King uni , bu a few minu es s udying his manual will be ime well spen .
Performing pre- rip checks and enrou e inspec ions on a regular basis will
minimize opera ing problems. A regular main enance program will also help
o keep your uni in op opera ing condi ion. If fac ory recommended
procedures are followed, you will find ha you have purchased he mos
efficien and dependable empera ure con rol sys em available.
All service requiremen s, major and minor, should be handled by a Thermo
King dealer for four very impor an reasons:

service func ions.

Thermo King recommends all services be performed by a Thermo King

while he ruck is being refueled. Fuel vapors could igni e if hey come in

Keep your hands, clo hing, and ools clear of moving par s when he uni is
opera ing or vehicle’s engine is running. Loose clo hing can become
en angled in moving par s, causing serious injury or possible dea h.

Always wear goggles or safe y glasses when working wi h or around he
refrigera ion sys em or ba ery. Refrigeran or ba ery acid can cause
permanen damage if i comes in con ac wi h your eyes.

Never drill holes in o he uni unless ins ruc ed by Thermo King. Holes
drilled in o high vol age cables could cause an elec rical fire, severe
personal injury, or even dea h.

Exposed coil fins can cause lacera ions. Service work on he evapora or or
condenser coils should only be accomplished by a cer ified Thermo King
echnician.

Observe he following when working wi h or around refrigeran oil.

Pro ec your eyes from con ac wi h refrigeran oil. The oil can cause serious
eye injuries. Pro ec skin and clo hing from prolonged or repea ed con ac
wi h refrigeran oil. To preven irri a ion, wash your hands and clo hing
horoughly af er handling he oil. Rubber gloves are recommended. When
working wi h or around hazardous chemicals, ALWAYS refer o he
applicable Ma erial Da a Safe y Shee s (MSDS) and OSHA/GHS (Global
Harmonized Sys em of Classifica ion and Labelling of Chemicals) guidelines
for informa ion on allowable personal exposure levels, proper respira ory
pro ec ion, and handling ins ruc ions.

EELLEECCTTRRIICCAALL SSHHOOCCKK
Take IMMEDIATE ac ion af er a person has received an elec rical shock. Ge
quick medical assis ance, if possible.
The source of he shock mus be quickly s opped, by ei her shu ing off he
power or removing he vic im. If he power canno be shu off, he wire
should be cu wi h an non-conduc ive ool, such as a wood-handle axe or
hickly insula ed cable cu ers. Rescuers should wear insula ed gloves and
safe y glasses, and avoid looking a wires being cu . The ensuing flash can
cause burns and blindness.
If he vic im mus be removed from a live circui , pull he vic im away wi h a
non-conduc ive ma erial. Use wood, rope, a bel or coa o pull or push he
vic im away from he curren . DO NOT TOUCH he vic im. You will receive a
shock from curren flowing hrough he vic im’s body. Af er separa ing he
vic im from power source, immedia ely check for signs of a pulse and
respira ion. If no pulse is presen , s ar Cardio Pulmonary Resusci a ion
(CPR). If a pulse is presen , respira ion migh be res ored by using mou h- o-
mou h resusci a ion. Call for emergency medical assis ance.
AASSPPHHYYXXIIAATTIIOONN

Battery Installation and Cable Routing

Unit Description
The TriPac 3 APU provides auxiliary hea ing, cooling empera ure
managemen ha allows drivers o reduce unnecessary ruck engine idling,
which helps lower fuel consump ion. The simple o use digi al con roller
provides drivers grea er con rol over heir comfor and APU opera ions wi h
large cabin empera ure readings, func ion icons, and oggling menus.
The available Telema ics op ion provides he da a needed o have a clear line
of sigh o he uni ’s run hours, cabin empera ures, and fuel ax repor ing.
Real- ime sof ware upda es, alarms, and main enance reminders help
ensure he APU runs smoo hly.

APU
The TriPac 3 APU is moun ed on o he side of he rac or’s frame rails and
con ains he diesel engine, air condi ioning compressor, al erna or, con rol
box wi h fuses, and a engine On/Off swi ch.

Immedia ely s and clear when he prehea buzzer sounds. This indica es
ha he engine is prehea ing. If he engine is ho , prehea ime will only be a
few seconds.
The APU Engine On/Off Swi ch is loca ed inside he TriPac 3 APU housing on
he lower righ side of he frame. The Engine On/Off Swi ch func ions as a
service swi ch o allow main enance personnel o preven he APU engine
from s ar ing when working on he uni . The swi ch is normally in he ON
posi ion o allow he TriPac sys em o opera e. When he Engine On/Off
Swi ch is placed in he Off posi ion , i will no only preven he engine from
s ar ing, bu disable ALL ou pu s in he sys em (fans, AC clu ch, e c.) from
powering on.

A/C Condenser
The air condi ioning condenser is ypically moun ed on he back of he ruck
cab.

A/C Evaporator
The air condi ioning evapora or is ypically ins alled under he bunk in he
ruck cab sleeper compar men . Air duc s from he evapora or carry
condi ioned air o he sleeper compar men . The evapora or has a air fil er
ha can easily removed for cleaning.
NNoottee:: Depending on the installation, the MAC (Main Application Controller)
may also be attached to the top of the evaporator as shown.

The MAC (Main Applica ion Con roller) is ypically ins alled on op of he

receives inpu from he HMI o opera e he TriPac. Fuses for he sys em
componen s are loca ed a one end of he MAC.
