CONNECTING AND USING THE STEAM IRON
Filling the Iron with Water
Ensure the iron is unplugged from the mains and set the variable steam control to
the no steam position, indicated with: .
Open the water tank filling inlet and fill the water tank through the filling inlet. Do
NOT exceed the MAX marks on the side of the iron.
When filling, use the utensil provided with the appliance. Do NOT fill directly from
the tap.
If the water is very hard, it is advisable to fill the iron with distilled water or a 50:50
mix of distilled water and tap water. The harder the water, the more the iron should
be cleaned (see Cleaning).
Ironing
• Ensure that the mains socket is switched off at the wall.
• Fill the iron with water as described.
• Place the iron on the ironing rest of the ironing board, on its heel in an upright
position. Connect the plug to the wall socket.
• On the iron, use the temperature control dial to select the appropriate
temperature for the fabric (See Ironing Temperatures).
• Switch on the power at the wall socket.
The indicator light will turn off when the iron reaches the selected temperature. The
iron is now ready for use.
During use the indicator light will turn on and off as the thermostat maintains the
iron at the selected temperature.
Note: Some parts of the iron have been slightly greased and as a result might
smoke slightly when the iron is switched on for the first time. This will cease after a
short while.
Using Steam
If steam ironing is required, turn the variable steam control to the correct level of
steam for the fabric. Turn the knob clockwise to increase the steam setting.
If dry ironing, turn the knob fully anti-clockwise to the no steam setting, indicated
with: .
Note: Steam ironing is only possible at the highest temperature setting, as
indicated by MAX on the temperature control dial. Do NOT attempt to use steam at
lower temperatures as water will leak from the soleplate.
Spraying Steam
The burst of steam facility provides
additional steam for removing
stubborn wrinkles. It may be used
when steam ironing or dry ironing.
Press the burst of steam button
to release a burst of steam. You may
need to press the button several
times to prime the burst system.
Wait a few seconds for the steam to
penetrate the fabric before pressing
the button again.
The burst of steam facility may be
used when the iron is in a vertical
position, to remove wrinkles/creases
from hanging garments, curtains etc.
Note: For optimum steam quality, do
not apply more than three
successive bursts.
Spraying Water
Press the spray button to spray a thin jet of water on the material being ironed.
This may be used when steam ironing or dry ironing.

IRONING TEMPERATURES
Check the ironing instructions attached to the article to be ironed (they are usually
on a label showing a symbol of an iron). Always follow these instructions. The
indications on the iron’s temperature dial and the table below will help you.
If there are no ironing instructions but you know the fabric, then use the table
below. The table is valid only for the actual materials and does not take into
account of any finish which may have been applied to the fabric. Textiles to which
a finish has been applied (gloss, wrinkle relief, printed T-shirts etc.) should be
ironed at somewhat lower temperatures.
If the fabric consists of mixed fibres, always select the lowest ironing temperature
of the composition, e.g. a 60% polyester/40% cotton mix should be ironed at the
temperature for polyester.
Sort fabrics into groups according to temperature; wool with wool, cotton with
cotton, etc. Start by ironing articles requiring low temperature settings and progress
to higher ones.
Note: Do not iron garments that are dirty or stained. The iron’s heat may set the
stain.
Pure wool fabric (100% wool) may be pressed with the iron set to a steam position
and the wool surface protected by a dry cotton cloth.
Do not iron
Synthetics, Nylon,
Acrylics, Polyester, Rayon
Wool, Silk
Cotton, Linen
MAINTENANCE
Unplug the iron from the mains and allow to cool down fully before pouring away
any excess water.
Cleaning
To remove starch or other deposits from the soleplate, apply a small amount of
mild cleaner to a damp cloth, forming a paste on the cloth. Gently rub the
soleplate, then wipe with a damp cloth.
The body of the iron may be cleaned with a barely damp cloth and then dried
thoroughly. Do not wet the iron body, power cord or mains plug.
CAUTION: Never use scouring pads, abrasives or harsh cleaners on the iron body
or the soleplate as this may scratch the surface.
Anti-Scale
The iron is fitted with and anti-scale cartridge which will reduce the build-up of
limescale that occurs during steam ironing. This will prolong the working life of the
iron.
Self Cleaning
The anti-scale cartridge will not completely stop the build-up of scale. The following
procedure should therefore be carried out at least once a month or more often in
hard water areas:
• Fill the iron with cool water.
• Set the temperature to MAX.
• Set the steam control knob to by turning fully anticlockwise.
• Place the iron on its heel in an upright position.
• Plug the iron into a mains supply and switch it on.
• Wait until the iron has reached the MAX temperature setting.
• Carefully hold the iron horizontally over a sink and turn and hold the variable
steam control at the (descaling) position, pressing down slightly.
• Steam and boiling water will drain from the soleplate, washing away the scale
and minerals that have built up inside the steam chamber.
• Gently shake the iron back and forth until the water tank is empty.
• When self-cleaning is complete, release the variable steam control.
• Place the steam iron back on its heel rest and allow to fully cool down.
• Wipe the soleplate with a cold damp cloth.
STORAGE
Unplug the iron and allow it to fully cool before putting it away. Store the iron on its
heel, with the power cord very loosely coiled up. Do NOT tightly wrap the power
cord around the iron, as it can become damaged and expose the live conductors.
PLEASE SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
