Product description STULZ UltraSonic -System for duct humidication ENS 14 A - 18 A-
The STULZ UltraSonic ENS model series is designed for duct humidication using ultrasonic atomiza-
tion. Here, a transducer installed in a water bath produces a cold mist, which is expelled out of the unit
into the duct due to the air ow within the duct.

CAUTION
Property damage due to an incorrect water supply.
The ultrasonic humidier is operated with demineralized drinking water, to ensure that the transducers
retain their function throughout the unit's service life. Furthermore, if the mineral content of the water is
too high for the planned application, this may lead to the formation of deposits in the humidified room.
●Check the mineral content and conductivity of the drinking water to prevent damage to property!

STULZ UltraSonic -System for duct humidication ENS 14 A - 18 A- Product description
4.1. Sizes
The STULZ UltraSonic ENS model series is available with different humidier capacities:
• ENS 14 A (Art.Nr.: K 87009)
• ENS 18 A (Art.Nr.: K 87010)
Technical features:
• 14 - 18 kg/h humidier capacity
• 24-30 integrated transducers
• Stainless steel housing WNr. 1.4301 (X5CrNi18-20) + WNr. 1.4106 (X2CrNi19-11)
CAUTION
Adiabatic behavior.
STULZ UltraSonic humidiers atomize the water in minuscule droplets (< 0.001 mm). The mist (aero-
sols) produced in this way draws heat from the surrounding air (enthalpy) and changes its state from u-
id to aqueous. This "adiabatic" behavior (removal of heat from surrounding air) cools the air in the room.
Note
4.2. Rating plate
The rating plate contains the most important data for identication of the STULZ UltraSonic ENS ultra-
sonic humidier and about the application limits. The rating plate is afxed to the side of the humidier.
The data on the rating plate are required for the following:
●Safe use of the STULZ UltraSonic ENS ultrasonic humidier
●When phoning the STULZ hotline with questions
The rating plate must be permanently afxed to the humidier.

4.3. Description of unit
Units in the UltraSonic ENS model series 14 A to ENS 18 A are duct humidiers that work on the princi-
ple of ultrasonic atomization of demineralized drinking water. The principal components of this device are
made from stainless steel or high-grade plastic. The humidier is fully assembled, internally wired and
leak tested at the factory, where it also undergoes testing under standard operating conditions.
The polished stainless steel housing with removable stainless steel hood contains ultrasonic atomization
modules, a solenoid valve and two oat switches.
The compact UltraSonic atomization module is mounted on the oor of the water tank. To increase op-
erational reliability, each transducer has its own electronics, consisting of a rectier, vibration circuit and
transistor amplier. The ultrasonic vibrations produced in this way are aimed at the surface of the water,
which is then atomized.
The airow in the duct distributes the mist produced in the water tank around the room.
To prevent larger droplets in the airow, the mist is blown out by specially shaped mist guide tubes. The
unit has an air bypass as standard, which allows mechanical calibration of the effective humidifying
output.
Water is supplied by an inlet valve with an integrated stainless steel lter strainer, which is protected
against overheating if it were to run dry. The water level is controlled by hermetically sealed, dust-insensi-
tive magnetic oat switches, which additionally monitor unwanted dry running.
To achieve optimum atomization, the water level in the tank must be kept as constant as possible. In ad-
dition to the oat switches, the solenoid valve also assists with automated monitoring of the water supply.
If the water in the tank falls below the normal level, the upper oat switch switches and the solenoid valve
opens the water supply to the tank. Once the normal water level is reached, the solenoid valve is closed
once more.
Operating the humidier with an inadequate water level damages the transducers. To prevent this, the
lower oat switch switches and operates a relay in the control cabinet, which turns off the power supply
to the unit if the water falls below the safety level:
In addition, a thermostat switches the power off if the temperature in the ultrasonic humidier rises above
a preset threshold. Varistors are installed to protect the electronics from voltage peaks.

STULZ UltraSonic -System for duct humidication ENS 14 A - 18 A- Product description
4.4. Operating principle of ultrasonic humidication
Ultrasonic humidiers from the STULZ UltraSonic model series work on the principle of ultrasonic atom-
ization. A 48 V alternating voltage is rectied on an nebulizer print plate and converted into a high-fre-
quency signal of 1.65 MHz. This signal is transferred to an transducer installed in the water bath, which
converts it into a high-frequency mechanical oscillation. The integrated transducers are referred to as
thickness transducers, which change their thickness 1.65 million times a second in line with the applied
signal of 1.65 MHz.
The surface of the transducer
(1) vibrates at such high speed
that the water (2) can no longer
follow the movement due to its
inertia. This produces a column
of water (3) above the trans-
ducers as soon as the unit is
switched on.
Because the water is unable to
follow the faster movement of
the transducer, a momentary
vacuum occurs during the nega-
tive amplitude of the transducer.
Cavitation gives rise to bubbles,
which are "catapulted" to the
edge of the water column during
the positive amplitude, where
they knock into one another with
great force. During this process,
extremely ne water particles (4)
are atomized at the edge of the
water column (3). Furthermore,
as the sonic waves are concen-
trated just below the surface
of the water, cross waves are
produced. In the center of these,
minuscule water droplets (4)
break down to form a mist that
is immediately assimilated in the
airow.

4.5. Technical data
The STULZ UltraSonic ENS ultrasonic humidier works on the principle of ultrasonic atomization. The
airow in the duct blows the mist, which was produced in a water tank with the aid of an transducer, into
the room to humidify it. The ultrasonic humidier consists of the atomization modules, the supply module
with solenoid valve that lets in the water supply, oat switches and a housing accommodating a fan. A
switch gear cabinet must be installed externally, which will house the open and closed-loop control sys-
tems and power supply for the unit.
