When diving you must follow the rules and apply the skills taught by a recognized
scuba diving certication agency. Before taking part in any diving activity, it is
mandatory to have successfully completed a scuba diving course covering both
theoretical and technical aspects of diving.

a notied body according to European directive 89/686/EEC. Certication tests have been

Emergency face up oatation may not be provided for all wearers and in all
conditions (except for Master Jacket).

This BC is not a breathing device.
Never breathe from the BC.
Your BC may contain gas residue, liquid, or contamination that may result in injury
or death if inhaled.

In accordance with European standards, our BCs can only be considered certied
where all components are present, as per the original SCUBAPRO conguration,
including the low pressure hose supplied.
Any variation of the original conguration invalidates conformity to European
certication standards.
2.1 EN250:2000normregulationsandwhattheymean
The requirements and tests dened by the EN 250: 2000 standard aim to ensure a
minimumsafetylevelfortheoperationofunderwaterbreathingequipment.InEurope,the
EN250:2000normdenestheminimumtechnicalstandardsofacceptanceforrecreational
divingregulators.AllSCUBAPROregulatorshavesuccessfullypassedthecerticationtest
requiredbythisregulation.
2.2 Denitionof‘SCUBA’accordingtoEN250:2000
ThisregulationdenesaSCUBAunitasaself-containedopen-circuitunderwaterbreathing
apparatus.ASCUBAunitcanbecomposedofcomponentgroups.Duringuse,theminimum
requiredcomponentgroupsareelementsa)toe)ofthefollowinglist:
a. cylinder(s)withvalve(s);
b. demandregulator(s);
c. safetydevice(s);
d. facemask:completemouthpieceorhalf-maskfordivingorcompletemask;
e. carryingsystem.
2.3 LimitationsprovidedbyEN250:2000
TheSCUBAunitcanbecomprisedofseparatecomponentssuchas:cylinder(s),regulator(s),
pressuregauge.TheSCUBAPROBCsdescribedinthismanualcanbeusedwithSCUBA
componentsunitscertiedaccordingtodirective89/686/EECandEN250:2000norm.The
aircontainedinthecylindermustcomplywiththerequirementsforbreathableairdenedby
EN12021norm.Themaximumoperatingdepthis50meters(164ft.)howeverdiversmust
conformtothelimitssetbylocalregulationsinforceatthedivinglocation.
ForyourprotectionwhileusingSCUBAPROlifesupportequipment,wecallyourattention
tothefollowing:
1.Usetheequipmentaccordingtotheinstructionscontainedinthismanualandonlyafter
havingcompletelyreadandunderstoodallinstructionsandwarnings.
2.Useoftheequipmentislimitedtotheusesdescribedinthismanualorforapplications
approvedinwritingbySCUBAPRO.
3. Cylindersmustonlybelledwithatmosphericcompressedair,accordingtotheEN12021
norm.Shouldmoisturebepresentinthecylinder,besidecausingcorrosionofthecylinder,
itmaycausefreezingandsubsequentmalfunctionoftheregulatorduringdivescarried

outinlowtemperatureconditions(lowerthan10°C(50°F)).Cylindersmustbetransported
accordingtolocalrulesprovidedforthetransportofdangerousgoods.Cylinderuseis
subjectedtothelawsregulatingtheuseofgasesandcompressedair.
4.Equipmentmustbeservicedbyqualiedpersonnelattheprescribedintervals.Repairs
andmaintenancemustbecarriedoutbyanAuthorizedSCUBAPRODealerservicefacility
andwiththeexclusiveuseoforiginalSCUBAPROspareparts.
5.Should the equipment be serviced or repaired without complying with procedures
approvedbySCUBAPROorbyuntrainedpersonnelornotcertiedbySCUBAPRO,or
shoulditbeusedinwaysandforpurposesotherthanspecicallydesignated,liabilityfor
thecorrectandsafefunctionoftheequipmenttransferstotheowner/user.
6.Thecontentofthismanualisbaseduponthelatestinformationavailableatthetimeof
goingtoprint.SCUBAPROreservestherighttomakechangesatanytime.
7.Alldivesmustbeplannedandcarriedoutsothatattheendofthedivethediverwillstill
havea reasonablereserveofair foremergency use.The suggestedamount isusually
50bars(725psi).

