Thank you for buying an Urban Cruiser. We trust this Brief Guide will enable you to become
familiar with your vehicle’s basic operations and assist you in enjoying your vehicle.
This brief guide does not replace or substitute the Owner’s Manual, which you will find in the
vehicle’s glove compartment. t is important that you review the full Owner’s Manual as well as
any further supplementary manuals as this will allow you to familiarise yourself with the
operating and safety instructions and to handle the vehicle within its limitations.
Please do read all documents in your pack as this will ensure you get maximum performance
from your car and learn about related services offered.

Smart entry & Start system
The following operations can be performed simply by
carrying the electronic key on your person.
(The driver should always carry the electronic key.)
1. Unlocks and locks the doors.
2. Unlock and locks the back door.
3. Start and stop the engine.

Child restraint systems are classified into the following 5 groups according to the regulation ECE No. 44:
Group 0: Up to 10 kg or 22lbs (0-9 months)
Group : 9-18 kg or 20-40lbs (9 months-4 years)
Group : 22-36 kg or 48-79lbs(6 years-12 years)
Group 0+: Up to 13 kg or 29lbs (0-2 years)
Group : 15-25 kg or 33-55lbs (4 years -7 years)
(A) Baby seat

Ch ld rear door protect on lock
The door cannot be opened from inside the vehicle
when the locks are set.
1. Unlock
2. Lock
These locks can be set to prevent children from
opening the rear doors. Push down the rear door
switches to lock the rear doors.
Unlocking and locking the doors (front door handles only)
Grip the handle to unlock.
Make sure to touch the sensor on the back of the
handle.
Press the button to lock.
The doors cannot be unlocked for 3 seconds after they are locked.

Seat and seat belt adjustment
Front seats
1. Seatback angle adjustment lever.
2. Seat position adjustment lever.
3. Vertical height adjustment lever (driver’s side).
Seat belts
1. To fasten the seat belt push the tab into the buckle
until it clicks.
2. Press the release button to unfasten the seat belt.
Adjust the height up and down as required.
1. Down
Pull the lock release knob and slide the height
adjuster down.
2. Up
Move the height adjuster up as needed until you
hear a click.
Head restraint height adjustment
1. Up
Pull the head restraints up.
2. Down
Push the head restraint down while pressing the
lock release button.

Steer ng wheel adjustment
After adjustment, pull the lever up to secure the
steering wheel.
Rear centre seat belts
Make sure that the buckle (1) is securely latched for
ready use of the centre seat belt.
1. nsert the tab with the hooked end.
2. nsert the tab with the concave end.
Hold the steering wheel and press the lever down.
Adjust the position by moving the steering wheel
horizontaly and vertically.

The following gauges, meters and displays illuminate when the engine switch is in the ‘‘ON’’ position.
Vehicles with smart entry & start system
The following gauges, meters and displays illuminate when the ‘‘ENG NE START STOP’’ switch is in the GN T ON
ON mode.

Instrument cluster light control
The units used on the speedometer, tachometer and some indicators may differ depending on the target region.
To adjust the brightness of the instrument cluster
lights, push the switch.
1. Darker.
2. Brighter.
Odometer/trip meter display.
Trip nformation - displays driving range, fuel
consumption and other cruising-related information.
Outside temperature display - indicates the outside
temperature.
Display items can be switched by pressing the
“MODE” button.

Main Warning lights*
Warning lights inform the driver of malfunctions in any of the vehicle’s systems.
*1These lights turn on when the engine switch is turned to the ‘‘ON’’ position (without smart entry & start
system) or the ‘‘ENG NE START STOP’’ switch is turned to the GN T ON ON mode (with smart entry & start
system). They will turn off after the engine is started.
There may be a malfunction if a light does not come on, or if the lights do not turn off. Have the vehicle
inspected by your Toyota dealer.

Main Indicators*
The indicators inform the driver of the operating state of the vehicle’s main systems.
L ghts
The headlights can be operated manually
The front position, tail, license plate lights turn on.
The headlights and all lights listed above turn on,
normal driving.
Turning on the high beam headlights
1. With the headlights on, push the lever away to
turn on the high beams.
Pull the lever back to the centre position to turn
the high beams off.
2. You can flash the high beams with the headlights
on or off by pulling the lever towards you, and
releasing it to turn them off.

When the rear window is dry do not use the
wipers, as they may damage the rear window.
The electric windows can be opened and closed as follows:

Light: Red: No start/Green: Engine start.
For details of restrictions and operating conditions, please read carefully
Chapter 2-4 in you Owner’s Manual.
For vehicles without smart entry key positions are as
follows:
1. Lock:- The steering wheel is locked and the key can be removed.
2. ACC:- Some electrical equipment such as audio can be used.
3. On:- All electrical equipment can be used.
4. Start:- Starts the engine.
For vehicles with smart entry :
1. The driver should carry the key on his person.
2. The Engine Start Stop button is used to start the vehicle.
Starting procedure:
Ensure hand brake is applied.
Put gear lever to the neutral position.
Press and hold the clutch pedal firmly.
Press the “ENG NE START STOP” switch.
Start the engine.
NB For diesel vehicles:
The engine should not
be started until
the indicator
light goes out.
Stop & Start system ( f equ pped)
This vehicle is fitted with a “Stop & Start” function that allows the automatic stopping and starting of the engine.
This function helps you to decrease the fuel consumption.
Stopping the engine
First put the shift lever in the neutral position when stationary, and release
the clutch pedal. The engine will then stop. Next with the engine stopped,
if the clutch pedal is pressed, the engine will start again.
The “ECO” indicator will light up in the instrument cluster when the engine
has stopped.
A buzzer will sound as a warning when the following operations are done:
1. The shift is put into a gear position without the clutch pedal being
pressed when the engine is stopped.
2. The driver’s door is opened when the engine has stopped temporarily.
Restarting the engine
Check that the shift lever is in “N” and depress the clutch pedal, the engine
will re-start and the “ECO OFF” indicator will come on but when the vehicle
starts moving, it will go off.
f you should want to disable the system, press “ECO OFF” switch.

Gear change
Four-wheel dr ve lock (4WD models)

The shift pattern is as shown.

Fully depress the clutch pedal before operating the
gear lever, and then release it slowly, once a gear is
selected.
Gear lever for ‘‘R’’ (Reverse)
Lift up the ring and shift lever to the ‘‘R’’ position.

Four-wheel drive lock mode can be used when a large amount of drive power needs to be
applied to all the wheels, such as when the vehicle gets stuck in mud and you need to free
it.

The torque of the engine is distributed to the rear
wheels to the maximum extent possible in accordance
with driving conditions.
Four -wheel drive lock mode can be
operated when the engine switch is on.
Four -wheel drive lock mode
Four -wheel drive lock mode is cancelled when the
brakes are applied to ensure the ABS and VSC system
operate effectively.
Four -wheel drive lock mode is cancelled when the
vehicle speed exceeds 25 mph.

Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position and
ensure that all the doors and windows are closed.
Vehicles with smart entry & start system
Turn the “ENG NE START STOP” switch OFF and
ensure that all the doors and windows are closed.
Opening the fuel tank cap
Press the fuel filler door opener switch.
Turn the fuel tank cap slowly to open.
Hang the fuel tank cap on the back of the fuel filler
door.
Take care to select the correct fuel.
Release the lock from the inside of the vehicle to open
the bonnet.
1. Pull the bonnet release lever.
The bonnet will pop up slightly.
Release the bonnet catch and lift the bonnet.
Hold the bonnet open by inserting the supporting
rod into the slot.
Close: gently drop the bonnet from approximately
200mm.
Caution :
Be careful when you pick up the rod, it might
be hot.
