5.1 Speaker System with Powered Subwoofer
User Guide

Do not use this apparatus near water.

Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instruc-
tions.
Do not install or operate near any heat sources such
as radiators, stoves, or other apparatus that produce
heat.
Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or
harmful interference to radio or television reception,
which can be determined by turning the equipment
o and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the
interference by one of the following measures:
- Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
- Increase the separation between the equipment and
receiver.
- Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit
dierent from that to which the receiver is connected.
- Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV
technician for help.
ELECTRICAL INFORMATION
Mains Supply: The mains operating voltage of this unit
is on the rating plate on the rear.
The means of disconnection from the mains supply is
the ON/OFF switch which is located on the rear panel.
There must be sucient distance between the rear
panel of the subwoofer and the wall to permit free
unobstructed access to the ON/OFF switch.
LISTENING LEVELS
Caution: Listening to audio equipment for extended
periods at high volume levels can damage your
hearing.

Refer all servicing to qualied service personnel.
Servicing is required when the apparatus has been
damaged in any way, such as the power-supply cord

newandpartusedbatteries.

Note:Digital(SPDIF)connectionsarenotsupported.ToreceiveDolbyDigital/DTS
signalsyourDVD/AVprocessororPCsoundcardmustfeaturethesedecoders.
All connections will require the purchase of suitable cables. The cables you need
are indicated in the connection diagrams. Consult the user manual of your
source equipment if in doubt.
Ensurethattheinterconnectingcablesarelongenoughtocomfortablyreachthe
amplierpanelofthesubwoofer.Donotextendsignalcables.

The Front Speakersshouldpointslightlyinandfacingthelisteningposition
The Centre Speaker shouldbemountedaboveorbelowthemonitorscreen
centraltothefrontspeakersandthelisteningseat.
IdeallyFrontandCentrespeakersshouldbeatthesameheightandinline..
The Rear loudspeakersarelesscriticalbutideallyshouldfaceinwardfromapoint
somewhatbehindthelistener’shead.
Theheightofthesatellitesisimportant-ideallytheyshouldbeatearlevelor
slightlyabove,pointingdown.atthelistenerThesatellitesmaybeplacedon
shelvesorstandsorhungonthewallwithsuitablemountinghardware.
The :ubwoofermaybeplacedalmostanywhere,butapositioninfrontofthe
listenerispreferred.Ifyouwanttooperatethesubwooferremotelyitisessential
tohaveclearunobstructedspacebetweentheHandsetandtheI/R“eye”ofthe
subwoofer.
Donotplacethesubwooferwhereitislikelytobeobscuredbyfurnitureorother
objects.
Placingthesubwooferacrossacornerwillincreasebassbutthesoundmaybe
distorted.The ON/OFF switch must be readily accessible.
Theaboveareourrecommendations-youshouldexperimentuntilyoundthe
positionthatmostsuitsyourpersonalcircumstancesandtaste.
Connecttheloudspeakersasinthediagrambelow.Ifaloudspeakercableistoo
shortyoushouldbuyanextensioncable.DoNOTcutandspliceloudspeaker
cables.
SAFETY NOTES:
Whenrunningsignalandspeakercablesroutethemwellawayfromopenoor
andotherspaceswheretheycanbeasourceofdanger.Donottrailcablesclose
tobreakableobjectsetc.
Donotrunsignalcables(especiallythesubwooferinputcable)parallelwithmains
cablesorthesystemmaypickuphumandnoise.
Placethesatellitespeakersinlocationswheretheyaresafe,unlikelytofallor get
knockedoverandwheretheycannotcauseotherobjectstorattle.

