torcycle.Properbreak-inoperation

mumlifeandperformancefromyour
newmotorcycle.Suzukipartsare

als,andmachinedpartsarefinished
toclosetolerances.Properbreak-in
operationallowsthemachinedsur-
facestopolisheachotherandmate
smoothly.
Motorcyclereliabilityandperformance

Themountingbracketsandother
attachmenthardwareshouldbe
carefullycheckedtoensurethatit
providesfora rigid,non-movable
mount.Weakmountscanallowthe
shiftingoftheweightandcreatea
dangerous,unstablecondition.
Inspectforpropergroundclearance
andbank angle. Animproperly
mountedloadcouldcriticallyre-
ducethesetwosafetyfactors.Also
determinethatthe "load" doesnot
interferewiththeoperationofthe
suspension,steeringorothercon-
troloperations.
Accessoriesfittedtothehandle-
barsorthefrontforkareacancre-
ateseriousstabilityproblems.This
extraweightwillcausethemotor-
cycletobelessresponsivetoyour
steeringcontrol.Theweightmay
alsocauseoscillationsinthefront
endandleadtoinstabilityproblems.
Accessoriesaddedtothehandle-
barorfrontforkshouldbeaslight
aspossibleandkepttoa minimum.
Themotorcyclemaybeaffectedby
aliftingconditionorbyaninstabil-
ityincrosswindsorwhenbeing
passedorpassinglargevehicles.
Improperlymountedorpoorlyde-
signedaccessoriescanresultinan
unsaferidingcondition,therefore
cautionshouldbeusedwhense-
lectingandinstallingallaccesso-
ries.
Certainaccessoriesdisplacethe
riderfromhisorhernormalriding
position.Thislimitsthefreedomof
movementoftheriderandmaylimit
hisorhercontrolability.
Additionalelectricalaccessories
mayoverloadtheexistingelectri-
calsystem.Severeoverloadsmay
damagethewiringharnessorcre-
atea dangeroussituationduetothe
lossofelectricalpowerduringthe
operationofthemotorcycle.
Whencarryinga loadonthemotor-
cycle,mountitaslowaspossibleand
ascloseaspossibletothemachine.
Animproperlymountedloadcancre-
atea highcenterofgravitywhichis
veryhazardousandmakesthemo-
torcycledifficulttohandle.Thesizeof
the"load"canalsoaffecttheaerody-
namicsandhandlingofthemotor-
cycle. Balafice theloadbetweenthe
rightandleftsideofthemotorcycle
andfastenitsecurely.

spacebehindthefairing.Objects

MODIFICATION
Modificationofthemotorcycle,orre-
movaloforiginalequipmentmayren-

makeanymodificationssuchas drill-
ingorweldingtotheframeasitweak-

eratingconditionandsubsequentac-
cident.Suzukiwillnotberes-ponsible
inanywayforpersonalinjuryordam-

The"E"markindicatesthefueltankis
emptyornearly so. The "F" markindi-
catesthefueltankisfull.
LOWFUELINDICATORLIGHT®
Thelowfuelindicatorlightcomeson
whenthefuelinthefueltankdrops
below3.5liters(3.7/3.1 US/Imp, qt).
Theindicatorlightcomesonwhenthe
ignitionswitchisturnedonandgoes
offwhenthefueltankhasenoughfuel.
NOTE: Add fuel to the fuel tank at the
first opportunity to avoid running out
of fuel when the low fuel indicator light
comes on.

Whentheleftturnsignalsareoper-
ated,theindicatorlightwillflashatthe
sametime.
NOTE: If the turn signal light is not
operating properly due to bulb filament
or circuit failure, the indicator light flick-
ers more quickly to notify the rider of
the existence of trouble.
TACHOMETER®
Thetachometerindicatestheengine
speedinrevolutionsperminutes
(r/min).
OILPRESSUREINDICATORLIGHT

Theoilpressureindicatorlightcomes
onwhentheengineoilpressureis
belowthenormaloperating range.The
indicatorlightcomesonwhentheig-
nitionswitchisturnedonandtheen-
gineisnotrunning.Assoonasthe
enginestarts,theindicatorlightshould
go off.
ACAUTION
Ridingthemotorcyclewiththeoil
pressureindicatorlightlitcandam-
agetheengineandtransmission.
Whenevertheoilpressureindica-
torlightsup,indicatinglowoilpres-
sure,stoptheengineimmediately.
Checktheoillevelanddetermine
iftheproperamountofoilisinthe
|engine.Ifthelightstilldoesnotgo
out,haveyourauthorizedSUZUKI
dealerorqualifiedmechanic
troubleshootyourmotorcycle.

showsthatthefuelinjectionsys-
temhasminorfailure.Bringyour
motorcycletoan anthorized Suzuki
dealerorqualifiedmechanictoin-
spectthemotorcycle.Continuous
operationinthisconditionmayse-
riouslydamagethemotorcycle.
3.Whenthefuelinjectionsystemin-
dicatorindicates"CHEC,"theen-
ginewillnotstart.Makesurethat
theenginestopswitchisturnedon
andthetransmissionisinneutral
positionwiththesidestandfullyup.
Iftheindicatorstillindicates
"CHEC,"inspecttheignitionfuse
next.
SPEEDOMETER ®
Thespeedometerindicatestheroad
speedinkilometersperhourandmiles
perhour.

Whentherightturnsignalsareoper-

Thecoolanttemperaturemeterindi-

ACAUTION
Runningtheenginewithhighen-
ginecoolanttemperaturecan
causeseriousenginedamage.If
theenginecoolanttemperaturein-
dicatorlightcomeson,stopthe
enginetoletitcool.
Donotruntheenginerununtilthe
coolanttemperatureindicatorgoes
off.
NOTE:Theneedlepoints "H" when the
engine stop switch is turned to the
"OFF"position with the ignition switch
in "ON"position.
NEUTRALINDICATORLIGHT®
Theindicatorlightwillcomeonwhen
thetransmissionisinneutral.Thelight
goesoffwhenyoushiftintoanygear
otherthanneutral.

closethethrottleatthesametimeyou
operatethegearshiftlever.Liftthe

thelevertodownshift.Neutralislo-

Whenneutralisdesired,depressor

NOTE: When the transmission is in

RIDINGTIPS
STARTINGTHEENGINE
Beforeattemptingtostarttheengine,
makesure:
•Thetransmissionisinneutral.
•Theenginestopswitchisinthe "O"
position.
NOTE: This motorcycle is equipped
with interlockswitches forthe ignition
circuit and the starter circuit.
The engine can only be started if:
•The transmission is in neutral and
the clutch isdisengaged, or
•The transmission is in gear, the side
stand is fully up and the clutch is
disengaged.
WhentheEngineisCold:
1. Turnthechokeleverallthewayto-
wardyou.
2.Closethethrottlecompletelyand
pushtheelectricstarterbutton.
3.Immediatelyaftertheenginestarts,
keeptheenginespeedat2000-
2500 r/min byvaryingthechoke
leverposition.
4.Movethechokelevertothe"OFF"
positionapproximately30seconds
afterenginestarts.Itmaybenec-
essarytousethechokelongerthan
30secondsinextremelycold
weather.
WhentheColdEngineisHardto
Start:
1. Turnthechokeleverallthewayto-
wardsyou.
2.Openthethrottleapproximately
1/8turnandpushtheelectric
starterbutton.
