TECHWOOD PYRODECK CLASS B User manual

Derrinabrin Farm, Norwood Hill Road, Charlwood, Surrey,RH6 0EB, UK
Congratulations on the purchase of your Pyrodeck Class B Fire Rated dual sided composite decking
boards. To ensure that you keep your low maintenance decking looking its best we recommend that
you follow a few easy guidelines.
For periodic cleaning use a soft bristle brush and a dilution of mild soap and warm water. For
those using a power washer we recommend that you stand at least 1m away from the area you are
to clean. Spray in the direction of the grain to avoid damaging the product. Always follow the safety
precautions when operating a power washer. Be sure that water effectively drains from your
wood plastic composite decking.
For those harder to clean areas or where the castellated side of the decking may have been damaged
by the dropping of charcoal etc, we recommend using a 400 grit sandpaper or above. Lightly
sand the decking in the same direction of the grain. Rinse thoroughly with water after sanding.
On the woodgrain side we would recommend the use of colour coded furniture crayons to hide
those difficult to remove scratches.
These guidelines may not cover every maintenance scenario. If you have additional questions please
contact our friendly service team on 0800 799 9082.

INITIAL HINTS AND TIPS FOR INSTALLING PYRODECK
COMPOSITE DECKING
All decking must be laid with a fall for drainage. We recommend that you use 1 in 100.
NOTE: WHEN SCREWING THROUGH COMPOSITE PRODUCTS ALWAYS PRE DRILL ANY HOLES
Joists must be laid on a solid flat
surface such as concrete. Grass,
uneven paving slabs or sand will
cause movement.
Always pre drill composite wood
products using a minimum of
a 4.5mm drill bit. If you do not
you risk damaging the product
over time.
Joists must be set to 350 mm
centres. If not boards may warp
or move. Composite boards
need to be supported across
their length.
Ends of deck boards must be
supported and not have an
overhang of more than 10mm.
If not boards will move or be
damaged.
Butted boards must have an
expansion gap of 5mm between
boards & be supported by
separate joists. At edges a gap
must be left for expansion. If
not boards may warp or crack
under pressure.

COMPOSITE DECKING
IMPORTANT NOTE:
When designing your deck please make note of the joist spacing in your frame. Composite wood behaves differently
to traditional timber, hence for different spacings that you may be used to.
1. Lay your Joists 350mm centre to centre, running the
opposite way to the direction of the Deck Boards.
Make sure to leave a 30mm gap between your walls /
fence to allow for expansion.
2. Pre-drill and screw the Joists to your concrete base.
(If using Composite Joists pre-drill & over-drill holes
to allow for expansion. Use of expansion screws are
recommended). See Figure A.
3. Fix Starter Clips along the edge of each Joists at the
end you wish to start laying boards from. Pre-drill the
screw holes & screw in place. See Figure B.
4. Push your rst board into place, clipping into the
Starter Clips
5. Clip Concealed Fixing Clips into the rst board along
each of the Joists. Pre-drill and screw in place. See
Figure C. Space between boards should be 5mm.
6. If joining 2 lengths of board together, make sure both
ends are supported by separate Joists. Leave a gap
calculated on the expansion rate of 0.3% -0.5% of the
board length to allow for expansion. See Figure D.
7. Push the next board in place. Repeat until your deck is
the required length.
8. Measure out the width of the last board and mark
Joists ready for Starter Clips to nish the deck. Pre-drill
the holes and screw Starter Clips in place.
9. Clip your last board into the
previous board and push down
into place using a rubber mallet
if required. See Figure F.
Overhang
Overhang of boards from joist
should not exceed 20mm.
Finishing L Trim For
Non Step / Non Walking Edge
Lay your nal joist with a 20mm
over hang to allow for expansion.
Screw the 90° angle directly into
the joist. If for a walkway or
doorway, use an aluminium L
shaped cover from your local DIY
store to hide the gap.
