Faulty electrical installation or mains
voltage
which is too high may result in an electric shock.
• The device is only suitable for use with a power supply
voltage of 230 V~/50 Hz.
• If the unit’s case or mains cable is defective or shows
other signs of visible damage, disconnect the mains
adapter immediately from the socket and do not oper-
ate the device.
• If the unit emits smoke or smells of burning or other
unusual odours, disconnect it immediately from the
power supply and do not operate it.
• Never open the unit housing.
Repairs may only be carried out by an authorised
specialist workshop. Only parts which conform with the
original device specifications may be used for repairs.
This device contains electrical and mechanical parts
that are imperative for providing protection against
sources of danger.
• Do not insert any objects through the vents into the
case.
• Only use the unit in indoor areas.
• Do not operate the unit in moist areas and protect it
from drops of water and splash water.
Also take care not to stand vases or other containers
filled with liquid on or near the unit in order to avoid
liquid getting into the housing. If water or other foreign
objects do penetrate the case, immediately disconnect
the mains plug and if applicable, remove any batteries.
Then send the device in to our service address.
• Never touch the power plug with wet hands.
• Check the unit regularly for damage.
Danger Danger to children!
Children can become trapped in the packing
film when playing and suffocate.
• Do not allow children to play with the unit or the pack-
ing film. Danger of suffocation.
• Ensure that children do not remove small parts from
the unit or take them off of the unit (e.g. control knobs
or plug adapters). They could swallow the parts and
choke.
Never allow children to operate electrical devices
unsupervised.
Danger Danger to hearing!
Loud noise may lead to hearing loss.
Particularly when the system is activated and
has been set to maximum volume, very high noise pres-
sure may be produced. This may have psychological
consequences and also cause physical injury. Children
and pets are particularly at risk.
• Set the volume control to a low level.
• When the volume is set high, always keep a certain
distance from the unit and never place your ear directly
on the speaker.
• To avoid damage to health, avoid extended listening at
high volume.
Danger Danger of chemical burns!
Leaking battery acid may lead to chemical
burns.
• Do not allow battery acid to come into contact with
skin, eyes or mucus membranes. In case of contact with
acid rinse the affected parts immediately with plenty of
plain water and if necessary see a doctor.
Danger Danger of injury/damage!
Incorrect location may result in damage.
• Never use the units unmounted in vehicles, in unstable
locations, on wobbly tripods or furniture, on underdi-
mensioned brackets etc. The speakers could tip or fall
down and cause injury to persons or be damaged.
• Place the speakers in such a way that they cannot be
knocked over inadvertently and make sure that the
cables do not pose a trip hazard.
• If mounting the speakers on the wall, make sure that
the job is carried out by a professional.
• Only use suitable wall holders to mount the speakers.
Verify the carrying capacity of the walls.
• Do not place the unit near sources of heat (e.g. heat-
ers, ovens, other heat generating equipment such as
amplifiers etc.)

Attention Fire hazard!
Improper use may lead to damage or fire.
• Do not place open flames such as burning candles or
similar on the unit.
• Ensure sufficient ventilation.
• Do not place the unit in direct sunlight.
• Do not cover the vents with curtains, blankets, news-
papers or similar. Heat build-up inside the unit can
shorten its lifetime.
Attention Risk of damage!
Power overload due to lightning strike may
damage or destroy the unit.
• If the unit is to be left unsupervised for a long period
(e.g. during a holiday), or if a thunderstorm is forecast,
disconnect it from the mains power supply.

product or in combination with various speaker sets.
Please observe the operating instructions included with
the speakers.

