TRANSCEND EZEX INTRODUCTION
Thank you for choosing Transcend EZEX, the first obstructive sleep apnea therapy
device designed to fit your active lifestyle. This device features EZEX pressure relief
technology to reduce therapy pressure on exhalation for more comfort during sleep. Weighing less than
a pound (426 g) Transcend EZEX is the most innovative small, light and portable CPAP, truly giving you
the freedom to sleep anywhere.
Begin by inspecting all items shipped to you. Please report any damaged or missing items to the home
healthcare provider where you obtained your device.

PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING A COMPUTER
WITH TRANSCEND
The following precautions are cited for the safety of the patient and/or the person operating the
computer as required to meet IEC 60601-1-1 safety regulations.
Definitions A computer compliant with 60950-1 safety standards is one that complies with UL 60950-1
or IEC 60950-1 safety standards.
• Do not plug any devices into the Transcend USB port other than a computer that is compliant
with 60950-1 safety standards. Attaching any other device to the Transcend USB port may
damage Transcend and may not be safe for the user.
• In order to reduce the risk of leakage currents, use an isolation transformer which is IEC
60601-1 approved to power your computer.
• Do not plug your computer compliant with 60950-1 safety standards or your Transcend into a
multiple portable socket outlet (i.e. power strip).
• When using your computer compliant with 60950-1 safety standards, follow the
manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.
• When using your computer compliant with 60950-1 safety standards, follow the
manufacturer’s instructions for conducting preventative maintenance.
• Do not attach Transcend USB port to your computer compliant with 60950-1 safety standards
during preventative maintenance of your computer.
• Do not touch your computer compliant with 60950-1 safety standards and any exposed
metal on Transcend or on Transcend cables at the same time.
• Do not touch exposed metal on your computer compliant with 60950-1 safety standards or
exposed metal on connectors or cables
• For clinicians, do not simultaneously touch the computer compliant with 60950-1 safety
standards and the patient.
• Do not use computers that have internal voltages that are accessible without the use of tools
in order to gain access to such voltages.

WARNINGS
• Do not allow water to enter this device. Transcend EZEX should not be exposed to environmental
conditions where the system may get wet.
• This device is not intended for life support.
• The Transcend EZEX must be set up and adjusted by a trained provider before being used for
therapy ramp and pressure.
• The air temperature produced by this device can be as much as 10ºF higher than the temperature
of the room. Exercise caution if the room temperature is warmer than 90ºF (32ºC).
• Do not block or otherwise obstruct the exhalation ports of the interface. Follow the manufacturer’s
instructions included with your interface.
• This equipment is not suitable for use with oxygen or in the presence of a flammable anesthetic
mixture with air or oxygen, or with nitrous oxide.
• The Transcend EZEX is only to be used with the supplied or recommended accessories. Use of
accessories not recommended may result in increased electromagnetic emissions or decreased
electromagnetic immunity of the PAP system and may be potentially unsafe.
• The Transcend EZEX is not defibrillation proof.
• Do not attempt to sterilize Transcend EZEX.
• If the device is to be used by multiple patients a main flow bacteria filter should be installed in-line
between the device and the breathing circuit tubing to prevent contamination.
• The device should be used only with masks and connectors recommended by Somnetics or a
health care professional. A mask should not be used unless the device is turned on and is
properly delivering ramp or therapy pressure. The exhalation port(s) associated with the mask
should never be blocked. Explanation of the Warning: The device is intended to be used with
masks or connectors specifically designed to have exhalation ports to allow continuous flow of air
out of the mask. When the device is turned on and functioning properly air flow from the device
flushes the exhaled air out through the mask exhalation port. When the device is not operating,
however, fresh air will not be provided through the mask and exhaled air may be rebreathed.
Rebreathing of exhaled air for longer than several minutes can, in some circumstances, lead to
suffocation.
• Unplug the Transcend EZEX before cleaning.
• Do not submerge the Transcend EZEX or power supply in liquid.
• Prevent water from entering any openings of the device.
• Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents to clean the device or any components.
• Do not attempt to sterilize the Transcend EZEX.
• Do not place cleaning materials, such as a cloth or liquid, into the device air inlet or air outlet
connector.
• The air supply tubing, mask assembly, headgear, and bacterial/viral filters should be discarded
after each patient use using standard institutional biohazard procedures. No attempt should be
made to clean, disinfect, or sterilize these components for multiple users. These components are
for single patient use. No attempt should be made to clean, disinfect or sterilize these
components. Manufacturer’s instructions must be followed with regard to cleaning, disinfecting,
and re-use of patient interfaces (masks).

• Only use bacterial/viral filters that are commercially available and designed for use with CPAP
machines. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use of the filter. Only use those commercially
available filters that do not require recalibration of the PAP device.
• Do not submerge the Transcend EZEX or power supply in liquid. Do not allow liquid or cleaning
solution to enter the device.
• Strangulation hazard from power cord and air tube. These can become wrapped around a neck and
STRANGLE. Keep power cord and air tube more than 3 feet from a baby’s crib and out of baby’s reach. Keep
cord and tube out of children’s reach.
• Small parts are unlikely to be expelled from the Transcend enclosure, but in case of severe damage internal
components may fragment and create a swallowing or choking hazard if they get out of the enclosure.
CAUTIONS
• Federal law (United States) restricts this device to sale by, or on the order of, a physician.
• Power the Transcend EZEX only with the Somnetics-supplied power supplies, mobile power
adapter, or batteries. See Appendix: Part Numbers.
• Discontinue use of the Transcend EZEX and contact your physician if respiratory or skin irritations
occur.
• Do not introduce objects into the Transcend EZEX air inlet or air outlet.
• Inspect the power supply for signs of wear or damage before each use. Replace the power cord if
necessary.
• Somnetics recommends replacing the air delivery tubing (hose) after every three months of use.
• To protect the environment, some parts and accessories of the Transcend EZEX, including optional
batteries, must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
• Transcend EZEXmatically converts voltage, but may require a plug adaptor for use in another
country. It is recommended you use the interchangeable plug adaptors supplied with the
Transcend power supply. Use only the Somnetics-supplied Universal Power Supplies and
accessories.
• Do not use a power converter or voltage transformer with the PSA2 Universal Power Supply.

ASSEMBLING YOUR TRANSCEND EZEX
To completely assemble the Transcend EZEX Sleep Apnea Therapy System:
1. Attach the Universal Hose Adaptor to the 6-foot air supply tube then connect the universal hose adaptor to
the Transcend EZEX making sure it is fully seated into the CPAP.
2. Connect the interface (mask) to the patient (open) end of the 6-foot hose.
3. Plug the power supply barrel connector into the CPAP with the cord pointed up.
4. Connect the power supply to a power source.

Note: Your Transcend EZEX can also be powered by the optional
Transcend Mobile Power Adaptor or Transcend Battery.
Note: When power is supplied to the CPAP, the yellow light will
flash once followed by three quick flashes of the green LED
light. This sequence indicated power is being supplied to the
device and that it has successfully entered Standby mode.
Note: Do not use a power converter with your Transcend as it
may damage the device. Transcend automatically converts
voltage.

TO CHANGE THE PLUG ADAPTOR ON THE
MULTI-PLUG UNIVERSAL POWER SUPPLY:
1. Depress the button on the power supply and rotate the plug adaptor counterclockwise to
unlock.
2. Line up the new plug adaptor into the power supply and turn clockwise until the plug snaps
into place.

Using the Ramp Function
Ramp settings will be programmed by your healthcare provider as prescribed.
1. Initiate ramp by pressing the Ramp (top) button after the Power button has been pressed.
Note: The Ramp button on the Transcend EZEX will not work unless your healthcare provider has
preset the ramp function.
2. Pressure from the device will be lowered to a preset starting pressure and will gradually increase
over a preset time interval until the device reaches your prescribed starting therapy pressure.
3. To accelerate the ramp time, hold down the Ramp button. The device will quickly increase
pressure until reaching your prescribed therapy pressure.
Ending Therapy
To end therapy, press the Power button to return the device to Standby mode.

and is in Standby mode.
3. Put on your mask and make
sure that proper fit is achieved.
4. Press the lower, gray Power button ( ) to turn on Transcend EZEX and enter Therapy mode. Air flow will
begin as the blower delivers your prescribed therapy pressure.

