PRELIMINARIES
INTRODUCTION
The MS1701 is a compact micro system with built-in CD player
and FM radio. An aux input is provided to connect line input
sources such as mobile phones, tablets or computers. Your
micro system also includes a headphone jack for personal
listening via headphones or earphones.
UNPACKING
Carefully unpack the unit. If it is damaged, please return it to
your nearest Tesco store for replacement. Remember to take
your purchase receipt with you.
Retain the User Handbook. If you pass the unit on to a third
party make sure you pass on the handbook.
We suggest you retain the packaging. If you dispose of it, do so
having regard to any recycling regulations in your area.

If any items are missing or damaged, contact your nearest
TESCO store for a replacement. Have your receipt ready when

PLACEMENT
Place the unit on a sturdy table or shelf where it cannot get
knocked over.
Make sure that there is a clearance of 10cm (4 inches) around
the unit for ventilation.
Unpack the speakers and untie the cables at the back of the
speakers.
The speakers should be placed at the same level if possible,
either side of the listening position.
CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS
Locate the block of 4 speaker1.

GETTING STARTED
FM RADIO AERIAL
Before using your unit for FM reception, unwrap and fully
extend the aerial wire. You may need to adjust the position of
the aerial wire for maximum signal strength.
CONNECTING POWER
Check that the mains voltage marked on the rating plate•
on the back panel is the same as the voltage in your area.
Plug the mains plug into the wall socket.•
Switch the mains power on at the socket.•
SETTING THE VOLUME
To increase the volume
Turn the• VOL control knob clockwise.
To decrease the volume
Turn the• VOL control knob anti-clockwise.
As you adjust the volume, the volume level will be displayed on a
scale of 00 (minimum) to 32 (maximum).
STANDBY CONTROL
To turn the system on
Press the• button.
The display will light and the system will switch on.

LISTENING TO FM RADIO
Selecting FM mode
Press the• MODE button repeatedly until‘FM’is displayed.
The display will show the tuned frequency.
RADIO PRESETS
Your radio can store up to 20 of your favourite stations as
presets for quick recall.
Auto store
Auto store will search the band and store all stations found as
presets.
Press and• hold the //,button.
The radio will scan the band, searching for stations. As each
station is found it will be stored as a preset. Once the scan is
completed, the radio will tune to the rst station found.
To store a preset manually
Tune to the station you want to store as a preset.•
Press the• PROGRAM/MEMORY button.
The display will ash ‘PROG’ above ‘P’ followed by two digits,
prompting for a preset number. For example, P01 is preset 01.
Station search
Press and• hold the }or {button to search up or down
the band.The radio will stop automatically when the next
station is reached.
Manual step tuning
Press the• }or {button briey to step up or down the
band in 50kHz steps.
If you can hear a lot of background noise when playing the
station, the signal may be weak.
You may be able to improve the signal strength by adjusting
the position of the FM aerial wire.

station.
The station will be stored in your selected preset number.
To browse preset stations
Press the• REPEAT/PRESET button repeatedly to browse
through the preset stations available.
The preset numbers will be displayed.

PLAYING A CD
Fast search
Press and• hold the }or {button to fast search forward
or backward through a track.
The track will search until the button is released.
Repeat
Press the• REPEAT/PRESET button repeatedly to step
through the repeat modes.
Repeat one (•

ashes on display) to repeat the
current track continually.
Repeat all (•

is displayed, not ashing) to repeat
the disc continually.
Repeat o, to switch o repeat.•
Random/Shue
Press the• RANDOM button to set Random mode.

’ will be displayed and the tracks will play in a random
sequence.
Selecting CD mode
Press the• MODE button repeatedly until‘CD’is displayed.
Loading a CD
Press• OPEN/CLOSE on the CD lid to open the lid.
When rst used there may be transit protection installed•
in the CD loading tray. Remove this before use.
Holding the disc by the edges, place the disc on the•
turntable in the centre of the CD loading tray with the
label uppermost. Press the centre of the disc into place on
the turntable with a click.
Close the CD lid and press it down to latch it.•
The unit will read the disc and display the number of tracks on
the disc before starting to play automatically.
Removing a CD
Press• OPEN/CLOSE on the CD lid to open the lid.
Holding the disc by the edges, lift the disc o the loading•
tray and place it back in the case.
Close the CD lid.•
Play/Pause
Press the• //,button repeatedly to switch from play to
pause mode while playing.
The elapsed time of the track playing will be shown.
Stopping play
Press the• .button while the disc is playing.
The CD will stop and the number of tracks on the disc will be
displayed.
Selecting tracks
Press the• }or {button to select the next or previous
track.
Programming tracks
You can load a CD and store a programmed selection of up to
20 tracks to play in your preferred sequence.
To set a program
Load a CD and wait for it to read.•
Press• the .button to stop play.
Press the• PROGRAM/MEMORY button.
‘PROG’ will ash above ‘1’ (rst program entry) and the
ashing legend ‘--’ (the track number of this entry).
Select the track number you want to program by pressing•
the }or {button.
To save the displayed track number into the program•
sequence, press the PROGRAM/MEMORY button.
‘2’ will now ash, waiting for you to enter the second track
in the program.
Repeat the last two steps until you have stored all the•
tracks in the program sequence.
Playing the program
Press the• //,button to start the program playing.
The program will begin to play.
Selecting tracks
You can navigate through the tracks stored in the program•
by pressing the }or {button.
Clearing a program
The program is cleared by stopping play, then pressing the•
.button.
Repeat or random play of a program
Repeat or random modes can be set as normal when a program
is playing.

CARE AND CLEANING
All care and cleaning operations should be carried out with the
unit unplugged from the mains power.
The surface of the unit can be cleaned with a dry cloth. Never
use abrasives, abrasive cloths or chemical solvents .
Loudspeaker grilles can be cleaned carefully with a soft brush.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Poor quality radio reception
The aerial signal may not be adequate. Try repositioning the
aerial wire.
Skipping when playing a CD or CD-ROM
The CD playing surface may be dirty or marked with nger
prints.Try cleaning the CD with a CD cleaner.
No sound or insucient volume level from an AUX
source
You may need to increase the volume setting on your personal
audio player/computer.
AUX INPUT
The Aux input may be used to connect sound sources with a
Line/Aux or Headphone analogue output to play through your
unit.These may include -
Personal audio players•
Personal computers or laptops•
Connecting to the AUX IN jack
Connect a stereo 3.5mm jack cable (not supplied) between•
the headphone or LINE/AUX output of the personal audio
player and the AUX IN jack on the back panel.
Playing the source
Press the• MODE button repeatedly to select AUX mode.
AU will be displayed.
Set your personal audio player/computer to PLAY.•
Set the listening volume to the level you want with the•
volume control.
If there is no sound or if the volume level is not loud enough,
you may need to increase the volume setting on your personal
audio player/computer.
HEADPHONES
There is a headphone output socket on the front panel of the
radio. If headphones are connected to this socket for private
listening, the speakers will cut out automatically.