Setup
Location tips
• Select a stable, level base.
• Make sure that the environment is clean and free from
dust.
• Avoid placing the unit close to sources of heat or in
direct sunlight.
• Do not place any heavy objects on the cables or the
speakers.
The following data refers to an “ideal home cinema”, in
which the viewer or listener sits in a central position at
sufficient distance in front of the television or screen (see
graphic to the right) and no objects (tables or the like) are
located in between. Unfortunately, the room, furnishings
or other circumstances do not always allow for optimum
arrangement.
The following general rule applies: You can always
experiment on what works best in your listening room in
terms of sound and appearance based on our recommen-
dations. Let your ears (and eyes) decide!
Center speaker
Place the center speaker in a central position directly
under or next to the screen.
Front speakers
The front speakers are set up to the right and left of the
screen or hung at a height of approx. 40 to 120 cm.
They should be roughly in line with the center speaker
and form an equilateral triangle with the listener – the
so-called stereo triangle (distance from the listener =
distance between the speakers). The speakers should
project sound directly into the room or slightly towards
the listener.
Subwoofer
You should also place the subwoofer on the floor close
to the television However, do not place it in the corner
of a room as this may cause uncontrollable frequency
overloads. Often, a location between the front speakers
is ideal.
Surround speakers
The surround speakers are set up or hung at head level
(140 to 210 cm) to the side of the listener and pointed
towards the listener. The distance to the listener should
be at least 100 cm and there should be at least 10 cm
of space between the speaker and the rear wall of the
room.
You can also place the surround speakers at head level
behind the listener and point them towards the screen.

Analogue audio output
You can also connect an additional stereo amplifier with
speakers or (wireless) active speakers to the analogue
audio output 11 “RC/Pre Out” and set them to the follow-
ing modes in the menu:
• 5.1+ 2ch
• 5.1+2ch fix
• 5.1+ Surr
• 7.1
5.1+2ch / 5.1 +2ch fix
The 5.1 audio signal is transmitted to the two stereo chan-
nels as a result. This way, you can project sound from the
cinema into a lobby or bar for example.
5.1+Surr
The surround channels are emitted in this mode. As a
result, you can control the surround speakers via a wire-
less signal (e.g. with the Teufel RearStation 4) if it is not
possible to lay speaker cables.
7.1
You will need an extra stereo amplifier with speakers or
(wireless) active speakers for operation as a 7.1 system.
You can set them up behind the listeners as (rear) speak-
ers (see graphic).
Control panel
The separate control panel 햳also contains the receiver
for the remote control signals. You should therefore place
the control panel in such a way that it is visible from your
sitting position.

You will need two micro-type or AAA batteries with 1.5
Volt (included in the product contents) in order to operate
the remote control.
Inserting batteries
• Gently press the arrow on the battery compartment
cover on the back of the remote control. Push the cover
down and out.
• If applicable, remove any old batteries (please observe
the disposal notes on page 23).
• Insert the batteries in the battery compartment as
shown in the figure.
• Place the cover back on the compartment and push it
closed.
Functionality
The remote control commands are transmitted by infra-
red light. Therefore, the remote control must be pointed
towards the control panel. The infrared receiver 16 is
located on the front side. Make sure that the infrared light
is not obstructed by any object.

Connecting
Danger Danger of injury/damage!
Arrange the cables so that they do not pose a
trip hazard.
Speakers
• Lay the speaker cables from the subwoofer to each
satellite speaker. These cables should be high-quality
double-wire speaker cable with marked strands.
• A connector terminal with two terminal clips is located
on the back side of each speaker. Here you can con-
nect the speaker cables directly or with pin plugs. We
only describe the direct connection in these instruc-
tions.
• The terminals are each marked in red (+) and black (–).
Make sure that the polarity is correct!
Connect the like coloured terminals. Otherwise
the sound quality will suffer. The strands of the
speaker cables are marked with different colours or
shapes.
• Split the single-wire down to approx. 30 mm on both
ends and strip approx. 10 mm of insulation off of each
cord. Twist the single-wire so that no strands are protrud-
ing.
• Turn the connector terminal counterclockwise until
loose. Run the stripped cable end into the now visible
hole. Close the terminal by turning it clockwise. The
cable is now securely clamped in place.
• Connect all cables to the speakers this way.
The connector terminals 9“Speaker Out” for the five sat-
ellite speakers are located on the back of the subwoofer:
• Front – front speakers, “Left” and “Right”.
• Surr. (surround) – rear speakers, left “Left” and right
“Right”.
• Center – center speaker.
As with the speakers, these terminals are also each marked
red (+) and black (–). Connect all cables from the cor-
responding speakers here.

