating for about 5-8 sec. Re-starting is possible
before the motor has come to a rest, but IT IS NOT
RECOMMENDED!
ATTENTION: Always hold the machine with both hands
while the chain is still moving.
Autom tic ch in lubric tion:
Remove the reservoir cap 8 (Fig. F);
Fill the reservoir with the recommended oil for
chainsaws (SAE 30);
Avoid pollution of oil while filling the reservoir;
Place the cap back;
Wipe the spilled oil (if any) with a cloth;
Chain lubrication is carried out automatically during
operation;
Check the oil level periodically during operation
through the oil-level indicator 7 and add oil if necessary;
ever operate the chainsaw without oil to prevent
rapid chain wear.
The automatic chain lubrication is with adjustable
flow. Adjusting is performed by rotating in the
necessary direction the pump button, positioned
on the bottom side of the machine (see fig. on the left).
It s recommended that the pump flow is maximum
when cutting dry wood, and minimum - for raw wood.
Auto-stop ch in br ke:
Chain stop is carried out by quick-stop automatic
system actuated in the cases of severe rebound or if
the operator looses his balance.
Stopping the chain by actuation of the front guard:
- The chain brake is actuated when the front guard is
pushed either by the operator’s hand or in the case of
severe rebound (the result of the inertia activated front
guard);
- Return the front guard in its initial position with the O /
OFF trigger released, so the machine could be re-
started.
ATTENTION:
Rebound: Sudden upward/backward motion of the
guide.
Rebound may occur upon involuntary contact of the
front guide quarter with an object.
Avoid using the front guard to stop the machine.
Testing the ctu tion of the uto-stop ch in br ke
We recommend to perform this test lw ys before
st rting oper tion with the m chine.
Unplug the cable from the socket and move the
guard forward;
Press the O /OFF trigger. It should move unrestricted.
With the trigger switch in OFF position and the front guard
pushed forward, plug the cable into the socket. Press
the trigger switch 10 - the machine should not operate.
If the saw starts operation - the auto-stop chain brake
does not function properly and must be repaired
immediately in SPARKY authorised service centre or by
an authorised agent.
Oper ting the ch in s w with f ulty uto-stop
ch in br ke is forbidden.
Pr ctic l dvice
We strongly recommend that first-time users train sawing
under the supervision of skilled operators.Take
precautions against unintentional touching the ground,
wire fence or bushes with the chain.
When operating on sloping terrain always stand from
the higher side.
Logging (Fig. G):
Place the log on a saw horse or another appropriate
device, to provide the possibility for turning the log and
to fasten steadily the log to the saw horse if achievable.
In case the log is placed on the ground, take
precautions the chain cannot contact the ground;
It is obligatory that the operator and the saw horse
(cradle) are in a stable position;
Always start a cut with the chain running;
First cut down the log one third of the diameter, then
turn the log over and cut again to meet the first cut;
Felling trees (Fig. H)
Forecast the direction of falling (consider the tree
slope and the distribution of branches); for an upright
tree (max. 5% slope) it is possible to choose any
direction. It is obligatory to consider the direction and
force of the wind;
Pre-plan a safe exit from falling trees zone (marked
with the arrow on fig. M);
Do not plan an exit through the dangerous areas (1) The
safe zones are marked with 2.
From the side, chosen for the tree to fall, make a
horizontal cut (1) to 1/3 of the tree diameter, then cut
down diagonally from above (2) to make a notch of
about 45°. Remove the notch;
Make another horizontal cut (3) on the opposite side
3-5 cm higher the first cut. With the chainsaw teeth
leaned against the trunk, cut in a circular motion,
causing the guide to pivot;

12 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
ENGLISH
Make sure the thickness of the layer between cuts
(1) and (3) is sufficient, to prevent the tree falling in the
wrong direction;
During performing the last cut, with decreasing the
thickness, the tree starts falling. Remove the chainsaw,
release the O /OFF trigger to stop the chain and retire,
using the safe exit;
In case the tree tends to move before falling or if it is
evident that the tree will fall in another direction,
discontinue cutting before the remaining layer is
destroyed. Insert chocks in the last cut until it opens, to
ensure trunk falling in the desired direction.
Branch lopping (Fig. I)
Ensure you are in a stable position;
Do not cut above shoulder height;
Do not hold the machine in stretched-out arms and
do not attempt to over-reach;
Do not operate the chainsaw being in unstable
position (while in a tree or on a ladder);
To prevent jamming the chain:
- Make a cut approximately 15 cm from the trunk, in
the base of the branch, approximately at 1/3 of the
branch diameter (1);
- About 5 cm behind the first cut, cut the branch until it
falls (2);
- Cut the remainder of the branch as close as possible
to the trunk (3);
When lopping branches, pay attention to outer loads,
do not cut saplings, small bushes, twigs or leaves.
Recommend tions:
Hook the extension cable by the clamp, provided
for the purpose on the rear handle (Fig. J);
Sawing is best performed when applying moderate
pressure on the handles. Excessive pressure would
decrease the speed and overload the machine.
The chain saw is equipped with a safety pin clutch
against overloading the machine or jamming the chain.
Upon its actuation the safety pin is destroyed. Resuming
operation is possible only after replacing the destroyed
pin with a new one.
Use genuine sp re p rts only!
The chain saw is delivered with 2 new pins. ew pins
can be purchased from SPARKY authorised service
centre or a specialised shop.
MAINTENANCE:
1. Mech nic l m inten nce:
ATTENTION: Unplug the machine from the mains prior
to any maintenance procedures;
Check whether the chain is well lubricated and
tensioned;
After each 3 hours operation dismount the guide and
chain. Clean the guide groove and check if the
lubrication apertures are not blocked (Fig. C);
Periodically change the guide fixing to the machine
(turn the guide through 180o to ensure even wearing);
Re-assemble the drive sprocket after it has been
completely cleaned;
Ensure the ventilation slots are clean.
To replace a destroyed pin - take away the chain
cover screws 6 and remove the cover 4. Dismount the
guide and chain following the steps from the correspon-
ding paragraph. Using a wide screwdriver or another
appropriate tool dismount the spring washer and the
chain drive sprocket.
Replace the destroyed pin with a new one and
assemble the parts in reverse order.
Sharpening the chain (Fig. K):
The chain must be sharpened regularly in order to
achieve best performance;
Use a round file with 4 mm diameter to sharpen the
chain teeth to the original angle;
All cutting edges must be the same length (start
sharpening from the most worn out tooth);
Always sharpen the cutting edges from the same side
and in the same direction - from internal to external
side of the teeth (to avoid injuring yourself, tension the
chain before sharpening);
Sharpen all cutting edges on the back side;
Every three sharpening procedures, check the height
of the depth limiters (0,5 mm). Adjust the height using a
flat file. Round the front cutting edge to maintain the
initial shape of the depth limiter.
Storage:
Drain the reservoir prior to storage.
Clean the machine using a dry cloth. Do not apply
solvents;
Store the machine in a dry place out of the reach of
children;
For extended storage, dismantle the guide and chain
and store them soaked in oil. Drain the reservoir.
2. Electric l m inten nce
The machine does not require any special mainte-
nance.
The ventilation slots on the motor casing must be
cleaned periodically.
Inspection of the carbon brushes can be performed
visually.
Replacing the carbon brushes (Fig. L):
Unwind both brush retaining screws 13 and remove
the cover;
Unwind both screws 14, fixing the wires to the brushes
and replace both of the worn out brushes with new ones.
ew brushes can be purchased from authorised centres
for servicing SPARKY power tools.