CARING FOR YOUR TRANSCEND EZEX AND COMPONENTS
Drying Mode
Drying mode should be used daily to dry the inside of your Transcend EZEX after use.
Caution: Do not attempt to use Transcend EZEX while in Drying mode. The device will not provide prescribed
therapy pressure while in Drying mode.
1. Set the device on a dry, stable surface. A cloth surface is not recommended as it may get soiled.
2. Make sure the device is in Standby mode.
3. To enable Drying mode, press and hold the Ramp button and then press the Power button.
4. Low pressure airflow will begin and last for 30 minutes until the drying sequence is completed. The device will
then return to Standby mode. To end drying mode before the 30 minute sequence is completed, press the Power
button. The device will return to Standby mode.
Caution: Drying mode will dry the inside of your Transcend EZEX. Do not attempt to clean the inside of the
device.
Cleaning the Exterior
Clean the exterior of your Transcend EZEX device as needed. To clean, wipe the surface with a lint-free cloth or paper
towel that has been dampened in water containing mild dishwashing detergent*. Following cleaning, wipe again with a
cloth or paper towel moistened with clear water. Allow to dry.
Caution: Never submerge Transcend EZEX in water. Do not allow soap or water to enter the device.
Cleaning the Transcend EZEX Components
The interface (mask) should be washed weekly. The air supply tube (hose) should be
washed daily.
1. Completely disconnect the components.
2. Hand wash in warm water with a mild dishwashing detergent*.
3. Rinse thoroughly.
4. Allow to air dry. Components should be completely dry before reconnecting.
5. Reconnect the components and reattach to Transcend.
Caution: Do not put any Transcend EZEX components in the dishwasher or laundry machine.
* A solution of 5% mild liquid detergent in distilled water (1.6 fl oz liquid detergent per quart of distilled
water) is recommended.

The Transcend EZEX Filter Media should be replaced
every six months. Contact your homecare dealer to
purchase a replacement Filter Media.
1. Remove the filter frame by gently pressing the button
release and lifting the plate away from the CPAP
(Image 1).
2. Remove the Filter Media from the filter frame and
discard.
3. Insert a new Filter Media into the filter frame (Image
2).
4. To replace the new filter frame, lay it on the bottom of
the CPAP. Snap the front clips into place first, then
snap the connector into place.
The Filter Media should be removed and cleaned
weekly.
1. To clean the Filter Media, first submerge a lint-
free cotton cloth into the cleaning solution*.
2. Wring excess water from the cloth.

CLEANING AND REPLACING THE FILTER MEDIA
3. Gently pat the Filter Media with the cloth.
4. Dry surfaces by wiping with a dry, lint-free cotton cloth.
5. Allow the Filter Media to air dry at room temperature for approximately 30-60 minutes before
reassembly. Drying time will depend on ambient conditions.
6. Reconnect the Filter Media and filter frame to the Transcend EZEX.
* A solution of 5% mild liquid detergent in distilled water (1.6 fl oz liquid detergent per quart of
distilled water) is recommended.

ORDINATEUR AVEC LE SYSTÈME DE TRAITEMENT
D'APNÉE DU SOMMEIL TRANSCEND
Conformément aux règlementations de sécurité CEI 60601-1-1, les précautions suivantes sont nécessaires à la
sécurité du patient et/ou de l’opérateur informatique.
Définitions Les ordinateurs conformes aux normes de sécurité 60950-1 respectent les normes de sécurité UL
60950-1 ou CEI 60950-1.
• Seul un ordinateur conforme aux normes de sécurité 60950-1 peut être connecté au port USB Transcend. La
connexion de tout autre périphérique au port USB Transcend peut endommager le système Transcend et
mettre en danger l’utilisateur.
• Afin de réduire le risque de courant de fuite, utilisez un transformateur de séparation conforme à la norme CEI
60601-1 pour alimenter l’ordinateur.
• Ne branchez pas l’ordinateur conforme aux normes de sécurité 60950-1 ou le système Transcend sur une
multiprise.
• Suivez les consignes de nettoyage du fabricant de l’ordinateur conforme aux normes de sécurité 60950-1.
• Suivez les consignes d’entretien préventif du fabricant de l’ordinateur conforme aux normes de sécurité
60950-1.
• Ne connectez pas l’ordinateur conforme aux normes de sécurité 60950-1 au port USB Transcend lors de
l’exécution de travaux d’entretien préventif.
• Ne touchez pas l’ordinateur conforme aux normes de sécurité 60950-1 en même temps qu’une partie
métallique exposée du système Transcend ou des câbles du système Transcend.
• Ne touchez aucune partie métallique exposée de l’ordinateur conforme aux normes de sécurité 60950-1, des
connecteurs ou des câbles
• Les médecins ne doivent pas toucher simultanément l’ordinateur conforme aux normes de sécurité 60950-1
et le patient.
• N’utilisez pas d’ordinateurs sur lesquels la tension interne est accessible sans l’aide d’outils.

AVERTISSEMENTS
• Empêchez l’eau de pénétrer dans l’appareil. L’appareil Transcend EZEX ne doit pas être conservé dans un
environnement humide.
• Cet appareil n’a pas pour but de maintenir la vie.
• Le système Transcend EZEX doit être configuré et ajusté par un professionnel de la santé formé avant d’être
utilisé pour la phase d’augmentation et la pression de traitement.
• La température de l’air produit par l’appareil peut être supérieure d’environ 5 °C à celle de la pièce. Soyez
vigilant si la température de la pièce dépasse 32 °C.
• Ne bloquez pas et n’obstruez pas les orifices d’expiration de l’interface. Respectez les instructions du fabricant
incluses avec l’interface.
• Cet équipement n’est pas compatible avec l’utilisation d’oxygène. De même, ne l’utilisez pas en présence
d’un mélange anesthésique inflammable d’air ou d’oxygène ou avec du protoxyde d’azote.
• Le système Transcend EZEX doit uniquement être utilisé avec les accessoires fournis ou recommandés.
L’utilisation d’accessoires non recommandés peut provoquer une augmentation des émissions
électromagnétiques ou une diminution de l’immunité électromagnétique du système de PAP et peut être
potentiellement dangereuse.
• Le système Transcend EZEX n’est pas anti-défibrillateur.
• Ne tentez pas de stériliser l’appareil Transcend EZEX.
• Si l’appareil est utilisé par plusieurs patients, un filtre antibactérien stoppant le flux principal des bactéries doit
être installé entre l’appareil et le tuyau du circuit respiratoire afin d’empêcher toute contamination.
• L’appareil doit être utilisé uniquement avec des masques et des connecteurs recommandés par Somnetics ou
par un professionnel de la santé. Utilisez le masque uniquement lorsque l’appareil est sous tension et délivre
la phase d’augmentation ou la pression de traitement. Les orifices d’expiration reliés au masque ne doivent
jamais être bloqués. Explication de cet avertissement : l’appareil est conçu pour fonctionner avec des
masques et des connecteurs spéciaux dotés d’orifices d’expiration permettant à l’air de sortir continuellement
du masque. Lorsque l’appareil est sous tension et fonctionne correctement, l’air frais de l’appareil chasse l’air
expiré, via les orifices d’expiration du masque. Cependant, lorsque l’appareil est hors tension, il n’y a pas
assez d’air frais apporté dans le masque et il est possible que de l’air expiré soit de nouveau inhalé. Réinspirer
de l’air expiré pendant plusieurs minutes peut parfois entraîner la suffocation.
• Débranchez l’appareil Transcend EZEX avant de le nettoyer.
• Ne plongez pas l’appareil Transcend EZEX, ni son alimentation dans un liquide.
• Empêchez l’eau d’entrer par les ouvertures de l’appareil.
• N’utilisez pas de produits nettoyants abrasifs ou agressifs pour nettoyer l’appareil ou ses composants.
• Ne tentez pas de stériliser l’appareil Transcend EZEX.
• Ne posez pas de produits nettoyants, tels qu’un chiffon ou un liquide, sur les connecteurs d’entrée
ou de sortie d’air de l’appareil.
• les tuyaux d’alimentation en air, le masque, le support de tête et les filtres antibactériens/antiviraux doivent
être mis au rebut après chaque utilisation par un patient et ce, conformément aux procédures standards
institutionnelles relatives aux dangers biologiques. Ne tentez jamais de nettoyer, désinfecter ou stériliser ces
composants pour plusieurs utilisateurs. Ces composants doivent être utilisés une seule fois par patient. Ne
tentez jamais de nettoyer, désinfecter ou stériliser ces composants. Respectez les instructions du fabricant en
matière de nettoyage, de désinfection et de réutilisation des interfaces pour patient (masques).

• utilisez uniquement des filtres antibactériens/antiviraux disponibles sur le marché et compatibles avec les
appareils de CPAP. Respectez les instructions du fabricant relatives à l’utilisation du filtre. Utilisez uniquement
des filtres disponibles sur le marché et qui ne nécessitent aucun recalibrage de l’appareil de PAP.
• ne plongez pas l’appareil Transcend EZEX, ni son alimentation dans un liquide. N’introduisez pas de liquide, ni
de solution détergente dans l’appareil.
• Risque de strangulation avec le cordon d'alimentation et le tuyau d'air. Ces deux éléments peuvent s'entourer
autour du cou et ÉTRANGLER. Tenez le cordon d'alimentation et le tuyau d'air à plus d'un mètre du berceau et
hors de portée d'un bébé. Tenez le cordon et le tuyau hors de portée des enfants.
• Il existe peu de risque que de petites pièces s'échappent du boîtier du Transcend, cependant, en cas de
dommage important, des composants internes peuvent se briser et représenter un risque d'étouffement en
cas d'ingestion s'ils sortent du boîtier.
MISES EN GARDE
• Selon la loi fédérale américaine, cet appareil ne peut être vendu que par un médecin ou sur ordonnance d’un
médecin.
• Branchez le système Transcend EZEX uniquement avec l’alimentation, l’adaptateur mobile ou les batteries
fournis par Somnetics. Voir Annexe : références.
• En cas d’irritation des voies respiratoires ou d’irritations cutanées, cessez d’utiliser l’appareil Transcend EZEX
et contactez votre médecin.
• N’introduisez pas d’objets dans les systèmes d’entrée ou de sortie d’air de l’appareil Transcend EZEX.
• Avant chaque utilisation, vérifiez que le bloc d’alimentation ne présente pas de signes d’usure ou de
détérioration. Si nécessaire, remplacez le cordon d’alimentation.
• Somnetics recommande de remplacer le tuyau (flexible) d’alimentation en air après trois mois d’utilisation.
• Par souci environnemental, certains éléments et accessoires du système Transcend EZEX, dont les batteries
optionnelles, doivent être mis au rebut conformément aux réglementations locales en vigueur.
• N’utilisez pas de convertisseur de secteur, ni de transformateur de tension avec l’alimentation universelle
PSA2.
• Conversion Transcend EZEXmatiquement la tension, mais juin nécessitent un adaptateur pour une utilisation
dans un autre pays. Il est recommandé d'utiliser les adaptateurs enfichables interchangeables Livré avec
l'alimentation Transcend. Utilisez uniquement les Somnetics-alimenté fournitures et accessoires d'alimentation
universels.

1. Fixez l’adaptateur universel de tuy au tuyau d’alimentation en air de 1,8 m. Branchez l’adaptateur universel
de tuyau à l’appareil Transcend EZEX en veillant à ce qu’il soit bien placé dans l’appareil de CPAP.2.
Branchez l’interface (masque) à l’extrémité du tuyau utilisé par le patient.
3. Branchez le connecteur cylindrique de l’alimentation sur le système CPAP en plaçant le câble vers le haut.
4. Branchez le bloc d’alimentation à une source d’alimentation.

Remarque : votre système Transcend EZEX peut également être alimenté
par l’adaptateur mobile Transcend (en option) ou de batterie Transcend
(en option).
Remarque : une fois le CPAP alimenté, le voyant jaune clignotera une
fois et sera suivi de trois clignotements rapides du voyant vert. Cela
indique que l’appareil est sous tension et que le mode de veille est activé.
Remarque : n’utilisez pas de convertisseur de secteur avec votre
Transcend car cela pourrait endommager l’appareil. Transcend convertit
automatiquement la tension.