Antennas
Danger Risk associated with lightning strike!
If you are using outdoor or roof antennas, be
absolutely sure that the antenna has lightning
protection.
FM antenna
Connect the antenna for receiving FM stations to the jack
5“FM”. This may be a roof/outside antenna, but also a
cable television connection. You will need a coaxial con-
nector cable for this.
If no antenna connection is available at the installation
location, you can use the enclosed throw-out aerial 햸.
Push the aerial plug into the jack 5“FM” and adjust the
position of the throw-out aerial for best reception. Then
fix the aerial in place.
AM antenna
The enclosed antenna 햵receives medium wave (AM)
stations. You can set up this antenna to be free standing
or screw it onto a (cabinet) wall.
Connect the aerial’s connector cable with the “AM” jacks
4 on the back side of the subwoofer. Press down the
connector terminal lever and run the cable end into the
opening underneath it. Releasing the lever locks the cable
in place.
Inputs for source devices
The subwoofer provides you with three HDMI inputs for
digital audio/video signals (HDMI 1 – 3), two analogue
sound inputs (AUX 1 and 2) as well as an optical and
two coaxial digital sound inputs.
HDMI 1, 2 and 3
You can connect a source device with a digital video
and audio signal to the jacks 1(e.g. PC, Blu-ray player
or video game system). You will need an HDMI cable for
this.
If a source does not transmit audio via HDMI, you can
assign one of the subwoofer receiver’s audio inputs to this
device in the menu.
AUX 1 and AUX 2
You can connect two source devices with analogue sound
to the jacks 14. You will need a dual RCA cable (L and R)
for this.

Coaxial 1 and Coaxial 2
You can connect the coaxial digital audio outputs of two
source devices to the jacks 13. You will need a coaxial
cable with RCA plugs for this.
Optical
You can connect the optical digital sound output of a
source device to the jack 12. You will need an optical
cable with a TOSLINK plug for this. Your source requires
either an optical 3.5 mm jack or a TOSLINK jack.
Television/projector
You can connect your television or your projector to the
jack 2“HDMI Out”. You will need an HDMI cable for
this.
RC/Pre Out
You can connect a stereo receiver, active speaker or wire-
less transmission system to the analogue output 11. You
can set the function of this output in the “System conf.”
menu (see “5.1/7.1” on page 17).
Control panel
With the system link cable 햷, you connect the
jack 22 of the control panel 햳with the jack 3
“Control Unit” of the subwoofer. The small plugs
only fit into the jacks in one position, with the notch
down. Only apply a small amount of force when insert-
ing the plug. Otherwise the thin contacts could bend or
break.
Headphones
You can connect stereo headphones with a 3.5 mm
phone jack to the jack 23 “ ” – the speakers will auto-
matically deactivate as a result.
Danger Danger of injury/damage!
Lower the volume before you pull the head-
phone plug out again; otherwise the speakers
may emit unexpected high sound pressure. This could
injure your hearing or damage the device.
Connecting to a power supply
• Ensure that the mains switch 8“Power” on the
subwoofer is switched off (“0 OFF” position).
• Connect the power connector jack 7with a mains
socket (230V/ 50Hz) using the power cord 햶.

Basic functions
Activating and deactivating
• You can activate and deactivate your subwoofer with
the mains switch 8“Power” on the backside of the
device.
After activation, the device is in standby mode and the
indicator 15 is red.
• With button 21 “Power” or 46 “ ” you can switch your
subwoofer to operating or standby mode.
Automatic activation
You can turn on automatic activation and deactivation of
the device in the menu (see “Standby mode”, page 17).
Selecting a source
After turning on the device, the last selected source
device is activated.
• With the button 20 “Source” you can switch the source
in this order:
HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3, OPT, COAX 1, COAX 2,
AUX 1, AUX 2, FM (USW radio), AM (MW radio).
• Or you can select the source directly with the source
buttons 25 on the remote control.
The selected source is shown in the display panel 17.
Adjusting the volume
• Increase the volume: Push the button 18 “+” or the but-
ton 29 “Vol +”.
• Decrease the volume: Push the button 18 “–” or the
button 29 “Vol –”.
The selected volume in the range from “-69.0 dB” (low) to

Mute
• Turn off the sound with the button 28 “ ”.
“MUTE” will appear in the display panel 17.
• Turn the sound back on: Push the button 28 “ ”again
or adjust the volume.

