The VARI❋LITE VLX3 Wash Luminaire is the next step in
Vari-Lite’s solid-state lighting journey. A step that gives
designers one of the most versatile LED lighting tools to
meet any demanding production or lighting need – from
small to large venues, concert touring, or television
studio.
Based on Philips Vari-Lite’s award-winning VLX Wash
luminaire technology, the VLX3 wash gives you all the
benefits of LED technology with the best visual
performance characteristics of traditional automated
luminaires. Using three powerful LED engines, the VLX3
wash offers stunning colors and intensity, multi-year
source life and high reliability. Combined with low
energy consumption and maintenance costs, the
VARI*LITE VLX3 wash continues to elevate the bar for all
other LED fixtures.
Three, replaceable custom 120 watt RGBW LED chipsets
provide output that offers three times the efficacy of
comparable tungsten sources. The total system provides
approximately greater than 6,000 lumens of white light
output, and the 10,000 hour source life of the chip
ensures that lamp replacement costs are a thing of the
past. The luminaire offers 70% lumen intensity
maintenance over that time guarantees that the VLX3
wash will remain powerful and bright well into the future.
With an optical system from the leader in automated
lighting, color mixing is smooth, natural, and free of
"color shadowing" effects associated with other LED
fixtures. Additionally, the VLX3 wash offers a dynamic
CRI adjustment, a continuously adjustable color
temperature white range between approximately 3000
and 9000 Kelvin, and seamless color mixing that all
combine to create a single source that behaves like
familiar arc or tungsten luminaires without the
associated costs and inefficiencies inherent in those
systems.
Beam size control is achieved by the use of an optical
zoom system that offers a zoom range from
approximately 15 to 55 degrees. Accessory mounting
points are included allowing the attachment of additional,
aftermarket beam control devices such as an extendible
top hat.
All movements are smooth, silent, and accurate under
the control of the time-proven Vari-Lite three-phase
motor system with a full 540 degrees of pan and 240
degrees of tilt control.
The luminaire offers five-pin DMX in and thru connectors
and a backlit menu panel for easy installation and
operation. Control is achieved through a variety of DMX
consoles and output devices. Large, rugged
handles insure easy installation, and subdued
style and understated lines allow for seamless
integration into any lighting rig or stage setting.
Pan and tilt transport/service locks and low
fixture weight make moving the VLX3 wash
as simple and efficient as it is to operate.

Specifications
The unit is an integrally designed, remote-controlled,
motorized wash luminaire. The head, yoke, and enclosure
housings are constructed of aluminum alloy, plastic and
steel for lightweight strength and durability. Virtually silent,
variable fans shall be used to provide forced-air cooling for
internal components.
A single AC input connector along with two, five-pin
DMX512 compatible connectors (in and through) are
provided. The unit can be controlled by a wide variety of
DMX512 consoles. In addition, a built-in Master/Slave
function enables operation of multiple luminaires without a
control console.
Each unit is equipped with multiple on-board processors
providing diagnostic and self-calibration functions as well
as internal test routines and software update capabilities.
The unit contains two independent three-phase stepper
motors to provide movement of the head through 540° in
the horizontal plane (pan) and 240° in the vertical plane
(tilt). The pan and tilt mechanisms are belt-driven,
providing positional resolution and repeatability of 0.3° on
either axis.
The unit shall include three RGBW LED engines for
full-range color mixing and that provides full field dimming
- allowing for both smooth timed fades and fast blackouts.
The LED engines will operate as a strobe system that is
capable of various strobe effects. The unit’s optical
system shall have a variable beam that offers an
adjustable field angle from 15° to 55° and be able to
replicate color temperatures from 3000K to 9000K.
The unit is ETL and ETLc certified and CE marked.

The VLX wash gives you all the benefits of LED

optical zoom system that offers a zoom range from
approximately 23 to 58 degrees. Should a tighter beam
be desired, the entire zoom system can be easily
removed from the luminaire for a fixed field angle of 22
degrees. Accessory mounting points are included
allowing the attachment of additional, aftermarket
beam control devices such as an extendible top hat.

The VARI❋LITE VL400 Spot luminaire is compact
and economical but still loaded with powerful and
useful features. This new series of luminaire from
Philips Vari-Lite provides lighting designers with
effective and creative tools for any venue or
production size.
The VL400 Spot luminaire comes complete with all
of the optical quality and functionality designers
have come to expect from Philips Vari-Lite. It is
small, lightweight, and fast with a with a 400-watt
MSR Gold 400 MiniFastFit lamp, very impressive
lumen output, a zoom range from 15º to 36º, and a
mechanical iris for continuous beam control. A drop
in frost glass assembly allows users to soften the
overall beam, allowing for additional beam control.
Built in mounting points on the front of the
luminaire provide for easy attachment of
after-market accessories such as top hats.
To add to these features, the VL400 Spot luminaire
provides 14 fixed colors on two independent color
wheels for rich color projection and snap color
changes. In addition, a dual-purpose mechanical
blade system provides smooth timed fades or
variable strobe effects. The VL400 Spot luminaire’s
powerful pan and tilt motors provide smooth, fast
time-controlled continuous motion capable of 0.3°
resolution with a pan range of 540° and tilt of
260°.
For image projection, the fixture has one gobo
wheel with seven rotatable and indexable positions
and a second gobo wheel with ten fixed positions.

The rear cap is removable, providing easy access to the
lamp for replacement. A single AC input connector along
with two, five-pin DMX512 compatible connectors (in and
through) are provided. The unit can be controlled by a wide
variety of DMX512 consoles. In addition, a built-in
Master/Slave function enables operation of multiple
luminaires without a control console.
Each unit is equipped with multiple on-board processors
providing diagnostic and self-calibration functions as well as
internal test routines and software update capabilities. The
unit contains two independent three-phase stepper motors
to provide movement of the head through 540° in the
horizontal plane (pan) and 260° in the vertical plane (tilt).

The unit shall include a color mixing system using two
independent wheels containing fourteen interchangeable
color filters which are provided for a broad range of user
color selection and snap color changes in .14 seconds. The
unit comes equipped with a standard palette of dichroic
color filters (custom colors are available from Vari-Lite).
The unit shall include a fixed gobo wheel that holds 10
interchangeable gobos. The unit shall include a second gobo
wheel containing seven individually rotating indexable
gobos. Its operation is achieved by two motors, which
provide independent drive regardless of the direction of
movement. All seven rotating gobos are easily
interchangeable to allow further customization of the unit.
The unit shall come equipped with 17 standard gobo
patterns and effects. A wide selection of gobos are
available from Vari-Lite for an additional charge. The unit
shall accept metal gobos in all positions.
The unit contains dual-purpose mechanical arm assembly
that provides full field dimming and allows for both smooth
timed fades and fast blackouts and will operate as a strobe
system that is capable of various strobe effects. A
mechanical iris provides continuous beam size control for
both rapid changes and smooth timed beam angle changes.
Variable beam focus is provided to soften the edges of
gobos or spots and to provide gobo morphing. A powerful
zoom lens system offers an adjustable field angle from 15°
to 36°. When used in combination with the beam size iris,
the unit can project a beam with a field angle of 8°.
The unit shall offer frost capability with an independent,
drop-in armature that holds frost glass. Additionally, unit
shall have a second, independent, drop-in armature that
holds a rotating, four facet, indexable prism. Both the frost
and prism pieces shall be interchangeable. Unit shall have
frontal accessory mounting points for attachment of
after-market accessories such as top hats.
The unit is ETL and ETLc certified and CE marked. Exterior

Specifications
The unit is an integrally designed, remote-controlled,
motorized spot luminaire. The head, yoke, and enclosure
housings are constructed of aluminum alloy, plastic and steel
for lightweight strength and durability. Virtually silent, variable
fans shall be used to provide forced-air cooling for internal
components.
The rear cap is removable, providing easy access to the lamp
for replacement. A single AC input connector along with two,
five-pin DMX512 compatible connectors (in and through) are
provided. The unit can be controlled by a wide variety of
DMX512 consoles. In addition, a built-in Master/Slave
function enables operation of multiple luminaires without a
control console.
Each unit is equipped with multiple on-board processors
providing diagnostic and self-calibration functions as well as
internal test routines and software update capabilities. The
unit contains two independent three-phase stepper motors to
provide movement of the head through 540° in the horizontal
plane (pan) and 260° in the vertical plane (tilt). The pan and
tilt mechanisms are belt-driven, providing positional resolution
and repeatability of 0.3° on either axis. Unit shall have integral
pan and tilt transport/service locks.
The unit shall include a CYM color-mixing system using three
wheels which are provided for a broad range of user color
selection. In addition to the CYM system, a fixed color wheel
with eight interchangeable colors is included for specific color
requirements and snap color changes in .14 seconds. The
unit comes equipped with a standard palette of dichroic color
filters (custom colors are available from Vari-Lite).
The unit shall include a fixed gobo wheel that holds 10
interchangeable gobos. The unit shall include a second gobo
wheel containing seven individually rotating indexable gobos.
Its operation is achieved by two motors, which provide
independent drive regardless of the direction of movement.
All seven rotating gobos are easily interchangeable to allow
further customization of the unit. The unit shall come equipped
with 17 standard glass gobo patterns and effects. A wide
selection of gobos are available from Vari-Lite for an additional
charge. The unit shall accept metal gobos in all positions.
The unit contains a coated glass dimmer wheel that provides
full field dimming and allows for both smooth timed fades and
fast blackouts. A high-performance, dual blade strobe system
is operated with two motors and is capable of various strobe
effects. A mechanical iris provides continuous beam size
control for both rapid changes and smooth timed beam angle
changes. Variable beam focus is provided to soften the edges
of gobos or spots and to provide gobo morphing. A powerful
zoom lens system offers an adjustable field angle from 15° to
36°. When used in combination with the beam size iris, the
unit can project a beam with a field angle of 8°.
The unit shall offer frost capability with an independent,
drop-in armature that holds frost glass. Additionally, unit shall
have a second, independent, drop-in armature that holds a
rotating, four facet, indexable prism. Both the frost and prism
pieces shall be interchangeable. Unit shall have frontal
accessory mounting points for attachment of after-market
accessories such as top hats.
The unit is ETL and ETLc certified and CE marked. Exterior
finish is black.

Back by popular demand, the VARI❋LITE VL550
Wash luminaire is based upon the Emmy®
Award-winning VL5 Wash luminaire, but with
significant design improvements. The drive
system quiets all two-phase motors both when
moving and static. Three-phase, ultra quiet
stepper motors provide for smooth and quiet
pan and tilt operation.
The patented and innovative DICHRO❋TUNE
radial color mixing system employs three sets of
16 radially mounted dichroic blades – magenta,
blue, and amber – designed to produce a
smooth, full spectrum of color cross-fades.
This luminaire is also available with pastel
versions of the standard colors. The pastel
colors offer a softer Broadway-type color palette
often used in live theater.
The VL550 wash utilizes 16 radially mounted
diffuser planes control beam spread. For
additional beam control, the VL550 may be
purchased with six interchangeable lens options,
including clear, stipple (included in stock fixture),
8-row, 10-row, 12-row, and Buxom.
The VL550 is designed with natural convection
cooled lamps, and internally cooled electronics
which utilize low velocity, low noise micro-fans.
Two on-demand fans are mounted internally in
the yoke arms and activate only in extreme
conditions where ambient temperature exceeds
41˚ C, or if the fixture is mounted in a horizontal
position. User override is possible through the
unit’s menu display.
The VL550 is a stand-alone fixture with no
additional on-board equipment required, except
for an external dimmer. Simply plug in DMX512
and power, and the VL550 may be controlled
through a variety of DMX512 lighting control
consoles.
The VL550 comes standard with an on-board,
backlit, invertible LCD display. This enhanced
display is easy to read with or without
the backlight on.

access to the lamp and lens for replacement.
Each unit shall be equipped with an on-board
microprocessor to control all actions of the luminaire,
providing diagnostic and self-calibration functions, as well as
internal test routines and software update capabilities.
Each unit shall have three-color changers holding a
minimum of 16 frames of standard dichroic media (magenta,
blue, and amber), or with a pastel color mixing set as
requested by the specifier, providing a full spectrum of color
cross-fades, with a wide range in the saturated colors.
Each unit shall contain one diffuser mechanism holding a
minimum of 16 glass diffuser panels that intercept the beam
and provide continuous time variable diffusion range for
each of the available lenses. Unit shall utilize a drive system
that quiets all two-phase motors both when moving and
static. Unit shall utilize three-phase, ultra quiet stepper
motors for smooth and quiet pan and tilt operation.
Each unit shall use a 120VAC / 1200W, or a 230VAC /
1000W, tungsten halogen lamp, with a 3200-degree color
temperature output, and shall be natural convection cooled
with the added use of on-demand micro-fan control.
Pastel (Dichroic Glass) Feature:
Pastel Color Feature: As an option, the luminaire shall be
made available with “pastel” or lighter colored magenta and
blue color filters. The luminaire, fitted with pastel-colored
dichroic glass, shall maintain the electrical specifications of
the standard version of the VL550 Wash luminaire.

The VARI❋LITE VL770 Spot luminaire is compact
and economical but still loaded with powerful and
useful features. This new series of luminaire from
Philips Vari-Lite provides lighting designers with
effective and creative tools for any venue or
production size.
The VL770 Spot luminaire comes complete with all
of the optical quality and functionality designers
have come to expect from Philips Vari-Lite. It is
small, lightweight, and fast with a 700-watt MSR
Gold™ MiniFastFit lamp, very impressive lumen
output, a zoom range from 15º to 36º, and a
mechanical iris for continuous beam control. A drop
in frost glass assembly allows users to soften the
overall beam, allowing for additional beam control.
Built in mounting points on the front of the
luminaire provide for easy attachment of
after-market accessories such as top hats.
The VL770 Spot luminaire provides brilliant color
mixing with its three-wheel CYM color assembly
based on the widely praised Series 3000 color
system. When combined with eight standard colors
on a fixed wheel, the color options are practically
limitless.
Additionally, a coated glass dimmer wheel provides
smooth fades, and a separate dual-blade strobe
system offers quiet and reliable strobe effects. The

Specifications
The unit is an integrally designed, remote-controlled,
motorized spot luminaire. The head, yoke, and enclosure
housings are constructed of aluminum alloy, plastic and steel
for lightweight strength and durability. Virtually silent, variable
fans shall be used to provide forced-air cooling for internal
components.
The rear cap is removable, providing easy access to the lamp
for replacement. A single AC input connector along with two,
five-pin DMX512 compatible connectors (in and through) are
provided. The unit can be controlled by a wide variety of
DMX512 consoles. In addition, a built-in Master/Slave
function enables operation of multiple luminaires without a
control console.
Each unit is equipped with multiple on-board processors
providing diagnostic and self-calibration functions as well as
internal test routines and software update capabilities. The
unit contains two independent three-phase stepper motors to
provide movement of the head through 540° in the horizontal
plane (pan) and 260° in the vertical plane (tilt). The pan and
tilt mechanisms are belt-driven, providing positional resolution
and repeatability of 0.3° on either axis. Unit shall have integral
pan and tilt transport/service locks.
The unit shall include a CYM color-mixing system using three
wheels which are provided for a broad range of user color
selection. In addition to the CYM system, a fixed color wheel
with eight interchangeable colors is included for specific color
requirements and snap color changes in .14 seconds. The
unit comes equipped with a standard palette of dichroic color
filters (custom colors are available from Vari-Lite).
The unit shall include a fixed gobo wheel that holds 10
interchangeable gobos. The unit shall include a second gobo
wheel containing seven individually rotating indexable gobos.
Its operation is achieved by two motors, which provide
independent drive regardless of the direction of movement.
All seven rotating gobos are easily interchangeable to allow
further customization of the unit. The unit shall come equipped
with 17 standard glass gobo patterns and effects. A wide
selection of gobos are available from Vari-Lite for an additional
charge.
The unit contains a coated glass dimmer wheel that provides
full field dimming and allows for both smooth timed fades and
fast blackouts. A high-performance, dual blade strobe system
is operated with two motors and is capable of various strobe
effects. A mechanical iris provides continuous beam size
control for both rapid changes and smooth timed beam angle
changes. Variable beam focus is provided to soften the edges
of gobos or spots and to provide gobo morphing. A powerful
zoom lens system offers an adjustable field angle from 15° to
36°. When used in combination with the beam size iris, the
unit can project a beam with a field angle of 8°.
The unit shall offer frost capability with an independent,
drop-in armature that holds frost glass. Additionally, unit shall
have a second, independent, drop-in armature that holds a
rotating, four facet, indexable prism. Both the frost and prism
pieces shall be interchangeable. Unit shall have frontal
accessory mounting points for attachment of after-market
accessories such as top hats.
The unit is ETL and ETLc certified and CE marked. Exterior
finish is black.

The VARI❋LITE VL880 Spot luminaire is compact
and economical but still loaded with powerful and
useful features. This new series of luminaire from
Philips Vari-Lite provides lighting designers with
effective and creative tools for any venue or
production size.
The VL880 Spot luminaire comes complete with all
of the optical quality and functionality designers
have come to expect from Philips Vari-Lite. It is
small, lightweight, and fast with a 800-watt MSR
Platinum 35 lamp, very impressive lumen output, a
zoom range from 15º to 36º, and a mechanical iris
for continuous beam control. A drop in frost glass
assembly allows users to soften the overall beam,
allowing for additional beam control. Built in
mounting points on the front of the luminaire
provide for easy attachment of after-market
accessories such as top hats.
