Changing the Bracket (Optional)
TheNICshipswiththeStandardbracketattached;anoptionallowprofilebracketisincluded.Usethe
followingproceduretochangebrackets.
1. Groundyourselftodissipateanystaticcharge.
2. RemovethetwoscrewssecuringthestandardbrackettothebacksideoftheNIC.
3. SlidethestandardbracketawayfromtheNIC.
4. Slidethelowprofilebracketontotheadapter.
5. AttachthelowprofilebrackettotheNICusingthetwoscrewsyouremovedinstep2.
6. Carefullytightenthescrewsuntiltheyareseated.Donotover‐tightenthescrews.

Hardware Install Procedure
Warning:PCIExpresscards,likeallcomputerequipment,canbebadlydamagedbystaticelectricity.Be
surethatyouareproperlygroundedbeforeopeningyourcomputercaseortouchingyourNIC.We
recommendthatyouwearananti‐staticstrapwheninstallinganycomputercomponent.Ifananti‐static
strapisunavailable,dischargeyourselfofanystaticelectricitybuild‐upbytouchingalargegrounded
metalsurface(suchasthecomputercase)forseveralseconds.Also,becarefultohandletheNICbyits
edgesandnotbythegoldconnectors.
Caution:OnlyqualifiedpersonsshouldinstalltheNIC.Failuretoobservethiscautioncouldresultin
poorperformanceordamagetotheequipment.BeforeinstallingtheNIC,reviewtheSystem
RequirementsandInstallationOverview.
Caution:Wearagroundingdeviceandobserveelectrostaticdischargeprecautionswheninstallingthe
NICinasystem.FailuretoobservethiscautioncouldresultindamagetotheNIC.Beforeinstallingthe
NIC,ensurethatsystempowerisOFF,thepowercordisunpluggedfromthepoweroutlet,andthat
properelectricalgroundingprocedurehasbeenfollowed.
Warning:Highvoltageinsidethesystemmaypresentasafetyhazard.Makesurethatthesystempower
isoffbeforeremovingthecover.UnpluganddisconnectthePCandthenwaitfor15‐20secondsbefore
pluggingtheNICintothePC.WhenremovingtheNIC,unplugtheEthernetcablebeforeremovingthePC
cover.
ToinstalltheN‐GXENIC,dothefollowing:
1. TurnOffpowertothePCorfileserverandunplugthepowercord.
2. TurnOffanyperipheralsconnectedtothecomputer(Printers,externalharddrives,etc.).
3. Removethecoverfromthecomputercase.Seeyourcomputersystemdocumentationfordetails.
Keepallscrews.
4. LocateanopenPCIExpressslotandremovethemetalcoverplateontherearofthecomputercase
SeesystemdocumentationforPCIeslotlocation.Removeandretainthefaceplate.
5. RemovethenetworkN‐GXENICfromtheshippingpackageandstorethepackagingmaterialina
safeplace.
6. GentlyinserttheNICintotheopenPCIExpressslotandfastenthebrackettotherearofthecase.
Note:Replacingthepre‐installedinstallationbracketmayberequirednowdependingontheprofile
ofthesystemitisbeinginstalledin.ApplyevenpressureonthecornersoftheN‐GXENIC,pushing
downuntilitseatsfirmlyintothePCIeslot.
7. ReplacethePCorfileservercoverandsecureitwiththescrewsremovedinStep3above.
8. Insertthepowercableintothesocketonthepowersupplyandreconnectallotherconnectors
removedinStep2.
9. Disconnectanyantistaticdevices.
10. PowerupthePCorfileserver.

2. PositiontheSFPwiththeSFPcage.

5. InserttheLCfibercableendcompletelyintotheSFP.
6. ConnecttheLCcableatthefarenddevice.
Removing SFP Modules and Fiber Cables
ToremovetheSFPfromtheN‐GXE‐SFP‐02SFPcage:
1. AttachanESD‐preventivewriststraptoyourwristandtoabare‐metalgroundedsurface.
2. HaveareplacementSFPoratransceiver‐cageplugready,aswellasanantistaticmatandarubber
safetycapfortheSFP.
Caution: Avoidbendingfiber‐opticcablebeyonditsminimumbendradius;anyarcsmallerthana
fewinchesindiametercandamagethecableandcauseproblemsthataredifficulttodiagnose.
3. DisconnecttheLCcablefortheSFP.
4. PullthebaleclasphandleoutfromtheSFPtounlocktheSFP.
5. GrasptheSFPbaleclaspandpulltheSFPapproximately0.5in(1.3cm)outofthecage.
6. Usingyourfingers,graspthebodyoftheSFPandpullitcompletelyfromthecage.
7. Inserttherubberprotector,shownright,intotheSFPmoduletoprotectit.
8. PlacetheSFPmoduleinanantistaticbagorotherprotectiveenvironment.

Verify Installation

Connection”.

3. ShutdownthecomputerandthenremovetheN‐GXENICfromthecomputer.
4. Run"WinUinst64.exe"(underC:\WINDOWS7\64)andmakesuretheoldversiondriverisdeleted
completely.
5. Run"Winsetup64.exe"(underC:\WINDOWS7\64)andpre‐installthenewdriver.
6. InserttheN‐GXENICintothecomputerandafteryoumakesureitisinstalledproperly,restartthe
computer.Thecomputershoulddetectthenetworkadapterandautomaticallyinstallthedriver.
