barsorthefrontforkareacancre-
ateseriousstabilityproblems.This
extraweightwillcausethemotor-
cycletobelessresponsivetoyour
steeringcontrol.Theweightmay
alsocauseoscillationsinthefront
endandleadtoinstabilityproblems.
Accessoriesaddedtothehandle-
barorfrontforkshouldbeaslight
aspossibleandkepttoa minimum.
Themotorcyclemaybeaffectedby
aliftingconditionorbyaninstabil-
ityincrosswindsorwhenbeing
passedorpassinglargevehicles.
Improperlymountedorpoorlyde-
signedaccessoriescanresultinan
unsaferidingcondition,therefore

agetheengineandtransmission.
Whenevertheoilpressureindica-
torlightsup,indicatinglowoilpres-
sure,stoptheengineimmediately.
Checktheoillevelanddetermine
iftheproperamountofoilisinthe
|engine.Ifthelightstilldoesnotgo
out,haveyourauthorizedSUZUKI
dealerorqualifiedmechanic
troubleshootyourmotorcycle.

ginewillnotstart.Makesurethat
theenginestopswitchisturnedon
andthetransmissionisinneutral
positionwiththesidestandfullyup.
Iftheindicatorstillindicates
"CHEC,"inspecttheignitionfuse
next.

Thespeedometerindicatestheroad
speedinkilometersperhourandmiles
perhour.

coolanttemperatureindicatorgoes
off.
NOTE:Theneedlepoints
"H"
when the
engine stop switch is turned to the
"OFF"position with the ignition switch
in "ON"position.
NEUTRALINDICATORLIGHT®
Theindicatorlightwillcomeonwhen
thetransmissionisinneutral.Thelight
goesoffwhenyoushiftintoanygear
otherthanneutral.

GEARSHIFTLEVER
Thismotorcyclehasa 6-speedtrans-
missionwhichoperatesasshown. To
shiftproperly,pulltheclutchleverand
closethethrottleatthesametimeyou
operatethegearshiftlever.Liftthe
gearshiftlevertoupshiftanddepress
thelevertodownshift.Neutralislo-
catedbetweenlowand2ndgear.
Whenneutralisdesired,depressor
lifttheleverhalfwaybetweenlowand
2ndgear.
NOTE: When the transmission is in
neutral the green indicator light on the
instrument panel will be lit. However,
even though the light is illuminated,
cautiously release the clutch lever
slowly to determine whether the trans-
mission is positively in neutral.
Reducethemotorcyclespeedbefore
down-shifting.Whendown-shifting,
theenginespeedshouldbeincreased

STARTINGTHEENGINE
Beforeattemptingtostarttheengine,
makesure:
•Thetransmissionisinneutral.
•Theenginestopswitchisinthe
"O"
position.
NOTE: This motorcycle is equipped
with interlockswitches forthe ignition
circuit and the starter circuit.
The engine can only be started if:
•The transmission is in neutral and
the clutch isdisengaged, or
•The transmission is in gear, the side
stand is fully up and the clutch is
disengaged.
WhentheEngineisCold:
1.
Turnthechokeleverallthewayto-
wardyou.
2.Closethethrottlecompletelyand
pushtheelectricstarterbutton.
3.Immediatelyaftertheenginestarts,
keeptheenginespeedat2000-
2500
r/min
byvaryingthechoke
leverposition.
4.Movethechokelevertothe"OFF"
positionapproximately30seconds
afterenginestarts.Itmaybenec-
essarytousethechokelongerthan
30secondsinextremelycold
weather.
WhentheColdEngineisHardto
Start:
