Toshiba Satellite L775, L775D, L770,
L770D disassembly.
STEP 1
First of all turn off the laptop and unplug the AC adapter.
Unlock and remove the laptop battery.
STEP 2
Loosen two screws securing the memory cover and hard drive
cover.
Lift up and remove both covers.
STEP 3
Under the memory cover you'll find two memory modules. I
will leave both memory modules connected to the
motherboard.

Toshiba Satellite L775, L775D, L770, L770D will take up to 8GB
RAM total. You can install up to 4GB RAM module into each
slot.
The CMOS battery also accessible under the memory cover. It's
a regular coin battery. Model CR2032.
STEP 4
Remove one screw securing the DVD drive.
Pull the DVD drive to the left to disconnect it from the
connector board.
Remove the DVD drive.
STEP 5
Slide the hard drive to the left to disconnect it from the
motherboard.
Lift up and remove the hard drive.
Toshiba Satellite L775, L775D, L770, L770D laptop has a
regular 2.5" SATA hard drive installed. It can be replaced with
a larger capacity 2.5" SATA hard drive or SSD (solid state
drive).
STEP 6
Carefully lift up the right side of the keyboard bezel with a
small flat head screwdriver.
Continue removing the bezel with your fingers.
STEP 7
Remove four screws securing the keyboard on the top.

STEP 8
Carefully lift up the upper side of the keyboard and turn it
upside down on the palmrest.
STEP 9
Now you can access the keyboard cable connector.
In order to release the cable you'll have to unlock the
connector first.
In the following two steps I show how to unlock the connector
and release the cable.
STEP 10
The keyboard connector has a white retainer.
You'll have to lift up the left side of the retainer with your
fingernail. Do not apply much force. The retainer opens up at a
90 degree angle.
The retainer must remain attached to the connector base.
STEP 11
After the connector is unlocked you can pull the keyboard
cable.

STEP 12
Remove the keyboard.
STEP 13
Remove all screws from the bottom of the laptop.
STEP 14
Remove four screws securing the palmrest assembly.
Disconnect the speaker cable (left arrow) and touchpad cable
(right arrow).
STEP 15
You unlock the touchpad connector the same way you unlocked
the keyboard connector in the step 12.

STEP 16
After the connect is unlocked you can pull the touchpad cable.
STEP 17
Unplug the speaker cable from the motherboard.
STEP 18
Now start separating the palmrest assembly from the laptop
base.
I'm using the guitar pick for that. You can use a piece of soft
plastic.
Insert the guitar pick between the palmrest assembly and
bottom cover and move it along the side until latches are
unlocked.
STEP 19
Continue removing the palmrest assembly with your fingers.
STEP 20
Remove the palmrest assembly.

STEP 21
On the other side of the palmrest assembly you can access
both speakers and touchpad.
NOTE: the left and right button board is not a part of the
touchpad. We'll be removing the button board later.
STEP 22
Here's the laptop with the palmrest assembly removed. Under
the palmrest you can get access to the following internal
components:
- DC power jack harness.
- Power button board.
- Cooling fan.
- Wireless card.
- DVD drive connector board.
- USB board.
- Touchpad button board.
- Motherboard.
STEP 23
In order to remove the display assembly you'll have to do the
following:
1. Unplug the video cable from the motherboard. Unroute the
cable.
2. Disconnect both antenna cables from the wireless card.
Unroute both antennas.
3. Remove four screws securing the display hinges to the
laptop bottom case.

STEP 24
After that you should be able to lift up and remove the display
assembly.
In the next guide I'll explain how to remove and replace the
LCD screen on a Toshiba Satellite L775, L775D, L770, L770D
laptops.
STEP 25
The power button is located on a separate board.
In order to remove the power button board you'll have to
disconnect the cable from the motherboard.
After that push on the plastic latch on the left and at the same
time slide the board to the left.
STEP 26
In order to remove the cooling fan you'll have to remove two
screw securing the fan and unplug the fan cable from the
motherboard.
STEP 27
After that you should be able to lift up and remove the cooling
fan from the laptop.
STEP 28
The DC power jack harness mounted in the upper left corner.

If the DC jack went bad, simply disconnect the failed harness
and replace with a new DC jack harness.
STEP 29
As I mentioned before the touchpad button board is not a part
of the touchpad.
In order to remove the touchpad button board you'll have to
disconnect the cable from the motherboard and remove one
screw.
STEP 30
The DVD drive connector board and USB board mounted in the
lower right corner of the laptop.
