Application
The SLIM Heat interface unit is used to provide hot water in properties connected to a district heating system.

Operation
CAUTION!
Components, pipes in and connected to the unit may be
hot. The SLIM is designed for usage with centralized
heating systems up to 900C. The pipes and components
in the unit as well as the pipes and components outside
of the unit can reach these temperatures. Contact may
lead to burns.
The unit is equipped with a single wall plate heat exchanger. The heat exchanger transfers the heat from the
heat distribution system to the domestic hot water. The electronic controller in the unit, together with
electronic control valve, temperature sensors and flow sensor regulates the temperature of the hot water to
its setpoint 45-600C.
The unit has two DHW keep hot modes: Eco mode and Comfort mode (default). Default mode, settings, times
and temperatures can be modified by the installer (during commissioning) using the special service software.
Eco mode
The Eco mode allows the heat exchanger to cool down after the last hot water draw off to conserve energy. It
also has the option of keeping the heat exchanger hot for a limited period of time after the last hot water
draw off. This provides more comfort in situations where regular hot water is needed within a certain period
of time.
Comfort mode
In Comfort mode the heat exchanger and the DH supply pipe are always kept warm for instant hot water
delivery. When in Comfort mode the unit only uses energy to compensate for the heat losses of the DH supply
pipe and the isolated unit.
Legionella prevention
To prevent legionella from growing, the heat exchanger can be heated* every 24 hours for 1 hour. Default
setting is ON (active).
*NOTE: for a correct thermal disinfection a District Heating supply temperature of 60°C is recommended.
(minimal requirement is 55°C).
CAUTION! Hot water
The hot water temperature is regulated to approximately 550C (or other setpoint). If there is a power outage
during tapping conditions the unit will stop regulating the hot water temperature. This may lead to a hot water
temperature that is higher or lower than the setpoint. Hot water can cause burns.

General Plumbing Requirements
Keep following conditions in mind during installation:
•The unit can only be used with closed heating systems up to a temperature of 800C.
•The unit must be stored and installed in a frost free area.
•The unit must not be exposed to direct sunlight.
•Ambient temperature must be between +50C and +400C.
•Humidity must be between 20% and 80%.
•Temperatures of components in the unit and connected to the unit can reach high temperatures. Contact may
lead to burns.
Fitting and modifications
Fitting the appliance and any controls to the appliance may only be carried out by a competent engineer. Any
misuse or unauthorised modifications to the appliance or associated components and systems could invalidate
the guarantee and may lead to serious injury or even death. The manufacturer accepts no liability arising from
any such actions, excluding statutory rights.
District heating
CAUTION!
Components, pipes in and connected to the unit may be hot. The SLIM is designed for usage with centralized
heating systems up to 900C. The pipes and components in the set as well as the pipes and radiators in the
central heating installation can reach these temperatures. Contact may lead to burns.
Keep following conditions in mind during installation:
• Maximum pressure supplied by the district heating network is 16 bar.
•Maximum supplied temperature by the distict heating network is 900C.
•Minimal supply temperature is 550C.
Domestic water
Keep following condition in mind during installation:
• Maximum pressure supplied by the domestic water circuit is 10 bar.
• All seals, joints and compounds (including flux and solder) and components used as part of the secondary
domestic water system must be approved.
•It is highly recommended to fit a filter on the mains cold water line, to filter fine particles such as sand
from the cold water before it enters the heat exchanger. Blockages and malfunctions due to debris in the
water are not covered under the warranty.

General wiring requirements
These instructions must be followed except for any statutory obligations. Component specific electrical
information may also be supplied in support of these instructions.
FAILURE TO INSTALL APPLIANCES CORRECTLY COULD LEAD TO PROSECUTION.
CAUTION!
Be sure to remove the power supply to the unit before starting any work and observe all relevant safety
precautions. The unit uses electrical components (24VDC). These components must stay dry at all times.
Touching these components can result in an electrical shock, burn, or electrocution.

Mounting to a plywood wall:
Minimal plywood thickness must be 18
mm. Make sure that the back wall is at
least 50 mm wider than the unit to ensure
a proper support. Make sure the drill
markings are aligned and levelled. Drill
holes of Ø4 mm on the marked locations
40 mm deep. 2 holes are drilled for the
first fix rail and another 2 for the unit.
Mount the first fix rail firmly to the wall
using the enclosed screws.
Mounting to a concrete wall: Make
sure the wall is robust and of good quality.
Avoid hollow walls and make sure that the
screws are not placed in the flushings of a
brick wall. Drill holes of Ø10 mm on the
marked locations 60 mm deep. 2 holes are
drilled for the first fix rail and another 2 for
the unit. Mount the first fix rail firmly to
the wall using the enclosed screws and
plugs.