POUR CHANGER L’ADAPTATEUR DE FICHE DE
L’ALIMENTATION UNIVERSELLE MULTIPRISE POUR :
1. Appuyez sur le bouton de l’alimentation et tournez l’adaptateur de fiche dans le sens inverse des aiguilles
d’une montre pour déverrouiller le dispositif.
2. Alignez le nouvel adaptateur de fiche sur l’alimentation et faites-le tourner dans le sens des aiguilles
d’une montre jusqu’à ce que la fiche s’enclenche.

Utilisation de la fonction de phase d’augmentation
Les paramètres de phase d’augmentation seront programmés par votre prestataire de soins, le cas échéant.
1. Amorcez la phase d’augmentation en appuyant sur le bouton de phase d’augmentation (le bouton supérieur)
après avoir appuyé sur l’interrupteur.
Remarque : le bouton de phase d’augmentation ne fonctionne pas si votre prestataire de soins n’a pas
prédéfini la fonction de phase d’augmentation.
2. La pression délivrée par l’appareil est diminuée à un niveau prédéfini pour le démarrage et va graduellement
augmenter au cours d’un intervalle de temps prédéfini jusqu’à ce que l’appareil atteigne la pression de
traitement prescrite.
3. Pour accélérer l’intervalle de temps de la phase d’augmentation, appuyez sans relâcher sur le bouton
de phase d’augmentation. L’appareil augmente rapidement la pression jusqu’à atteindre la pression de
traitement qui vous a été prescrite.
Fin du traitement
Pour arrêter le traitement, appuyez sur l’interrupteur pour ramener l’appareil en mode de veille.

traitement. Le débit d’air commencera alors que le générateur d’air émettra la pression de traitement prescrite.

ENTRETIEN DE VOTRE TRANSCEND EZEX ET DE SES COMPOSANTS
Mode de séchage
Le mode de séchage doit être utilisé quotidiennement pour sécher l’intérieur de votre Transcend EZEX après
utilisation.
Attention: ne tentez pas d’utiliser Transcend EZEX lorsqu’il est en mode de séchage. En mode de séchage,
l’appareil ne fournira pas la pression de traitement prescrite.
1. Posez l’appareil sur une surface sèche et stable. Il n’est pas recommandé de le faire sur une surface en tissu
car elle risque d’être tachée.
2. Assurez-vous que l’appareil est en mode de veille.
3. Pour activer le mode de séchage, maintenez sans relâcher le bouton de phase d’augmentation, puis appuyez
sur l’interrupteur.
4. Un débit d’air basse pression sera généré pendant 30 minutes jusqu’à ce que la séquence de séchage soit
terminée. L’appareil retournera ensuite en mode de veille. Pour arrêter le mode de séchage avant la fin de
la séquence de 30 minutes, appuyez sur l’interrupteur. L’appareil retournera en mode de veille.
Attention: le mode de séchage sèche l’intérieur de votre Transcend EZEX. Ne tentez pas de nettoyer l’intérieur
de l’appareil Transcend.
Nettoyage de l’extérieur de l’appareil
Nettoyez l’extérieur de l’appareil Transcend EZEX dans la mesure requise. Pour le nettoyer, essuyez la surface avec
un chiffon non pelucheux ou un essuie-tout trempé dans de l’eau contenant un produit vaisselle doux*. Après le
nettoyage, essuyez de nouveau avec un chiffon ou un essuie-tout humide. Laissez sécher.
Attention: ne plongez jamais l’appareil Transcend EZEX dans l’eau. N’introduisez pas de savon, ni d’eau dans
l’appareil.
Nettoyage des composants de l’appareil Transcend EZEX
L’interface (masque) doit être nettoyée toutes les semaines. Le tuyau d’alimentation en air doit être lavé tous les
jours.
1. Débranchez complètement les composants.
2. Lavez-les manuellement à l’eau tiède avec un produit vaisselle doux*.
3. Rincez abondamment.
4. Laissez sécher à l’air libre. Les composants doivent être complètement secs avant d’être de nouveau branchés.
5. Rebranchez les composants et replacez-les dans le Transcend EZEX.
Attention: ne mettez aucun des composants Transcend EZEX dans le lave-vaisselle ou le lave-linge.
* Une solution de 5 % de détergent liquide doux dans de l’eau distillée (48 ml de détergent liquide par litre d’eau
distillée) est recommandée.