Always perform a pre-dive and post-dive inspection of the BC.
PrimarypurposeoftheBuoyancyCompensator
The primary purpose of a Buoyancy Compensator is to make you more comfortable by
enablingyoutomaintainneutralbuoyancyatdepth.
Youareneutrallybuoyantwhenyoumaintainaspecicdepthwithoutexpendingsignicant
physicalefforttopreventanascentordescentfromthatdepth.

Do not use your BC as an assist or “lift bag” for bringing objects to the surface. These
objects may be lost during the ascent, creating a sudden increase in buoyancy and
loss of buoyancy control.
LowPressure(LP)hose
Connect the low pressure (LP) hose of the
PowerInationValveorA.I.R.2toanunused
LPportoftherststage,that must have the
same thread (g.1).

Do not attach a L.P. hose to a SCUBA regulator high pressure (HP) port or to an air
supply with pressure in excess of 200 psi (13.8 bar). This may result in damage or
explosive failure of the Ination Valve or Low pressure Hose, which could result in
injury or death.
5.1 Cylinderstrapsetupandattachment(singlecylinder)

TheSCUBAPROSuperCinchQ.A.cylinderstrapallowsyoutoeasilyfastenyourBCtoany
singleSCUBAcylinder.
SetupforasingleSCUBAcylindermustbeaccomplishedfollowingthesesteps:
1.Wet the webbing of the Super Cinch Q.A. cylinder strap prior to tightening. Wrap the
Super Cinch Q.A. (W1) strap (g. 2 – 1) around the SCUBA cylinder and insert the
end of the stainless steel buckle (B) into the trapezoidal “D” ring (DR1) (g. 2 – 1).
PositiontheSCUBAcylindersothatthecavity(S)ofthebackplatecorrespondstothe
cylindershoulder(g. 2 –2)with thelever(B) closetothe backpack(BP) (g.2– 3).
Thecylinderlocatorstrap(L)(g.2–2),onthetopofthebackplate,encirclingthevalve
neck of the cylinder, prevents the back pack strap assembly from sliding down, while
connectingandtighteningtheSuperCinchQ.A.Oncecorrectlyadjusted,ithelpstoeasily
andconsistentlyndthecorrectposition.
2.Close the buckle (C) (g. 2 – 3). If the
webbingstrap is too tight to close or too
loosetograbtheSCUBAcylinder,openthe
velcrofasteneronthewebbingandreadjust
the length of the Super Cinch Q.A. (W1)
webbing(g.2–1).Forextrasafety,slide
theloop(SL)(g.2–1)aroundthewebbing
end(T).WithSCUBAcylinder in place,lift
theassemblybythebackpackhandleand
shakermlytocheckforsecurefastening.
Trytomovethebackpackupanddownon
theSCUBAcylinder.Ifthereismovement,
thebandisnottightenough.

To prevent accidental loss of the cylinder, ensure the strap is done up tightly enough
so that the cylinder cannot move or slide on the BC. Failure to do so could result in
injury or death.

5.2 Quickreleasebeltbackpack:Adjustmentandattachment
(singletank)(somemodels)
TheSCUBAPRO®quick-releasebelt letsyouquicklyreleaseanysingletank fromthe BC
vest.Itmustbeinstalledasfollows:
1)Rotatethebuckleuntilitsnapsintotheopenposition.Slidethestraparoundtheplastic
buckleasshowninthegure(Fig.2-4),wetthestrapbeforeclampingitinplaceonthe
tank,andadjustthelength(Fig.2-7).
2)IftheBChasahardbackplate,placethecavity(S)ofthebackplateontheshoulderof
thetank(Fig.2-6)andthenfastenthestrap(Fig.2-5and2-7)ofthequick-releasebelt
(W1)aroundthetank.
OnBCswithhardbackplates,thesafetystrap(L)(Fig.2–6)isfastenedatthetopof
thebackplatetopreventtheBCfromslippingdownwardwhilethestrapisfastenedand
closed.Onceadjustedcorrectly,ithelpsrelocatetherightpositionforthetankontheBC
inaneasy,repetitiveway.
3)Closethebuckle(C)(Fig.2–7).Ifthestrapistootightortooloose,opentheVelcroand
thebuckletoreadjustthelengthofthestrap(Fig.2-5)ofthequick-releasebelt(W1).
Foraddedsafety,slidetheloop(SL)(Fig.2-5)aroundthestrapend(T).InBCswitha
hardbackplate,withthetankmountedtotheBCyoucanlifttheentireunitusingthe
handleintegratedintothebackplate.
Shaketheunittoensurethetankisproperlyfastened.
InBCswithoutahardbackplate,thereis a second Velcrostrapthatallowsyoutoeasily
positionthetanktopreventunwantedshiftingduringthedive.

Soak the webbing of the SCUBA air cylinder strap and then tighten prior to each use
of the BC. Webbing may stretch when initially exposed to water. Failure to soak the
webbing may allow the cylinder strap to loosen around the SCUBA air cylinder. This
could result in injury or death.

Thetotalweightmustbecalculatedandtestedinordertomaintainaneutralbuoyancysince
youchangedepthduringthedive,bysimplyaddingorreleasingthecorrectamountofair.
TheSCUBAPROBC.hasbeendesignedforthreeballastingsystems,basedontheuseofthe
‘Ecoweight’(softsealedweight,patentedbySCUBAPRO)developedtoimprovecomfort,to
reducewearofthepocketsandtoprotecttheenvironmentaswell.
7.1 Standardweightbelt
Itisthetraditionalharnessweightbelt,separatefromtheBC.

TheseremovablepocketsareinsertedintheBCcompartments(g.4-3)heldinpositionby
thebuckle(g.4-4)withthestrappulledbythe“D”ring:incaseofneed,bydisengagingthe
buckle(g.4-5,4-6)itispossiblewhethertoreleasetheweightsforemergencyor,simply,to
transfertheweightpockettotheboat,attheendofthedive.

The Ecoweight (g. 4-1) and Removable Pocket (g. 4-2) must be perfectly secured
with the buckles fully and correctly engaged (g. 4-4) : the loss of the pocket during
diving causes positive buoyancy and uncontrolled ascent that could result in injury
or death.

Practice fastening and releasing the weight pockets several times before diving.
7.3 BackcounterWeightPockets

. Failure
to create adequate positive buoyancy in an emergency situation may result in injury
or death. The user of the BC must congure the entire diving system in a manner
that provides the means for rapidly and easily creating positive buoyancy as an aid
for emergency ascent.

1.Makesurethatbothttingsarefreeofcontaminationpriortomatingthemtogether.
2.PullbackthecollaroftheQuickDisconnectCoupling,whilepushingthehosermly
ontothettingplugfoundonthepowerinationvalve.
3.Releasethecollarwhenthecouplingisfullyseatedontheplug.Pullgentlybutrmlyon
thehosetocheckforasecureconnection.
4.Todisconnect,pulltheQuickDisconnectCouplingcollarbackanddisengagetheLP
hosefromtheplug.

. Repeated use of the oral valve
or the Overpressure Valve may allow water inside the BC, reducing the amount of
buoyancy provided by the BC. This could result in injury or death. Drain all water out
of the BC prior to every use.

Forbettercontrolduringinationuseshortburstsofairbyrepeatedlypressingandreleasing

TheOralValveisfoundontheendoftheairway.ItallowsyoutoinateyourBCwithyour
exhaledbreath.Useofthisvalveforinationisrecommendedonthesurface,oronland
priortodiving.Itmaybeusedwhenyoucannot,ordonotwishtoaddairtotheBCwith
thePowerInationValve.
1.Firstexhaleasmallamountofairintothemouthpieceofthevalvetopurgeanywater
thatmaybetrappedthere.
2.Withthesamebreath,continuetoexhalewhiledeeplydepressingtheOralInation
ValveButton(g.6-O).
3.ReleasetheOralValveButtonwhenyouinhalefreshair.
4.Repeatsteps2and3untilthedesiredamountofbuoyancyisreached.

DeatingtheBCwiththeManualDumpValve
Stop and assume an upright position in the
water. When in position, open the Manual
Dump Valve by gently pulling downward on
theOralValve/PowerInationValveAssembly
(g.7-A).Itisnotnecessarytouseexcessive
pressuretopullonthehoseassembly.Valve
travel is limited and pulling harder will not
increase the air ow. To close the Manual
Dump Valve, stop pulling downward, and
release.

. Under certain conditions, contamination can cause the valve to not close
completely. If this occurs while diving, shake the valve while depressing it several
times. If the valve leaks or remains inoperable, terminate the dive. Diving with a
leaking Buoyancy Compensator or with valves that do not operate properly may
result in a loss of buoyancy control that could result in injury or death.
DeatingtheBCwiththeOralValve(BPIand/orAIR2)
Assumeaheaduppositioninthewater.RaisetheOralValveaboveandinfrontofyourface.
(ThisinsurestheOralvalvewillbepositionedabovetheairbubbleintheBC.).Depressthe
OralValvebuttonand visually conrmthatairisescapingfromthemouthpiece.Forbest
control,let airoutin aseriesof short, measuredamountswhileobserving the effectson
yourbuoyancy.

• The SCUBAPRO® Dual Manual Dump Valve (Patent) has a safety hand button
that releases air when pushed (g 7-C) , in case of failure of the Manual Dump
System (broken cable, pin, etc.) or while breathing from an Air 2.
• With all deation methods, hold the valve open no longer than needed. This
helps prevent excess water from entering the BC.
• Do not depress the Oral Valve button when activating the Manual Dump
valve, as water may enter the BC through the Oral Valve mouthpiece.
OverPressureValveOperation
TheOverPressureValvepreventsover-inationoftheBC.Iftheinternalpressureexceeds
thespringpressureintheOverPressureValve,thevalveautomaticallyopensandreleasesair
topreventdamagetotheBC.Thevalvewillautomaticallyclosewhentheinternalpressure
goesbelowthespringpressureintheOverpressureValve.

ShoulderValves
SCUBAPRO Buoyancy Compensators have over pressure valves on either one or both
shoulders that act also as dump valves. The dump valve on the left shoulder is always
presentandisactivatedeitherby:
a) pullinggentlyonthehoseassembly(g.7-A).
b) pushingonthebuttonthatprotrudesoutofthevalvecasing(g.7-C)(Patented):
thissystemcouldbeusefulalsotopurgeairofanotherdiverhavingproblems
(panic,beginnerdiver,unconsciousness,etc.).
Thevalveontherightshoulder,ifpresent,isactivatedbypullinggentlyontheknobwhichis
connectedviaalanyardtothevalveitself(g.7-B).Tooperateeitherstyleofdumpvalve,
orientthevalvetoapositionhigherthantheairbubbleintheBC.Activatethedumpvalveuntil
thedesiredamountofbuoyancyisreached.Stoppulling/pushingtoclosethevalve(g.7-B).
LowerDumpValve(g.7-L)
AnoverPressureValvelocatedatthelowerrearoftheBCisequippedwithlanyardandpull
knob.ThislowerDumpValvecanbemanuallyactivatedwhentheDiveroperatesthemin
ahorizontalorheaddownorientationinthewater,positioningthematthehighestpointof
theairbubble.

Restriction of normal breathing while wearing your BC could result in injury or death.
Before each use, check all bands, straps, quick-connect clips, and/or cummerbund
for proper adjustment to the user.
Openingandsecuringthebelts
Inordertoquicklyopenorclosethejacket,quick-lockand-releasebucklesareusedon
boththeshouldersandthecummerbund.
ThecummerbundalsofeaturesaVelcroclosuresystem.
Adjustableshoulder(somemodels:seemodelfeatures)
Shoulder straps are adjustable on your BC. These straps adjust by a length of webbing
passingthroughalockingfeatureonaquickreleasebuckle.Tightenbucklesbygrasping
thefreeend of theadjustmentwebbingandpullingrmly downward.Liftthe frontofthe
buckleupwardswhilewearingtheBCtoloosen.
Aquickreleasefeaturemayalsobeincorporatedintothebuckle.Checkfortwotabson
eithersideofthebucklethatmaybesqueezedtoseparatethebucklehalves.
FrontandshoulderclosuresontheBCareusedtokeepitinalowdragconguration.
Pre-dive,diveandpost-diveBCexaminationhelpstoidentifyequipmentproblemsbefore
unsafe conditions exist, preventing diving accidents. All equipment must be regularly
inspectedbyanauthorizedSCUBAequipmentrepairfacility.

