To switch your Tom Tom ONE XL' Son or off,
press and hold the On/Off
button for 2
seconds. The first
time you switch on, it may
take up to 20 seconds to start.
Note: In rare cases, your ONE XL'S may not start
correctly.
If this happens, press the reset button, then
switch on the device again.
To set up your TomTom ONE XL'S you need
to answer a
few questions by tapping the
screen.
Important: Take care to select the correct
language, since the language
you choose will
be used for all menus and written instructions.
The Driving View is
shown in black and white
until your ONE XL' Slocates your current
position.
The
buttons on your ONE XL' Sare shown in
full
color unless abutton is currently
unavailable. For example, the
button named
Find
alternative ... in the Main Menu is not
available until you have planned aroute.

Before You Start ...
For information on connecting your computer,
see Using TomTom HOME on page 9.
When you attach your ONE XL' S to a
computer using aUSB cable, you are asked if
you wish to connect to the
computer. If you
select No, the device will switch off if you do
not tap the screen for three minutes. This
happens so that the battery can recharge at a
faster rate.
For
information on connecting your computer,
see Using TomTom HOME on page 9.
Note: Your TomTom ONE XL'S uses a small amount
of battery power to remember the last screen being
shown when the device IS switched off.
If you do not charge your ONE XL'S for a prolonged
period of time, the next time you start your
ONE XL'S It will show the default starting screen. All
other device settings will stili be maintained.
If your TomTom ONE XL'S takes longer than
5minutes to find
your current position, make
sure that the device is in an
open space away
from tall objects such as buildings or trees.
When
you connect your TomTom ONE XL'S
to your computer, you can use TomTom
HOME to download information about GPS
satellite positions during the next 7days. This
helps
your TomTom to find your position
faster.

Before You Start ...
The windshield mount is used to install your
TomTom ONE XL·S inside your car. For
information on attaching the mount to your
windshield, refer to the installation poster.
Never leave your TomTom ONE XL·S or
accessories in view when you leave the car or
they may become an easy target for thieves.
You can set a password for your
TomTom ONE XL·S which must be entered
every time you start your ONE XL· S. For more
information, see Using TomTom HOME on
page
9.
Tap the center of the screen at any time to
open the Main Menu.
Note: The Drlvmg View IS shown m black and white
untl! your ONE XL· Slocates your current position.
ATap +and - to zoom in and out.
S Your current position.
CThe name of the next major road or road
sign information, if applicable.
D Navigation instruction for the road ahead.
Tap this area
to repeat the last spoken
instruction and to change the volume.
EThe name of the next street to turn on to.

To select what will be shown, tap Status
bar preferences in the Preferences menu.

It is
important to take care of your ONE XL· S.
• Your ONE XL·S is not designed for use in
extreme temperatures and any such
exposure may cause permanent damage.
•Do not open the casing of your ONE XL· S
under any circumstances. DOll1g so may be
dangerous and will invalidate the warranty.
• Wipe or dry the screen of your ONE XL· S
using a soft cloth. Do not use any liquid
cleaners.
When your TomTom ONE XL· Sstarts, you are
shown the Driving View along with detailed
information about your current location.

Making your first trip
Planning aroute with your
TomTom ONE XL0Sis easy. To plan your first
route,
follow the steps below.
Important: You should always plan your trip
before you start driving. It
is dangerous to plan
aroute
while driving.
1. Tap the screen to bring up the main menu.
2. Tap Navigate to ...
For your first trip, we will navigate to an
address.
Note: When planning a trip for the first time your
ONE XL oS will prompt you to choose acountry. Your
choice is saved
and used for all your route plans.
You can change this setting at any time by tapping
the country flag.

you enter an address, you can

o City center -tap this button to set your
destination as the center of a city or
town.
o Street and house number -tap this
button to set an exact address as your
destination.
oZip code -tap this button to enter aZip

button to set your destination as the
point where two streets meet.

TomTom HOME is afree software program for
your computer that enables you to:
•Manage maps, voices, POls and more.
•Buy
TomTom services and manage your
subscriptions.
•Make and restore backups.
•Update
your TomTom with the latest
software and services automatically.
•Read the full version
of the user manual.
•Set apassword to restrict access.
Install
TomTom HOME on your computer in
the
following way.
•Connect
your computer to the Internet and
then
connect your TomTom ONE XL·S to
your computer using the USB cable.
A
pop-up window appears. Select Run
TomTom HOME. Click OK and follow the
on-screen instructions.
If the
pop-up window does not appear,
browse to the TomTom device on your
computer and run the file named Install
TomTom HOME.
•
TomTom HOME is also available for
download from the TomTom Web site.
For
more information visit

Once installed, TomTom HOME will start
automatically
whenever you connect your
TomTom to your computer.

Using TomTom HOME
In the TomTom HOME Help topics you can
find all kinds
of tips and tricks on how to use
TomTom HOME.
In order to buy content and services through
TomTom HOME you will have to set up a
MyTomTom account for the device you want
to buy the content for. You will be asked to
create an
account when you start using
TomTom HOME.

Help me! provides an easy way for you to find
and contact emergency services centers and
other specialist services.
For
example, if you are involved in acar
accident, you could use Help me! to call the
nearest hospital and tell them your exact
location.
Help me! also includes a selection of useful
documents covering topics such as First Aid
and car maintenance.
Take a look at the safety preferences. These
will help you enjoy using your ONE XL· S
while you concentrate on driving safely.
We strongly recommend that you consider
using the Safety preferences which can be
found in the Preferences menu.

Map corrections is a new feature that allows
you to make alterations to the map data on
your ONE XL·S.
• Change the traffic direction of a one-way
street.
•
Add or change a street name.
•
Add or change a Point of Interest in a
category.
You can also join the community of TomTom
users to share and use map corrections.
