1)ConnectblackalligatorclipleadtoTIPterminalandredleadtoRINGterminalatserviceentrance.
Thisisline1.Ifline2isalsotobetested,pluganothercableintothebuilt-inmodularjackalongsidethepermanent
alligatorclipset.Thisaccessesline2onpins3and4oftheResi-Toner's™jack.
TIPandRINGpolarityisnotcriticalonmodernphonesalthoughinstallersgenerallyusethe
definedstandards.Modularphonecordsarealsodefinedasreverse-pinned(pin1goesto6,etc.)bythestandards.
TheResi-Toner's™jackispinnedlikepremiseequipment(CPE),whichistheopposite
ofthewallplate,soastandard
(reverse-pinned)phonecablewillconnectTIPtoTIP.Seepinassignmentstable,Table1.Thecableslistedinthe
AccessoryPartssectioncanbeusedtoconnectline2alongwiththeoneprovided.

todetectthesignal,whichishelpfulwhenthewiresareclosetogetheraswhenterminated.TheLOamplitudesetting
maygenerateastrongersignalwhenconnectingbothleadsoftheResi-Toner™toacablebyreducingthefield
cancelingeffectofhavingasignalandit'sreturnclosetogether,especiallyintwistedpaircable.Amodularphone
cablecanbeusedtoconnecttheResi-Toner™directlytoawalljack,butthesignalwillbeonline2(pins2and5)
ofa6-positionjack.Usetheincluded“no-faultcable”toconnecttoan8-positionjack(Rj45),wherethesignalwill be
onpins3and6.
Tomaximizeradiatedsignalwhiletracingalongacablerun,connectoneleadoftheResi-Toner™toawireorcable
andtheotherendtoground(suchasthecaseofanelectricalbox,electricalconduit,metallicwaterpipeorgroundrod).
Ifnogroundisavailableorthesignalisexcessive,donotconnecttheotherleadtoanything.Letitdangleasneartothe
earthaspossible.Totracecoaxialcable,connecttheResi-Toner™totheungroundedshield.Theshieldwilldoitsjob
iftoneisconnectedtothecenterleadandblockthetone.TheLOamplitudesettingisusefulifthereistoomuch
bleedingofthesignalorthetracerbeingusedhasfixedvolumeandisoverloading.
TheResi-Toner™ hasthreedistinctlydifferenttonetypesavailable-onesteadyandtwodual(orwarble)tones.
1)PressandholdtheTONEbuttonuntilalltheLEDsturnon(lamptest).Thisindicatesentryintothetonestyle
selectionfunction.
2)Continueholdingthebuttondown.OneofthetwoLEDswillturnonsteadyorflashtoindicatethecurrently
selectedtype.TheLEDwillturnonsteadytoindicatethesingletypeisselected.TheLEDwilleither
flashforoneofthedualtonesorbeonsteadyfortheother.Releasingthebuttonbeforetwosecondshavepassed
willleavethesignaltypeunchanged.
3)Toselectanothersignaltype,continueholdingthebuttondownuntilthedesiredtypeisdisplayed.TheResi-
Toner™willcontinuetocyclethroughthethreetypesuntilthebuttonisreleasedortheunittimesoutandturns