Menu functions
You can set various subwoofer functions via the menu. To
use the menu:
• Push the select button 19 “Enter” or 41 “•”. The main
menu will appear on the connected screen and in the
display panel 17.
• Select the desired sub-menu with the set buttons 18
“+/–” or
31 “▲/▼ ” and push the select button 19 “En-
ter” or 41 “•”.
• The sub-menu will open and you can select the next
sub-menu or change values with the set buttons 18
“+/–” or 31 “▲/▼”.
• With the select button 19 “Enter” or 41 “•” you can
apply the setting.
• You can terminate or abort the respective function by
pushing the button 20 “Source” or 32 “Return” and
return to the previous menu.
If the menu appears in German, switch the language to
English as follows:
1. Select the item “System Setup”.
2. Select the item “D/E”.
3. Select the item “English”.
The onscreen menu will now switch to English.
4. Push the button 32 “Return” until only the main menu
can still be seen.
“Tuner” menu
This menu is only available in radio mode (FM/AM).
Station memory
Here you can switch station memory slots with the set but-
tons 18 “+/–” or
41 “▲/▼”.
Frequency
Here you can set the tuning frequency with the set buttons
18 “+/–” or
41 “▲/▼”:
• Manually: Every time the button is tipped, the frequen-
cy is increased or decreased by one increment (FM:
0.05 MHz, AM: 9 kHz).
• Automatically: Holding down the button for a pro-
longed period of time starts station scanning in the
desired direction until a station with sufficiently strong
reception power is found.
Program search (APS)
You can activate an automated station search by pressing
down the Mem button 34 for a few seconds. Respond to
the query “Auto tuning OK?” by pushing the select button
19 “Enter” or 41 “•”. The device will automatically save
the first 30 stations on FM or the first 10 stations on AM.
All previous memory slots will be deleted in this process.
Erasing memory slots
You can erase specific station memory slots this way:
Push the select button 19 “Enter” or 41 “•” to clear or the
button 20 “Source” or 32 “Return” to cancel.

