Smoke Alarm
Th smok alarm monitors th air for products of combustion
that ar produc d wh n som thing is burning or smold ring.
Wh n smok particl s in th smok s nsor r ach a sp cifi d
conc ntration, th alarm/voic m ssag warning syst m will
sound, and b accompani d by th flashing r d LED light. Th
smok alarm tak s pr c d nc wh n both smok and carbon
monoxid ar pr s nt.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm
Th Carbon Monoxid (CO) alarm monitors th air for th
pr s nc of CO. It will alarm wh n th r ar high l v ls of CO
pr s nt, and wh n th r ar low l v ls of CO pr s nt ov r a
long r p riod of tim (s pag 21 for alarm tim s). Wh n a CO
condition match s ith r of th s situations, th alarm/voic
m ssag warning syst m will sound, and b accompani d by th
flashing r d LED light. Th carbon monoxid s nsor us s an
l ctroch mical t chnology.
CAUTION: This alarm will only indicat th pr s nc of
carbon monoxid gas at th s nsor. Carbon monoxid gas
may b pr s nt in oth r ar as.
Individuals with m dical probl ms may consid r using warning

monoxid conc ntrations und r 30 ppm.

CEILING OR WALL. IT WAS NOT DESIGNED FOR USE AS A
TABLETOP DEVICE! INSTALL ONLY AS DETAILED!
A. R comm nd d Installation Locations:
Kidd Saf ty r comm nds th installation of a Smok /CO Alarm
in th following locations. For maximum prot ction w sugg st
an alarm b install d on ach l v l of a multil v l hom ,
including v ry b droom, hallways, finish d attics and
bas m nts. Put alarms at both nds of b droom, hallway or larg
room if hallway or room is mor than 30 ft (9.1m) long. If you
hav only on alarm, nsur it is plac d in th hallway outsid of
th main sl ping ar a, or in th main b droom. V rify th alarm
can b h ard in all sl ping ar as.
Locat an alarm in v ry room wh r som on sl ps with th

Th following information is from th National Fir Prot ction
Association and is list d in Fir Cod 72.
Install Smok Alarms on slop d, p ak d or cath dral c ilings at,
or within 3 ft (0.9m) of th high st point (m asur d horizontally).
NFPA 72 stat s “Smok alarms in rooms with c iling slop s
gr at r than 1 ft to 8 ft (.3 m-2.4 m) horizontally shall b locat d
on th high sid of th room”.
NFPA 72 stat s “A row of alarms shall b spac d and locat d
within 3 ft (0.9 m) of th p ak of th c iling m asur d
horizontally” (s figur 2).
Mobil Hom s:
Mod rn mobil hom s hav b n d sign d and built to b
n rgy ffici nt. Install Smok /CO alarms as r comm nd d
abov (r f r to R comm nd d Installation Instructions and figur
1). In old r mobil hom s that ar not w ll insulat d, xtr m
h at or cold can b transf rr d from th outsid to th insid
through poorly insulat d walls and roof. This may caus a
th rmal barri r, which can pr v nt smok from r aching an alarm
mount d on th c iling. In such mobil hom s install your
Smok /CO Alarm on an insid wall with th top dg of th
alarm at a minimum of 4 inch s (10cm) and a maximum of 12
inch s (30.5cm) b low th c iling (s figur 2). If you ar not
sur about th insulation in your mobil hom , or if you notic
that th out r walls and c iling ar ith r hot or cold, install your
alarm on an insid wall ONLY!

THIS EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION’S
STANDARD 72 (National Fir Prot ction Association,
Batt rymarch Park, Quincy, MA 02269).
B. Wh r Not to Install:
Do not install in garag s, kitch ns, furnac rooms or
bathrooms! INSTALL AT LEAST 5 FEET AWAY FROM ANY
FUEL BURNING APPLIANCE.
Do not install within 3 ft (.9m) of th following: Th door to a
kitch n, or a bathroom that contains a tub or show r, forc d air
supply ducts us d for h ating or cooling, c iling or whol hous
v ntilating fans, or oth r high air ar as. Avoid xc ssiv ly dusty,
dirty or gr asy ar as. Dust, gr as or hous hold ch micals can
contaminat th alarm's s nsors, causing it to not op rat
prop rly.
Plac th alarm wh r drap s or oth r obj cts will not block th
s nsor. Smok and CO must b abl to r ach th s nsors to
accurat ly d t ct th s conditions. Do not install in p aks of
vault d c ilings, “A” fram c ilings or gabl d roofs. K p out of
damp and humid ar as.
Install at l ast on (1) foot away from fluor sc nt lights,
l ctronic nois may caus nuisanc alarms. Do not plac in
dir ct sunlight and k p out of ins ct inf st d ar as. Extr m
t mp ratur s will ff ct th s nsitivity of th Smok /CO Alarm.
Do not install in ar as wh r th t mp ratur is cold r than 40
d gr s Fahr nh it (4.4˚ C lsius) or hott r than 100 d gr s
Fahr nh it (37.8˚ C lsius), such as garag s and unfinish d attics.
Do not install in ar as wh r th r lativ humidity (RH) is abov