. Loss of buoyancy control or air holding integrity could
occur, resulting in serious injury or death.

Pre-DiveVisualInspectionandValveTest:
1.Examine the entire BC for cuts, punctures, frayed seams, excessive abrasion, loose/
missinghardwareandotherdamageofanykind.
2.Inspect the Oral Valve, Power Ination Valve, Manual Dump Valve and Over Pressure
Valve(s)forcracks,damage,orcontamination.
3.Operate the Power Ination Valve (with the LP hose attached and charged with air
pressure),OralValve,manualDumpValveandOverPressureValve,checkingforproper
operationandresealing.IftheOPValvehasaPullDump,testitbypullingonthecord.
4.InatetheBCthroughtheOralValveuntilitisrm.Listenandcheckforleaks.LettheBC
standinatedfor30minutesormore,thenchecktheBCforlossofair.
5.Soakthecylinderband(s)andttheBCtoaSCUBAcylinder,pullupontheBCwhile
attachedontheSCUBAcylinder,checkingthattheBCwillnotslipwhilediving.
6.While wearing the BC, adjust the straps and other attachments on the BC for a
comfortable t that does not restrict breathing. Make these adjustments with the BC
inatedandwhilewearingtheexposuresuityouintendtodivewith.
7.Checkquickreleaseweightpocketsorsystemsthatretainweight(ifyourBCisequipped
withthem).Makesurethattheirretentionsystemsarefullyengagedandattached:they
havetobereleased,andtheweightremovedfromyourequipment,quickly.
8.Cross check all valves’ operation and visually inspect your BC with your dive partner
beforeeachdive,priortoenteringthewater.

Terminate any dive as safely and quickly as possible if the BC becomes damaged,
leaks air, or does not function properly.
Post-Dive:BCCleaningandexaminationandStorage
Withpropercareandservice,yourBCshouldprovideyearsofenjoyment.
Maintenanceandcareproceduresmustbeobservedandareasfollows:
1.Rinse the BCthoroughlyinsideandoutwithfreshwateraftereveryuse(donotuseany
aggressivesolventand/orcleansingliquid).
• FilltheBCInnerBladder,approximately1/4fullwithcleanfreshwaterthroughtheOralvalve.
• OrallyinatetheBCandshaketodistributewaterinsideoftheBC.
• HoldtheBCupsidedown,depresstheOralValveButton,andallowallwaterandair
todrainfromtheOralValvemouthpiece.
• Repeatoneortwomoretimes.
• RinsetheentireBCwithfreshwaterbydippinginatuborsprayingwithahose.
• Rinseallvalvestomakesureallsandandotherdebrisisremoved.
2.Dry the BC:ifhanging,makesureitisnotindirectsunlight.Drycompletelyifstoring,
slightlyinated.

Avoid prolonged or repeated exposure to chlorinated water, such as in swimming

water can oxidize fabrics and materials on your BC, thereby shortening their life,

Due to heavy usage, BCs used for rental/diving centres, professional purposes or
other intensive use must be checked at least every 6 months. Overall conditions
and main safety parts such as the bladder, valves, elbow, corrugated hose, BPI
must be inspected. If any of the above parts shows wear or diminished performance
it should be replaced immediately or removed from usage, if replacement is not
possible.

Use of gas mixtures with increased oxygen, or the addition of
helium or other substances, may cause corrosion, deterioration, premature aging
or component failure of metal and rubber parts. These actions may result in loss
of buoyancy control or air holding integrity of the BC, resulting in injury or death.
Non-standard gas mixtures may also present a risk of re or explosion. Use only
nitrogen/oxygen mixtures containing up to 40% oxygen.