“Surround” menu
Switch surround mode for 2 channel sources with the set
buttons 18 “+/–” or
41 “▲/▼” in the following order:
2.1 Stereo Stereo only via front left/right and
Subwoofer
5.1 Stereo Stereo across all channels (upmix)
Dolby PLII Movie Dolby ProLogic II for movies
Dolby PLII Music Dolby ProLogic II for music
DTS NEO:6 Music DTS NEO:6 for music
DTS NEO:6 Cinema DTS NEO:6 for movies
Some options may not be available if not all satellite
speakers are connected.
Dolby Digital and DTS (standard and HD)
Surround mode is required for playing back Dolby Digital
or DTS-encoded multichannel tracks so that this button is
disabled in the process.
“Sound control” menu
Mode
Dynamic comp.
Dynamic compensation regulates volume differences
between individual tracks on CDs or other digital audio
sources and ensures that playback is neither too loud nor
too quiet. Possible settings: On, Off.
Cinema EQ
This function reduces the percentage of high tones from
the original movie sound mix to perfectly adapt the sound
to the acoustics of a living room. Possible setting: On or
Off.
Sound
Here you can set the sound (high tones and bass tones).
Possible values: from –10 dB (decrease) to +10 dB (in-
crease).
Equalizer
This provides you with very fine sound control in nine
frequency ranges. You can set all channels in unison or
each channel separately (the two rear channels are only
available in 7.1 mode.) Possible values: each from –20 dB
(decrease) to +6 dB (increase).
The “Reset” menu item resets all frequency ranges for the
selected channel to zero (neutral).
Note: The equaliser is inactive for some high definition
formats.
“Level adjustment” menu
Here you can adjust the relative volume from “–10” (de-
crease) to “+10” (increase) for each speaker.
“Source level” menu
You can adjust the relative volume from “–10” (decrease)
to “+10” (increase) for each audio source here.
“Audio assignment” menu
Here you can define an audio input for each of the three
HDMI inputs.
Example: If you would like to connect a PC without HDMI
output. With a DVI to HDMI adapter, you transmit the
video signal while the audio signal is present at one of
the analogue inputs (Aux) via an RCA cable.
“LS configuration” menu
Lip Sync
Digital image processing in the television set requires
some time. In order to keep the image and sound
synchronous, television sets delay the sound by a few mil-
liseconds. Here you can set an audio delay of 0 to 100
ms for each of the HDMI and the other inputs for synchro-
nous subwoofer sound.
Crossover Frequency
This menu item offers numerous possibilities for adjusting
to the satellites.
Frequency
Here, you can select the values 80 Hz, 100 Hz,
120 Hz, 150 Hz, 180 Hz, 200 Hz, 220 Hz and
250 Hz, each with selectable slope steepness for
the subwoofer low-pass filter (-24 dB or -36 dB per
octave).
The 24-dB filter is suitable for closed satellite speaker
cases without additional internal high-pass filter.
Select the 36-dB filter for satellite speakers with bass-
reflex enclosure or internal 12-dB high-pass filter.
You can get more information about recommended
crossover frequency settings for the satellite speakers
in our web shop under the technical data section or in
the instruction manual of the speaker.
Following general rule applies here too: Do some
experimentation based on our recommendations to
find the audio settings that are ideal for you.
Phase Sub
This activates and deactivates the phase shift (180°)
for the subwoofer. Select the setting, with which the
subwoofer produces the loudest and clearest sound.

Distance
The surround sound effect may be disrupted if the speak-
ers are positioned at different distances to the listening
position. To compensate for these differences in run
time, you can set a slight signal delay for all channels.
Measure the difference from the listening position to the
speakers and enter these values in the menu.
“System configuration” menu
HDMI
CEC (Consumer Electronics Control)
If this function is activated (ON), CEC-compatible devices
are powered up and down by a control command via the
HDMI connection.
ARC (Audio Return Channel)
With a HDMI connection this channel offers a return
channel for audio data from television sets that support
this function. This allows the audio signal to be transmit-
ted from the television set to the subwoofer’s amplifier
without having to connect another cable. With the ARC
function activated, select the television audio with the
button 25 Coax 1.
Possible settings: OFF, ON.
Important!
Please note that many television sets only have
one HDMI input that supports the ARC function.
An activated CEC function is required for the ARC function.
Note: When the CEC-Function is activated, standby
power consumption is increased.
Standby mode
You can activate automatic activation and deactivation
with this:
Auto On The subwoofer turns on as soon as an au-
dio signal is detected at the analogue input
“Aux 1”. “Aux 1” is automatically selected
as an active source in the process.
Auto On/Off Same as above, but the subwoofer
switches to standby once no signal has
been present at the “Aux 1” input for a few
minutes.
Off Automatic activation/deactivation is not
activated.
Activation level
Here you can set the volume of your device when it is
turned on:
• last: The last volume set when powered off.
• fixed: You set the volume from -70 dB (low) to +10 dB
(very loud).
5.1/7.1
This allows you to switch between 5.1 and 7.1 mode and
set the function of the analogue output 11 “RC/Pre Out”
(also see “Analogue audio output” on page 10), which
you can connect to a stereo amplifier, active speakers or
a wireless transmission system. This makes it possible to
project sound into another room or to connect to the rear
speakers in 5.1/7.1 mode with a wireless transmission
system (such as the Teufel RearStation 4).
5.1+2ch Convert the 5.1 audio signal to two stereo
channels (2.0); volume is adjusted accord-
ing to master level.
5.1+2ch fix Same as before, but without volume adjust-
ment.
5.1+Surr 5.1 mode with emission of the effect chan-
nels (surround).
7.1 7.1 mode with emission of the rear chan-
nels (rear).
D/E
You can set the screen menu language this way. Possible
values: German, English
System Reset
This resets the device to the factory default.

Surround
With the button 44 “Mode” you can cycle through the
surround modes in this order:

Dolby Digital and DTS (standard and HD)
Surround mode is fixed for playback of Dolby Digital or
DTS-encoded multichannel tracks; thus this menu is disa-
bled for such audio streams.
Test tone
With this function you can monitor and set the level for
the speaker channels.
• Push the button 37 “Test”. A test sound (“pink noise”)
will be emitted on all speakers one after another.
• Using the set buttons 35 “+/–” you can set the volume
of the channel, which is currently active, from “–10” to
“+10”.
• Push the button 32 “Return” to stop the test sound.
We recommend using a Teufel sound-level meter, which
you can order on our website in the accessories section.
Channel level buttons
Here you can increase and decrease the relative volume
for each speaker, even during playback.
• Select the desired speaker by tipping the button 36
“Ch Sel” repeatedly.
Sub – Subwoofer
Left – Front left
Right – Front right
Center – Center
Sur. L – Surround left
Sur. R – Surround right
Rear L – Rear left
Rear R – Rear right
• You can now set the relative volume from “–10” to
“+10” with the set buttons 35 “Level +/–”.

Dimmer
You can adjust the brightness of the display panel
with the button 38 “Dimmer”. The display brightness is
adjusted every time you push the button: bright, medium,
dark, off.
Equalizer
As with the menu function (see page 16), this provides
you with ultra fine sound adjustment in nine frequency
ranges.
Possible values: each from –20 dB (decrease) to +6 dB
(increase).
• Push the button 42 “Equalizer”.
• Select the desired channel by pushing the button 42
“Equalizer” several times or by using the navigation
buttons 31 “ ▲/▼ ”
• Push the button 41 “•”.
• Select the desired frequency with the navigation but-
tons 31 “
◀/▶ ”and set the level from -20 dB (decrease)
to -20 dB (increase) with the buttons 31 “ ▲/▼ ”.
• Push the button 32 “Return” to exit the setting.
Note: The equaliser is inactive with some high-definition
formats.
Tone/LipSync
You can set the sound and the audio delay with the but-
ton 30 “Tone/LipSync”.
Adjusting the sound
By briefly tipping the button 30 “Tone/LipSync” you can
access the two sound adjustment areas in sequence: Bass
(low tones), Treble (high tones)
• You can now set the selected range from –10 dB to
+10 dB with the navigation buttons 31 “
▲/▼ ”.
• Push the button 32 “Return” to exit the setting.
Setting audio delay
Pushing and holding the button 30 “Tone/LipSync” for
more than one second allows you to set the value for the
audio delay (see the “Lip Sync” menu function on page
16) for the active input:
• The current value in milliseconds (ms) is shown in the
display panel and on the screen.
• With the buttons 31 “ ▲/▼ ” set the audio delay from 0
to 100 ms.
• Push the button 32 “Return” to exit the setting.
Direct
In direct mode, the audio signal is emitted without sound
adjustment.
• Briefly pushing the button 39 “Direct” displays the cur-
rent setting:
Direct OFF – Normal mode with sound adjustment
Direct Mode – Direct mode without sound adjustment
• Tipping the button 39 “Direct” again switches the
mode.
Info
Pushing the button 40 “Info” displays information on the
current audio signal on the screen and in the display pan-
el for approx. three seconds, e.g. “48KHz 2.1 Stereo”.
Sleep
You want to fall asleep in your comfortable home cin-
ema? This automatic sleep function will help by turning
the subwoofer off after a preset time (max. 60 minutes).
• Push the button 24 “Sleep” briefly to display the sleep
mode status:
“Sleep Mode OFF” – Function disabled.
“Timing xxmin” – Will be deactivated in xx minutes.
• With the navigation buttons 31 “
▲/▼ ”, select the
desired time for activating sleep mode from 15 to 60
minutes.
• Push the button 32 “Return” to exit the setting.
The system will power down automatically after the
preset time has elapsed.