SPEAKER PLACEMENT

OPERATION
Please refer to the manual of your source equipment where necessary.
SWITCHING ON
Checkthattheequipmentisproperlyconnected.
• Switchonthesourceequipment.
• Plugthemainsplugintothemainssocketandswitchthepoweron.
• SwitchtheON/OFFswitchonthesubwooferON.Themainsindicatoronthe
subwooferwillglowindicatingthesystemisoperational.
• TurnthemainVolumecontrolonthesubwoofertoalow
level.Turnclockwisetoincrease,anticlockwisetodecrease
thevolume.
SYSTEM DEFAULTS
Wheneveryouswitchonatthemainsthesystemstateis:
MODE: Surround
SATELLITE SPEAKERS: Allsettothesamevolumelevel
BASS (Subwoofer) LEVEL: SettothesamelevelastheSatellites
VOLUME LEVEL: Settomidlevel
BYPASS AND SURROUND MODES
SURROUND:Thedefaultmodeofthesystemis“Surround”.Ittakestheinputfrom
astereosourceandprocessesittosimulatea5.1sourcesothatyoureceivea“sur-
roundsound”eectfromalltheloudspeakersandthesubwoofer.Thismodeisfor
usewithStereo(2channel)inputs.
If your source equipment is Stereo: youshouldalwaysuseSurroundmode.
If your source equipment has a multichannel processor: DonotuseSurround
modeasthesoundwillbegarbled!Letthesourceequipmentdotheprocessing.
BYPASS: Allthesignalsgodirecttothespeakerswithnointernalprocessing.
If your source equipment is Stereo: NEVERuseBypassModeasthesubwooferwill
notreceiveasignalandyouwillgetnoBass!
If your source equipment has a multichannel processor: AlwaysuseBypassMode
forbestresults.
SETTING UP THE SYSTEM - MULTICHANNEL INPUT
• PresstheBYPASSbuttonontheHandset.
• Playsomemusiconthesourceequipment
• SettheMainVolumeControl(usingthehandset
ortheVolumecontrolontheSubwoofer)toasuitablelevel.
• AdjustthevolumeoftheFrontSpeakersatthehandsettoareasonablelevel.
• SettheCentrespeakertothesamelevelastheFrontspeakers.
• UsetheBASScontrolsonthehandsettosetthesubwoofervolume.Theidea
istogetadeepbasssound,nottoswampthesoundwithexcessivebass!
• Nowadjusttheleveloftherearspeakers.Donotsetthisleveltoohighasthis
willadverselyaectthesoundimage.
LARGE or SMALL? Somedigitalsurroundprocessorsaskyoutospecifythesizeof
thespeakers.Ifyourprocessorhasthisfeature,setallthespeakersto“Small”.This
willdirectallthesystembasstothesubwoofer.Remembertosetthesubwoofer
optionontheprocessorto“on”,oryouwillgetnobass.
Setalltheanalogueoutputlevelsfromtheprocessor(DVDplayer,etc.)according
totheinstructionsthatweresuppliedwiththatequipment.
SETTING UP THE SYSTEM - STEREO INPUT
• PresstheSURROUNDbuttonontheHandset.
• Playsomemusiconthesourceequipment
• Adjustthespeakerlevelsasabove.
USING THE SYSTEM
Ifyousetthesystemtomutewhenlastswitchedo,presstheMUTEkeyto
restorethevolume(SeeP.8).
UsetheVolumecontroltoadjusttheoveralllevel.
NEVERlistentoaStereosourceinBYPASSmodeoryouwillgetnobass.Ifyoudo
notwantsoundfromtheCentre/Rearchannels,turnthoselevelsdown.
Use the MUTEkeyonthehandsettomute/unmutethesound.
CAUTION: Ifathighlevelsyouhearpoppingorthumpingnoisesfromthesub-
woofer,turntheVolumedownimmediatelyandthenturnthebassleveldown.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If the system is not performing as well as you expect, please follow the checklist
below before returning the unit to Tesco.
Switch o all connected units before carrying out any checks.
No Sound:
IstheMainsindicatorlit?Ifnot,switchtheSubwooferOFF,checkandrectifythe
mainsconnectionsandthenswitchonagain.Nowresetsystemlevels.
Thesystemisswitchedtomute.Pressthemuteswitchtorestorethevolumelevel.
No Bass/Insucient Bass:
5.1 input:SubwooferoptionontheSoundProcessorisnotenabled.Subwoofer
inputnotpluggedin.BASSlevelturneddown.SpeakerssettoLARGE(SeeP7)
Stereo Input: ThesystemisinBYPASSmode.SwitchtoSURROUNDmode.
Sound appears garbled:
