DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS
EZ DAM®Description
EZ DAM®is one of the few versatile products in dentistry that simultaneously
completes 5 different tasks. It retracts the tongue, retracts the cheek, is a
throat pack, is a bite block and performs high volume suction - all at once.
This truly benefits both you as a dental professional and your patients by
saving valuable time, while providing a more comfortable and safer dental
experience. It eliminates the need to focus on suctioning so the dental team
can concentrate on the procedure. The following is a list of some applications
where EZ DAM®has proven to be beneficial
Restorative dentistry
Proper isolation of the oral cavity reduces humidity, protects the patient, offers
less interruptions, provides retraction of the cheek and tongue, isolates the
working field, and evacuates fluid from the oral cavity.
EZ DAM®allows for predictable results, increases resin bond strengths to
teeth and decreases microleakage. Proper isolation prior to the placement
of dental sealants is imperative to the long-term success of the bond.
Restorative outcomes are improved by keeping the mouth dry and facilitating
better impressions. The bottom line better, consistent moisture control
results in superior success.
Perfect for:
• Sealants/Fillings
• Inlays/Onlays
• Crowns/Bridges
• CAD CAM
• Laser dentistry
• Implants
• Veneers

DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS
Hygiene
EZ DAM®is perfect for hygiene, it allows you to work quickly and easily in
two quadrants at a time, increasing efficiency and streamlining procedures.
The bite block is more comfortable for the patient and the specially designed
customizable mouthpiece offers safety from injury, aspiration, reduces
aerosolic particles and decreases other potentially infectious materials when
using highspeed handpieces and ultrasonic scalers.
Ideally suited for the following:
• Sealants
• Prophylaxis
• Ultrasonic scaling and root planing
Surgery
When performing sedation EZ DAM®helps keep the mouth propped open
for easier access to the oral cavity. It also retracts, protects and manages the
airway and soft tissue during the procedure. EZ DAM®is great for placing
implant screws and other small devices by keeping everything out of the way,
protected and dry.
Other uses
Dental emergencies are unpredictable and are time critical. EZ DAM®pro-
vides your team with a safe and efficient way to control the oral environment
regardless of the situation. The versatile combination of retraction, suction,
throat packing and bite block allows the situation to be managed quickly and
safely. Also, once anesthetized, the mouthpiece acts as a barrier for dislodged
or undetected objects in the mouth. This is very convenient especially when
multiple quadrants are involved.
Flexibility and freedom – EZ DAM®acts as a continual suction assistant which
can free up your staff for other needs.

EZ DAM®PARTS DESCRIPTIONS
The bite blocks
The bite blocks come in 5 different sizes Small, Small-Medium, Medium, Large and
X-Large. The Small size bite block is great for children under 12 years of age. The Small-
Medium bite block is ideal for small framed patients, especially females and teenagers.
Medium, Large and X-Large bite blocks are fitted mostly for males. The way you gauge
the bite blocks is to size the block to roughly 2/3 to 3/4 of a full mouth opening. One
of the benefits of the EZ DAM®system is that the bite blocks are interchangeable
quickly so you can easily size up the patients. You can sterilize the ones you’ve tried in,
in order to be ready for the next patient.
The core
The core is the connector that is the heart of the
EZ DAM®system. You attach the bite block,
mouthpiece and suction hose to it in order to
configure the system for use. Make sure that you
have the right orientation while assembling the
system. (see Installation & Use #2)
The suction hose
The suction hose comes with a control valve for
suction at the top end so you can control the
suction strength right at the oral cavity. On the
other end of the hose is a high volume suction
adaptor so it can easily be inserted into the
HVAC to commence working with EZ DAM®.
This allows the EZ DAM®system to easily be
used and shared in several operatories. At the
other end there is a nylon stopper around the
hose to provide more width for mounting support.

7
The T-connector
The T-connector allows you to perma-
nently install EZ DAM®in your opera-
tory by sharing the HVAC line. All you
do is connect the T-Connector to your
existing HVAC line which permits
you to attach the EZ DAM®tubing in
order to have both suction modalities
available simultaneously.
EZ DAM®Mouthpieces
The EZ DAM®system has 2 different
mouthpiece choices; “Soft” and
“Retract”.
The “Soft” mouthpiece is made of
a unique latex-free material called
Dynaflex, which is very flexible and
trimmable. The soft mouthpiece
comes in both “Adult” and “Junior”
sizes and is recommended for all
patients. The flexibility of the mouth-
piece allows the practitioner to move
freely by displacing the mouthpiece as
they work around the oral cavity.
The “Retract” mouthpiece is also
made from Dynaflex, but is more rigid
and provides better retraction. It is
also trimmable and is only available in
the Adult size. The “Retract” mouth-
piece is recommended for patients who
are tongue thrusters and or patients
that have thicker cheeks.

