Getting Started
Set up a user profile so your children can enjoy all the activities
and games1provided by Genio, My First Laptop.
1. CHARGE your Genio using the supplied power adaptor.
A red light indicates charging is in progress. The light
will change to green when the device is fully charged. A
full charge will take about 3.5 hours. The battery should
be fully charged before first use or before attempting a
firmware update.
2. CREATE the first user profile and set the system Date
and Time. You may also want to set a passcode to keep
the profile secure.
3. UNLOCK the VTech Web Browser and Learning LodgeTM
apps with the Parental Controls.
• Connect to Wi-Fi2in Device Settings >> Wi-Fi Settings.
• Unlock the VTech Web Browser under Child Profile
Manager >> App Permissions.
• Register or login to a Learning Lodge™ account in Learning
Lodge™ Account Registration, and make sure Learning
Lodge™ is unlocked under Child Profile Manager >> App
Permissions.
4. EXPLORE the word processor, learn with revision sheets,
enjoy fun learning games and more!

Introduction
Genio, My First Laptop, introduces children into the world of
computers and the Internet in a safe way. There are over 80 activities
and games included that children can interact with using the real
mouse and QWERTY keyboard.
With the pre-loaded word processor, children can create their own
written documents. Templates are provided to offer an easy way
for children to create greetings cards, letters and other types of
document. Export and save the documents to a microSD card (not
included) for printing.
There are 20 printable Revision Sheets available to help children study
maths, language, history and more. Creative topics are also included
for fun activities, including origami.
A kid-friendly Web Browser is pre-loaded, so children can search for
more information to help with their studies online. Using the Diary
and Calendar provided, this laptop can also help children develop
autonomy and learn about forward planning.
For leisure time, children can use Genio to enjoy their favourite music
and videos, or play the 40+ games and e-books included.

removable tags, cable ties, cords and packaging screws are not part of
this toy and should be discarded for your child’s safety.

Keyboard layout
Genio is equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard which is similar to a
typical computer keyboard.
In addition to the letter and number keys, there are also some function
keys:
Function keys: Function description:
Esc: Close a dialogue box, pop up menu or pull down
menu.
Tab: When typing, use this key to insert a tab stop at the
beginning of a line.
Caps Lock: When the Caps Lock is ON and the Caps
Lock indicator is illuminated, all letters will be typed in
capitals.
Page Up: If a scroll bar is available, this will scroll the
screen upwards by one page.
Page Down: If a scroll bar is available, this will scroll the
screen downwards by one page.
Hme (Home): When typing, return the cursor to
the beginning of the current line. When reviewing a
document with a scroll bar, press this key to reset the
scroll bar to the top of the page.
Space Bar: When typing, insert a space between
words, letters or numbers.
Shift: Press this key together with a letter key to
capitalise the letter. You can also use this key to access
the alternate letters or symbols coloured orange.

Ctrl: Press this key together with other keys to perform
shortcut functions in the Word Processor. Please refer to
table below for more details.

End: When typing, move the cursor to the end of the
Current line. When reviewing a document with a scroll
bar, press this key to advance the scroll bar to the foot
of the page.
Alt: Use this key to access the alternate letters or
symbols coloured blue.
Arrow Keys: When typing, use these keys to move the
cursor up, down, left or right, respectively.
Enter: When typing, press this to add a new line. You
can also press this key to confirm a selection.
Delete: Delete the current character or space to the
right of the cursor.
Backspace: Erase the character or space to the left of
the cursor.

Parental Controls
To enter Parental Controls, click the Parental Controls icon at the
bottom right corner of the profile selection screen.
Using Parental Controls, you can control the way your children play by
adding or removing apps, setting time limits, managing access to the Web,
and adjusting device settings. If your child has forgotten the passcode
they have set, you can also help them to reset the passcode here.
Adding or Removing Apps
Browse Learning Lodge™ for a selection of age-appropriate, educational
apps that have been approved by VTech®learning experts. Manage any
content purchased from Learning Lodge™ in Download Manager.
Setting Time Limits
Select Time Limits under Child Profile Manager to limit the amount of
time your children can play each day, or to mark certain hours of the
day as off limits.
Note: We recommend the use of these screen Time Limits. For more
information and some easy to follow tips on screen time for both
parents & children please refer to www.vtech.co.uk/screentime.
Managing Web Access
By default, the Web Browser is OFF until enabled through the
passcode-protected App Permissions under Child Profile Manager.
Although VTech®makes every effort to ensure a child-friendly
browsing environment, the content of individual websites may change
without VTech's knowledge. Please be sure to monitor your child's
online experience.

Resetting Child Passcode
If your child has forgotten the passcode they have set, please enter
Reset Child Passcode under Child Profile Manager and click the Reset
icon to remove the existing passcode.
If You Forget Your Parental Controls Passcode
If you forget your passcode for Parental Controls, go to the passcode
screen, press the Down Arrow key, Spacebar, Delete key and Help
button at the same time. Then, your passcode will be removed and
you can set a new Parent passcode.
Charging your Genio, My First Laptop
To charge Genio, connect the supplied power adaptor to the Power
Adaptor Port on the device. Then, plug the adaptor into a power
socket.

Inserting a MicroSD Card
You can insert a microSD memory card (not included) into your Genio
to save and export all your creations and documents. The Genio is
compatible with microSD memory cards up to 128GB.
• Make sure the Genio is turned off.
• Insert the microSD card as shown above.
Care & Maintenance
1. Keep your Genio out of direct sunlight and away from direct
sources of heat.
2. Turn off your Genio when not using it for an extended period of time.
3. Avoid dropping your Genio and NEVER try to dismantle it.
4. Always keep your Genio away from water.
5. This toy contains batteries that are non-replaceable.

giving this toy to a child make sure there are no signs of damage.
