3.Functional specifications
The MC3-EGA is developed as an interface to a Modbus RTU based Ethylene (C2H4) analyser.
The concentration information is relayed to Proba-5 banana ripening systems, which request
the information via Ethernet. The MC3-EGA supporst at most 16 channels on the analyser, but
the actual number available depends on the analyser that is connected.
The MC3-EGA will continuously sample each channel one after another and transmit the
measured concentration to the proba. The frequency by which the channels are sampled is
dictated by the ripening phase of the proba. For each phase a desired sample interval can be
set. The phases are:
·Gas valve open
·Gassing phase (when the concentration drop to low new gas will be added)
·Rest of ripening phase (days 2 and further)
·Switched off (no fruit is in the room)
For the first phase the value should be set to zero, the analyser will continue to measure the
concentration and notify the proba as long as the gas valve is open. Other values are reserved
for possible future updates.
For the other three phases the interval can be set in minutes f.i. 15 during gas phase, 60 during
rest of ripening and 720 when switched off.
The MC3-EGA uses UDP/IP broadcasts to communicate with the proba’s therefore it is
nessesary for all controllers to be in the same TCP/IP subnet. The default installation is set up
this way. For more information consult your network administrator/supplier.
The MC3-EGA is also equipped with an digital input board. These inputs can be used to indicate
the status of the ethelene gas supply. At most two ethelene gas packs can be connected to the
controller. When the ethelene pack is empty an alarm will be generated and after an adjustable
delay the proba will close its gas valve and the MC3-EGA will continue to sample the next
channel.

4. Installation
The connection diagram of the MC3-EGA indicates how the RS485, Ethernet and 12V power
have to be connected.
The MC3-EGA will be connected to a TCP/IP network and can be set to use a static IP address or
to use a DHCP server to obtain one.
The interface module to connecte the analyser to the MC3-EGA are connected to the connector
on the top left of the PCB.

5.Network settings
The MC3-EGA will be connected to a TCP/IP network and can be set to use a static IP address or
to use a DHCP server to obtain one.
In order to make a connection to the controller, it must be given an IP address. The IP-address
can be configured using “VDH IP configurator” (VDH_Conf). (downloadable from the VDH
Products website, named: “VDH IP configurator” Configuration programm for Ethernet ports).
This program can search for connected VDH MC3 controllers and using the MAC-address of the
MC3, the IP-address can be obtained.
Start the program and select an interface. Press scan to search for available MC3 controllers. All
found devices will be listed. Both MAC-address and IP address will be shown.
The MAC-address of the MC3-EGA is printed on a sticker which is placed mounting plate. Using
this MAC-address, the device can be selected in the list.
Select the device and alter the network settings as desired. Enter the password (default: admin)
and click on the button “Set” to change the network settings of the selected MC3.
Note:
By default the MC3-EGA uses IP address: 192.168.250.101

6.Webinterface
By navigating to the config part of the MC3-FC-C (http://192.168.250.101/config) the webpage
is shown which allowes the userto adjust some some configuration items.
By selecting the option Service on the menu on the left, the following submenu appears:
The following actions can be performed here:
-MC3-EGA parameters, adjust the internal settings of the controller see par. 7
-Change password, the MC3-EGA has two possible loggedin users (user and admin) and
this page allowes the loggedin user to change its password.
-Change time settings, this shows a page to change the time zone of the MC3-EGA or its
internal date/time.
-Change network settings, enter a new IP-address or switch the controller to DHCP.
-Reboot controller, use sparingly
-Set configuration, upload a hardware configuration file or copy the settings from another
unit in the network.

9.Configuring Modbus access
External access by Modbus can be configured using settings on a web page. To view the web
page the computer has to be connected with an Ethernet cable to a network switch. Use a web
browser to connect to the MC3-EGA by entering http://<ip.address>/config in the address bar
of the browser. The default address of the controller is 192.168.250.101.
To define who can access what on the controller the administrative user/password combination
has to be entered after pressing the Modbus button.
The default settings are that the VASP server and the controlling touch panel have full access to
the system.
For each ip address the level of access is defined; as is the number of sub nodes that can be
queried. The priority is used to define how many messages per minute are allowed. When a
client exceeds this amount replies are delayed until the level returns to the desired level. Short
bursts of higher throughput are allowed. Using the Modbus profiles page different levels of
access can be defined. This is left to be described in a different manual.
