1.2HOWYOURCOALARMWORKS
GENERAL INFORMATION
CAUTION!
Leaveyour COAlarmplugged inyear-round.COproblems
can occur anytimeduring the year,and thisAlarmcan only
alert youifit is pluggedin and receiving power.
ThisCOAlarmisintended for useinastandardDC12V
power supply.Itisnotintended for useinextension cords,
power strips,or outlets controlled byaswitchor dimmer.
Thesemay not provide continuouspower tothe unit.
Whenfullypowered,itsamplestheair and takesanew
reading abouteverysecond.Amicrochip inside the unit
storeseachreading,andremembersthelevelsofCOithas
been exposed toover time.The unitgoesintoalarmmode
when ithasbeen exposed toa “critical”level ofCO
(measured in partspermillion or “ppm”)within aspecified
time(measured in minutes).
ThisCarbon Monoxide Alarmfeaturesapermanently
installedsensor,three colored indicatorlights,andan 85dB
alarmhorn.Italsohas aSilenceFeaturetotemporarily quiet
the alarmhorn.

2. INSTALLATION
2.1WHERETOINSTALL COALARMS
The National FireProtectionAssociation (NFPA)
recommendsthataCOAlarmshould be centrallylocated
outside ofeachseparatesleeping area inthe immediate
vicinityofthebedrooms.Foraddedprotection,install
additional COAlarmsineachseparatebedroom,and on
every level ofyour home.

2.2WHERECOALARMSSHOULDNOTBEINSTALLED
DONOTLOCATETHISCOALARM:
lIngarages,kitchens,furnacerooms,or in any
extremely dusty, dirtyor greasy areas.
lCloser than 20 feet fromafurnaceor other fuel burning
heatsource,or fuel burning applianceslikeawater
heater.
lWithin 5feet ofanycookingappliance.
lInextremely humid areas.Thisalarmshouldbeatleast
10 feetfromabathor shower,sauna,humidifier,
vaporizer,dishwasher,laundryroom, utilityroomor
other sourceofhigh humidity.
lInareaswhere temperature iscolder than 40°F(4°C)or
hotter than 100°F(38°C).Theseareasinclude
unconditioned crawlspaces, unfinished attics,
uninsulated or poorlyinsulated ceilings, porches,and
garages.
lInturbulentair,likenear ceilingfans, heatvents, air
conditioners,freshair returns,or open windows.
Blowing air may preventCOfromreachingthesensors.
lIndirectsunlight.
lInoutletscovered by curtains or other obstruction.
!WARNING!
ThisCOAlarmisdesignedforuseinsidea
single-familyhomeorapartment.Itisnotmeantto
beusedincommonlobbies,hallways,or
basementsofmulti-familybuildingsunless working
COAlarmsarealsoinstalledin eachfamilyliving
unit.COAlarmsincommon areasmaynotbeheard
frominsideindividualfamilylivingunits.

ThisCOAlarmisspecificallydesignedfor
residentialuse,andmay notprovideadequate
protectioninnon-residentialapplications.
2.3HOW TOINSTALL YOURCOALARM
This COAlarmcannotoperatewithoutcontinuouselectricity.
It doesnotoperateduring apower failure.Donotusein an
extension cord,or outletcontrolledbyadimmer or
switch—unitmust haveaconstantpower supply.
Leaveyour COAlarmplugged inyear-round.COproblems
can occur anytimeduring the year,and thisalarmcan only
alert youifit is pluggedin and receiving power.
1.ConnectDC12Vtothe unit.Inhorizontallyorvertically
positioned walloutlets, mountunitwithTestbutton
facing upward.
2.Makesure green lightshines when you plug in the unit.
It will shine continuously when unit is receiving power.
The horn will “chirp”onceduring power up,or when
power is restored after anoutage.
3.Test bypressing theTest button firmlyuntil the unit
sounds.The sound would sound.During testing,the
green,yellow,and red lightsONor flash.Thisis
normal.
4.While testing the unit,haveafamilymember check
thatthe horn can beeasilyheard fromthe sleeping
areas.The unitshould belocatedwhere itcanwake
you ifitalarms atnight.
5.Find thepairofself-adhesivelabelsincluded withthis
COAlarm.
lOn eachlabel writeinthephone number ofyour
emergency responder (like911) and aqualified
appliancetechnician.
lPlaceone labelnear theCOAlarm, and the
other label in the “freshair”locationyou plan to
go ifthe alarmsounds.
NOTE: Aqualified appliancetechnicianisdefined as “a
person,firm,corporation, or companythateither in person or
through arepresentative,isengagedin andresponsiblefor
the installation,testing,servicing, or replacement ofheating,
ventilation,air conditioning (HVAC)equipment, combustion
appliancesand equipment, and/or gasfireplacesor other
decorativecombustionequipment.”
3. IF YOUR COALARMSOUNDS
Actuationof yourCOalarmindicatesthepresenceofcarbon
monoxide (CO) whichcan kill you.Inother words, when your
COAlarm sounds,youmust not ignore it!
3.1IFTHEALARMSIGNAL SOUNDS:
1.OperatetheTest/Silencebutton.
2.Call your emergencyservices,fire departmentor911.
Writedownthe number ofyour local emergency
servicehere:

3.Immediatelymovetofreshair—outdoorsor byan
open door or window.Doahead counttocheck that
all personsare accountedfor.Donotreenter the
premises, ormoveawayfromtheopendoor or
windowuntil the emergency servicesresponder has
arrived,the premiseshavebeen aired out, and your
COAlarmremains inits normal condition.
4.After following steps1-3,ifyourCOAlarmreactivates
within a24-hour period,repeatsteps1-3 andcall a
qualified appliancetechnician toinvestigatefor
sourcesofCOfromfuel-burning equipmentand
appliances,andinspect for properoperationofthis
equipment. Ifproblems areidentified during this
inspectionhavetheequipmentserviced immediately.
Noteanycombustion equipmentnotinspected bythe
technician,and consultthe manufacturers
instructions,or contactthe manufacturersdirectly,for
more information aboutCOsafety and thisequipment.
Makesurethatmotor vehiclesarenot, and havenot,
been operating in an attached garage or adjacentto
the residence.Writedownthenumber ofaqualified
appliancetechnician here:

Ifyouhear thealarmhorn and the
redlightison, moveeveryoneto
asource offresh air.
DONOTunplug theCOAlarm!
3.2FINDINGTHESOURCEOFCOAFTER ANALARM
BecauseCOmaydissipatebythe timeaninvestigator
arrives, itmaybedifficulttolocatethesourceofCO.See
“WhatYou Need toKnowAboutCO.”ConvoySecurity
Technologyshallnotbeobligatedtopayfor anycarbon
monoxide investigation or servicecall.
3.3USINGTHESILENCEFEATURE
The SilenceFeatureisintended totemporarilysilenceyour
COAlarmsalarmhorn while you correcttheproblem—it will
not correctaCOproblem. Whilethealarmissilenced,itwill
continue tomonitor the air for CO.
WhenCOreachesalarmlevels,the alarmwill sound.Press
and hold theTest/Silencebutton until the horn is silent. The
initial Silencecycle will last approximately 4minutes.
4.TESTINGANDMAINTENANCE
4.1WEEKLYTESTING
!WARNING!
TesttheCOAlarmonceaweek.IftheCOAlarm
everfailstotest correctly,haveitreplaced
immediately!IftheCOAlarmisnotworking
properly,itcannotalertyoutoaproblem.
Pushand hold the Test button on the cover until aloud alarm
sounds.The alarmsequenceshould lastfor 5-6 seconds. If
the COAlarmever failstotestproperly,replaceit
immediately.
IftheCOAlarmisnotworking properly,refer tothe “Limited
Warranty”atthe endofthismanual.
!WARNING!
TheTest buttonistheonlyproperwaytotest the
COAlarm.
NEVERuse vehicleexhaust!Exhaust may cause
permanentdamageandvoidsyour warranty.
!WARNING!
DONOT standclosetotheCOAlarmwhenthehorn
issounding.
Exposureat close rangemay beharmfultoyour
hearing.Whentesting,stepawaywhenhornstarts
sounding.
4.2REGULAR MAINTENANCE
To keep theCOAlarmin good working order:
lTest itevery week using theTest button.
lVacuumthe COAlarm cover atleasttwiceayear,using
the softbrushattachment. Testthe COAlarmagain
after vacuuming.
!CAUTION!
DONOTspray cleaningchemicalsorinsect sprays
directlyon orneartheCOAlarm.DONOTpaint
over theCOAlarm.Doing somay cause permanent
damage.
IMPORTANT!
Householdcleaners,aerosolchemicalsand other
contaminantscanaffect thesensor.Whenusing
anyofthese materialsneartheCOAlarm,make
suretheroomiswell ventilated.
IMPORTANT!
Ifyourhomeisbeingfumigated, unplugtheunit
temporarilyandputitwhereitwillnotbeexposed
tochemicalsor fumes.Whenfumigationis
completeand all traces offumesclear,plugtheunit
back in andretest it.
5. SERVICEand WARRANTY
lInstall and adjustaccordingtothisguide book.
lCheckthedetectoronceaweek;pleasekeep contact
withthe serviceprovider immediatelyifyou getsome
problems.
lDonotteardownor sling the detectorrandomly.
lDonotusechemicalstoclean the detectordirectly,or
washwithwater.
lThe detector is designed withautomatic detection,ifthe
gassensor or unitin error,donotdisassemble the unit
yourself,butgetadvicefromprofessional companyor
serviceprovider.
lThe manufacturer guaranteestotakethe responsibility
for free repair and exchange for one year fromthe date
ofpurchaseifthereisquality problem,andonlycharge
for capital cost beyond one year.
