1. WARNING

1. Atplaces where special caution isrequired, the necessarysafety

cabinet, or on the part concerned. Please follow these safety
precautions, and also those listed inthe Owner's Manual.
2. Parts which have a ;mark inthe circuitdiagram or inthe parts
list are essential for safety. When replacing these parts, be sure to
use onlythe specified parts.
3. Use the specified types for internal wiring (double-insulated
wiring, etc.).
4. When replacing parts on the AC primaryside (power transformer,
electricswitch, electrical cord, noise-prevention condenser, etc.),
wind the lead wire and secure itbysoldering.
5. Donot let the wiring come into contact with heat-emitting devices
(fuse resistor, radiator plate, etc.).
6. When replacing the wiring, make sure that itisnot incontact with

the unfinished or rough edge of apart.
7. When replacing the power cord (except for the plug-intype), tug it
from various directions to confirm that itdoes not slipout of
place.
8. Spacing
Ifsoldering was done on the AC primarycircuit, confirm that the
interval between the soldered terminalsor between the terminal
and surrounding metallicparts isat least the minimum required
(between the primarycircuitand the chassis: at least 6.5mm;
between primarycircuitterminals: at least 4.0mm; between
primarycircuitterminalsand secondarycircuitterminals: at least
6.5mm.).
2. SAFETY PRECAUTION
2.1. SafetyPrecaution
1. Before servicing, unplug the power cord to prevent an electric
shock.
2. When replacing parts, use onlythe manufacturer’srecommended
components for safety.
3. Check the condition of the power cord. Replace ifwear or damage
isevident.
4. After servicing, be sure to restore the lead dress, insulation
barriers, insulation papers, shields, etc.
5. Before returning the serviced equipment to the customer, be sure
to make the following insulation resistance test to prevent the
customer from being exposed to ashock hazard.
2.2. Insulation Resistance Test
1. Unplug the power cord and short the prongs of the plug with a
jumper wire.
2. Turn on the power switch.
3. Measure the resistance value with an ohmmeter between the
jumpered AC plug and each exposed metal cabinet part, such as
screw heads, connectors, control shafts, handlebrackets, etc.

Measurements shouldrange from 4MOhm to infinityfor all
exposed parts.

5. Initial Setting
The following procedure resets all programmable settings, functions and memories totheir
initialized(factory-preset) status.
Use this procedure if the buttons, keys, etc. malfunction, orwhenyou wishtoreset the
memories and functions.
1. Turn off the POWERbutton.
2. Whilepressing the INITIALkeyat the same time, turn the POWER
button on again.
Or, you canpress the INITIALkeywhile the MODE SETbutton is pressed.

10. Symptoms Which Appear to be Signs of Trouble
The following changes inperformance mayoccurinthe Technics Digital Ensemble but do not

indicate trouble.
Phenomenon Remedy
Nosound is producedwhenthe keyboardis
played. Nosound is producedif the MAIN VOLUME is
set

If the MIDI LOCALCONTROLis set tooff, set it

on the display. During normal performance,

the returneddata are bothproduced, causing
undesirable
effects, suchas the sounds canceling each

software
toprevent receiveddata frombeing returned,

MIDI LOCALCONTROLtooff.
About the backup memory
The selectedsound and various functions, MIDI settings and SEQUENCER contents remainin
the memoryforabout one week afterthe POWER is turnedoff.
-The backup memorywill not function until the POWERhas been on
for about 10minutes.
-Ifyou wish to return all memories and settings to theirinitialized
status, whilepressing the MODESET button, press the INITIAL
keyon the keyboard. Oryou can turn on the POWERwhile
pressing the INITIALkey.
-When the POWERisturned on, the MIDI LOCALCONTROLisset to
on.
-Ifyou wish to retainthe memoryfor longer than one week, before
one week has elapsed, turn on the power and leave iton for about
10 minutes before turning itoff again. The settings will remainin
the memoryfor about one week from thistime.
11. About the Self-Diagnostic Function
This model has some self-diagnostic capabilities. Whenset tothe self-diagnostic mode,
operation of various components canbe verifiedbyfollowing the procedures inthe chart below.

3MAIN Wave ROM check
MAIN: IC12 1. Press and holdthe twoE keys shownbelow, and

the powerswitch.
2. Select the POP GRAND sound.
3. Reduce the MAIN VOLUME level lowenough.
Whenset tothe self-diagnostic mode, the Wave ROM outputs a sine wave. The
Wave
correspond tothe keyboardkeys as showninthe diagramtothe right. Whena
key
pressed, the corresponding sine wave sound is produced. If no sound is
produced,
sound is distorted, the Wave ROM corresponding tothat keyis defective. This
methode
allows todiagnose alsothe output routes (L/R) fromthe Wave ROM.

13. PRECAUTIONS BEFORE SERVICING
13.1. Precautions for measuring of the output waveforms
1. The waveform was measured with a“National Digital Storage
Oscilloscope VP-5730A”. Therefore the waveforms of musical
tone signalsshownmaydiffer somewhat due to the difference in
the timing of triggering.
2. Since the 1/10 test probe isused, the indicated voltage value on
the bottom part of each waveform illustration is1/10 of the actual
value (e.g. 0.2V/cm shouldbe 2.0V/cm).
3. To measure the waveforms, first set thisunitto the service
diagnosticmode (refer to “WAVE ROMtest”). The WAVE ROM
output will then be output as asine wave to facilitate the servicing
check.