Commissioning
Follow the steps shown below to commission the unit. If leakage or other faults should occur, go to
chapter TROUBLESHOOTING.
1. Close all tapping valves in the residence.
2. Check all coupling nuts for leakage. (nuts may
become loose during transport)
3. Make sure the electronic cables are not obstructed.
4. Insert the power plug (B) into the power supply. The
LED should show a green blinking light (A).
5. Slowly open the DH supply valve (C) and check for
leakage.
6. Slowly open the DH return valve (D) and check for
leakage.
7. Slowly open a DHW valve in the residence. Check to
see if the units LED shows a blue blinking light (B).
Open the DHW valve completely when the system
is fully vented. Leave it running for approximately
5 minutes. Check if the DHW temperature has
reached its setpoint (default 550C) between 3 and 5
minutes.
8. Close the DHW valve in the residence. The LED will
now show a green blinking light (B).

or energized. Contact may lead to
shock, burn or electrocution.

Service and inspection
To ensure proper functioning of the unit, it is advised to periodically inspect the installment. Contact your heat
distribution company about the possibilities for service and inspection. Maintenance and repairs can be
performed by recognized personnel only.
• Remove the power from the unit when performing maintenance and/or repairs.
• Close the supply and return valve of the heat distribution network.
• Close the supply and return valve of the unit.
• Check the unit for dirt/leaks.
• Check valve for pollution and clean if necessary.
• Check the filter for pollution and clean if necessary.
• When recommissioned, check the unit for the delivery of hot tap water and central heating.
• The casing can be cleaned with a damp cloth. By no means use detergents of any kind.
CAUTION!
The unit uses electrical components (24VDC). These components must stay dry at all times. Please use caution
when handling these energized components. Touching these energized components can result in an electric
shock, burn, or electrocution.
Away or on holiday
Do not remove power from the unit. Do not switch of the unit during long absence or holiday. To prevent damage
from frost in the piping of the unit or the distribution network one must, under no circumstances, close the
shut-off valves of the unit and/or the distribution network. It is recommended to flush all water tapping points
for at least 2 minutes after a long period of absence.

What can you do?
CAUTION! Always take into account the safety of yourself and others when performing a troubleshoot.
In case of leakage:
1. Close all valves connected to the unit.
2. Contact your installer.
Tap water does not warm up:
1. Check if the valves connected to the unit are open (levers are in the vertical position) and if the main
domestic water valve is open. If not, open the valves.
2. Check if the unit is connected to the power supply.
3. If the problem persists, contact your installer.
No domestic hot water:
1. Check if the main valve is open. If not, open the main valve.
2. If the problem persists, contact your installer.

Dispose product properly according to local legislation.

Guarantees and After Sales
GUARANTEES
HIUs carry the following guarantees as standard:
FACTORY WARRANTY
12 Months Parts and labour - Parts or labour proven to be defective will be replaced / repaired free of charge for a period of 12
months from date of purchase, provided the HIU is installed by a qualified engineer within 6 months of date of purchase.
24 Months Parts Only - Parts proven to be defective will be supplied free of charge (for fitting by others) for a period of 24 months
from date of purchase.
(Replacement of parts under warranty does not extend the duration of the warranty)
Any other costs are not covered by this warranty. All other damages of any nature whatsoever and howsoever arising, are expressly
excluded from this guarantee.
The warranty conditions above only apply:
In the UK only on items provided exclusively by Thermal Integration.
If the product is installed by a Thermal Integration approved engineer in compliance with the installation instructions.
If the installation complies with all current and relevant building regulations and codes of practice.
If the product is used and maintained exclusively according to the manufacturer's instructions and proof of periodic
inspection /maintenance by a Thermal Integration approved engineer is available.
If the returned item is accompanied by a fully completed Thermal Integration Warranty Return Form.
Excluded are defects caused by:
Failure to maintain in accordance with manufacturers instructions
Improper use
Any attempt at repairs / maintenance by un-qualified persons
Lightning, fire or natural disasters.
Deterioration and / or pollution from the district heating system or water network, either domestic hot water or heating side.
PH values of the primary medium being less than 7.5 or greater than 9.0.
Harmful additives to the heating water.
Report any faults to your installer, service engineer or Thermal Integration directly. Faulty parts must be accompanied by a fully
completed Thermal Integration Warranty Return form, to be returned to Thermal Integration. Returned items remain the property
of Thermal Integration Ltd.
The Thermal Integration Warranty Return Form can be found in the manual and on www.heatweb.com. Returns are not accepted
unless expressly agreed in writing.
Transport risk of returned items lies with the sender. The shipping of replacement parts are the responsibility of the supplier.
COMMISSIONING
Thermal Integration offer commissioning services across the UK. The service includes:
The fulfillment of the defined commissioning instructions
Completion and return of site wide commissioning paperwork
Rectification of any HIU problems
Confirmation of HIU performance to contract specifications
Engineer travel and subsistence
Commissioning rates are charged on a whole day basis, and it is the responsibility of the client to ensure:
Safe access to properties and HIUs
Correct operation of central plant with delivery of heat to HIUs at specified temperatures,
flow and pressures
All pipework has been correctly tested and flushed
Credit on billing system to enable security valve
A minimum 2 weeks notice is required in writing to Thermal Integration before the requested commissioning date.