Mounting Instructions:
CAUTION: YOUR SMOKE/CO ALARM IS SEALED AND
THE COVER IS NOT REMOVABLE!
1. To h lp id ntify th dat to r plac th unit, writ th "R plac
by" dat (10 y ars from initial pow r up) in p rman nt mark r
in th spac provid d on th sid of th alarm. S Alarm
R plac m nt s ction for additional information.
2. R mov th mounting brack t from th back of th alarm by
holding th mounting brack t and twisting th alarm in th
dir ction indicat d by th “OFF”arrow on th alarm cov r.
Hold th mounting brack t against th s l ct d installation
location (wall or c iling) and mark th c nt r of th hol s with
a p ncil.
3. To nsur a sth tic alignm nt of th alarm with th hallway,
or wall, th “A” lin on th mounting brack t must b parall l
with th hallway wh n c iling mount d, or horizontal wh n
wall mount d.
4. Drill a hol through th p ncil marks and us th nclos d
scr ws and anchors to s cur (us 3/16" drill bit for anchor
hol s).
5. Install th alarm on th mounting brack t and rotat th
alarm in th dir ction of th “ON” arrow on th cov r until
th alarm ratch ts into plac (this ratch ting function allows
for a sth tic alignm nt). Not : Th alarm will mount to th
brack t in 4 positions ( v ry 90 d gr s).
6. Two lab ls ar includ d with your alarm. Th y hav important
information on what to do in cas of an alarm. Add th
phon numb r of your m rg ncy s rvic provid r (Fir
D partm nt or 911) in th spac provid d. Plac on lab l
n xt to th alarm aft r it is mount d, and on lab l n ar a
fr sh air sourc such as a door or window.

Smoke HUSH Control Feature
Th HUSH f atur has th capability of t mporarily d s nsitizing
th smok alarm circuit for approximat ly 9 minut s. This f atur
is to b us d only wh n a known alarm condition, such as smok
from cooking, activat s th alarm. You can put your Smok /CO
Alarm in HUSH mod by pushing th t st/r s t button. If th
smok is not too d ns , th alarm will sil nc imm diat ly, th
unit will v rbally announc “HUSH MODE ACTIVATED”, and th
gr n LED will flash v ry 2 s conds for approximat ly 9
minut s. This indicat s that th smok alarm is in a t mporarily
d s nsitiz d condition. Your Smok /CO Alarm will automatically
r s t aft r approximat ly 9 minut s. Wh n th unit r turns to
normal op ration aft r b ing in HUSH mod , it will v rbally
announc “HUSH MODE CANCELLED”, and sound th alarm if
smok is still pr s nt. Th HUSH f atur can b us d r p at dly
until th air has b n cl ar d of th condition causing th alarm.
Whil th unit is in HUSH mod , pushing th t st/r s t button on
th alarm will also nd th HUSH p riod.
NOTE: DENSE SMOKE WILL OVERRIDE THE HUSH CONTROL
FEATURE AND SOUND A CONTINUOUS ALARM.
CAUTION: BEFORE USING THE ALARM HUSH FEATURE,
IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE SMOKE AND BE CERTAIN A
SAFE CONDITION EXISTS.
Reset Feature
If th th Smok /CO Alarm is sounding a CO alarm, pr ssing th
t st/r s t button will sil nc th alarm.
If th CO condition that caus d th al rt continu s, th alarm will
r activat within 200 s conds.(s pag 21).
CO Peak Level Memory
If th gr n LED is blinking onc v ry 10 s conds, th unit has
d t ct d a hazardous CO condition. If th CO s nsor has
d t ct d a CO l v l of 100 PPM or high r sinc last r s t, it will
b r cord d by th P ak L v l M mory function. To acc ss th
P ak L v l M mory pr ss th t st/r s t button. If a r ading of
100 PPM or high r has b n r cord d, th unit will announc
“Carbon Monoxid Pr viously D t ct d.” If you’v b n away
from hom this f atur allows you to ch ck if th r was a CO
r ading of 100, or high r, during your abs nc . Pushing th
t st/r s t button r s ts th m mory. It’s also r s t wh n th
batt ry is r mov d.

16 s conds until th t st/r s t button is pr ss d, thus
r s tting th alarm.
– HUSH MODE Condition: Th LED will flash v ry 2
s conds whil th alarm is in HUSH mod .
Tamper Resist Feature
To mak your smok /CO alarm tamp r r sistant, a tamp r r sist
f atur has b n provid d. Activat th tamp r r sist f atur by
br aking off th four posts in th squar hol s in th trim ring
(s figur 5A). Wh n th posts ar brok n off, th tamp r r sist
tab on th bas is allow d to ngag th mounting brack t.
Rotat th alarm onto th mounting brack t until you h ar th
tamp r r sist tab snap into plac , locking th alarm on th
mounting brack t. Using th tamp r r sist f atur will h lp d t r
childr n and oth rs from r moving th alarm from brack t.
NOTE: To r mov th alarm wh n th tamp r r sist tab is
ngag d, pr ss down on th tamp r r sist tab, and rotat th
alarm off of th brack t (s figur 5B).

What To Do If The Alarm Sounds
When the smoke alarm sounds:

At 150 PPM, th unit must alarm within 10-50 minut s.
At 400 PPM, th unit must alarm within 4-15 minut s.

Battery Replacement
If any form of batt ry failur is d t ct d th r d LED light will
flash and th unit will "chirp" onc v ry 60 s conds for at l ast
7 days. Th "LOW BATTERY" voic occurs onc v ry 15
minut s.Th gr n LED will also b flashing twic p r s cond.
If th r d LED light flash s along with a chirp v ry 30
s conds, and is not follow d by th voic m ssag “LOW
BATTERY” as d scrib d abov , your unit has malfunction d.
