Intro
Thank you for choosing the Dark Times Delay pedal from
Vein-Tap.com! It’s a beautiful, analogue voiced delay pedal
with a couple of brilliant features which make it sure to be a
permanent part of your pedalboard.
This manual will take you through the Dark Times’controls.

Pedal Diagram
1. Power Jack –plug a standard, centre negative 9v power
supply here. Most standard power supplies will work
here: if it’ll power a Boss pedal, it’ll power the Dark
Times Delay.
2. Input –plug your guitar, or the previous effects pedal in
your chain, in here.

3. Output –plug your amp, or the next pedal in your chain,
in here.
4. Bypass Footswitch –turn the effect on and off with this
soft touch footswitch.
5. Engage LED –this LED will light when the effect is
engaged.
6. Effects Loop Send –plug the input of the first pedal in
the Dark Times’Effects Loop here.
7. Effects Loop Return –plug the output of the last pedal in
the Dark Times’Effects Loop here.
8. Effects Loop Blend control –controls the ratio of dry to
wet the delay repeats will have. Set to 1 for fully wet,
and 11 for fully dry. If the Send and Return jacks are
empty, this control is occluded.
9. Delay Time control –controls how much time there is
between delay repeats. Goes from 35ms at 1 to 950ms
at 11.
10. Delay Mix control –controls how loud the delay repeats
are. Goes from totally silent at 1 to slightly louder than
unity at 11.

11. Repeats control –controls how many repeats the Dark
Times will give. Goes from one single repeat at 1 to self-
oscillation at 11. Be careful with this control: in its higher
stages the repeats will become louder than the original
signal, and run away with themselves. You have been
warned.

The Delay
The delay section of the Dark Times is pretty special in and of
itself. It keep your original signal completely analogue, and
uses a digital chip specifically designed to sound like the
analogue BBD chips of old. This means you get full, lush,
analogue-sounding delay with a few modern advantages.
The first of these advantages is the increased delay time.
Almost all analogue delays can’t manage more than 300ms of
delay: the Dark Times more than triples that to up to 950ms
of delay time. As the delay time is increased, the repeats
degrade and darken, just like a real analogue delay. You get
the best of both worlds!
The Repeats control goes from one single repeat to insane
self-oscillation, where the repeats then repeat on themselves
and the repeats then repeat on themselves and the repeats
then repeat on themselves.
The Dark Times’signal circuit is also designed to sound
articulate and present even with modern distortion tones.
But that’s not all.

The Effects Loop
What makes the Dark Times Delay truly special is its effects
loop. Using this loop, you can use other effects to change the
sound of the delay repeats. The only limit here is your
imagination. You can put any effect, or any combination of
effects, in here: fuzz, tremolo, and phaser all work well here.
Pitch shifting is particularly good.
This can be done on some other delay pedals, but what
makes the Dark Times truly unique is the Effects Loop Blend
control. This control allows you to select any ratio of dry to
wet signal, allowing you to be more subtle if you choose.
Experiment with the Dark Times’effects loop and effects
loop blend control, and you’ll be able to create custom delay
sounds that have never been heard before.