All EZ DAM®mouth ieces
are dis osable and are for
single use only.

INSTALLATION & USE
Adapting the EZ DAM®unit to your operatory chair is easy! Simply
follow the instructions below to start using the system in just minutes.
Plug the HVAC adaptor side of the
EZ DAM®suction hose directly into the
HVAC metal receptacle.
1
Take your EZ DAM®core and choose
the right sized bite block for the indivi-
dual patient. A good way to measure is
to choose a bite block that keeps the
mouth open approximately 2/3 to 3/4
of their maximum capability.
TIP: note in the patients file – the bite block
size you chose.
Slide the bite block onto the EZ DAM®
core stabilizing pin as shown here.
2
Insert the EZ DAM®core single end
into the valve of the suction hose. You
should hear and/or feel the EZ DAM®
core snap into place.

9
When attaching the mouthpiece, make
sure that the suction channels are
pointing downward and that you bend
the mouthpiece away from the bite
block.
Fold and grasp the mouthpiece as
shown for an easier insertion technique
and placement.
Attach the appropriate mouthpiece to the
EZ DAM®core by aligning the three holes
of the mouthpiece with the two stabilizers
and central suction input of the EZ DAM®
core. Slide on until fully inserted up to the
plastic EZ DAM®core body.
TIP: note in the patients file – mouthpiece size
and if mouthpiece was trimmed in relation to
palate height for patient comfort.
In order to work on the opposing side
of the mouth simply remove the mouth-
piece from the EZ DAM®core, rotate
the EZ DAM®core 180 degrees and
reinsert the mouthpiece. Remember to
bend away from the bite block.

When inserting make sure to clear the
upper and lower distal molar area for
proper throat packing.

OPTION: Installing the T-connector
If you would like to install the EZ DAM®system permanently in your operatory,
use the T-connector to split the HVAC hose.
1. Make sure your hi-vacuum unit is
turned off.
2. Cut your hi-vacuum suction hose
approximately 4” below where it
connects to your equipment tray.
Apply lubricant on ends “A” and
“B” of T-connector & slide the ends
of the cut hose as shown in the
picture below.
3. Unplug* the white HVE adaptor
from your 6’ EZ DAM®suction
hose and attach that hose to “C”
of the T-connector. (Store HVE
adaptor in a safe place for future
use, if needed.)
*An alternative option is to cut a small
section (1 2”) of the 6’ suction hose
where the HVE adaptor is connected if
you have trouble removing it manually.

GETTING TO KNOW EZ DAM®
Preparing the patient experience
We highly recommend that every team member experience the EZ DAM®
system in their own mouths. Like any other change in the routine, staff
members have to be comfortable with what they are using with patients and
how they will introduce it to patients. Be sure to introduce the EZ DAM®
system as a better way to protect the patient’s soft tissues, to prevent anything
from getting into the back of the mouth, and as an ideal way to suction and
keep the mouth properly isolated for a superior treatment outcome. The
unique design of the system allows patients to rest their jaws on the bite block
and keeps the cheek and tongue at bay out of the way of any instruments or
handpieces. Let them know that your office is now “clamp free” and that
you’ve invested in this technology in order to provide the very best safety
and care available. As for gagging patients this system may help them as
they have space for the tongue to go on the side and they can feel secure by
biting down onto something. We recommend you use the system, play
with the EZ DAM®positioning from 1st premolar to canine area and adjust
accordingly for access and comfort.
Single Use
All mouthpieces are disposable and are one time use only. Do not autoclave or
disinfect the mouthpieces as they were not designed to do this. The channels
and materials are not suited for proper sterilization and the mouthpieces must
be disposed of after each use.

12
GETTING TO KNOW EZ DAM®
Sterilization and disinfection of the parts
1. Disconnect the mouthpiece and discard.
2. Disconnect the EZ DAM®core and bite block from the valve.
3. Remove the bite block from the EZ DAM®core.

120°C and 132°C. The EZ DAM®core can also be cold soaked.
5. Run disinfectant solution through the suction hose after each use.
Do not autoclave the suction hose.
6. Store items in sterilized pouches until the next use.
7. All parts must be completely dry and cooled down before use.
