1. Introduction
To all residents of the European Union

2. Safety Instructions
Keep this device away from children and unauthorized users.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical,
sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been
given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for
their safety.
Children shall be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
The white LEDs, which illuminate the microscope target field, are very bright. Do not stare
directly into these LEDs as it may damage your eyes.
3. General Guidelines
Refer to the Velleman® Service and Quality Warranty on the last pages of this manual.
Keep this device away from dust and extreme temperatures.
Protect this device from shocks and abuse. Avoid brute force when operating the device.
Familiarise yourself with the functions of the device before actually using it.
All modifications of the device are forbidden for safety reasons. Damage caused by user modifications
to the device is not covered by the warranty.
Only use the device for its intended purpose. Using the device in an unauthorised way will void the
warranty.
Damage caused by disregard of certain guidelines in this manual is not covered by the warranty and
the dealer will not accept responsibility for any ensuing defects or problems.
Do not switch the device on immediately after it has been exposed to changes in temperature.
Protect the device against damage by leaving it switched off until it has reached room temperature.
Keep this manual for future reference.

5. Getting Started
5.1 Software Installation
Windows®
1. Insert the included CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
2. Double-click the xploview v3.2.xx.exe icon located on the CD-ROM.
3. Follow the setup wizard and install the application software.
Mac®OS
1. Insert the included CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
2. Double-click the xploview v3.2.xx.dmg icon located on the CD-ROM.
3. Drag the xploview icon into the Applications folder.
5.2 Connecting the Microscope
Connect the microscope to a powered USB port.
5.3 Starting the Software
Windows®
Double-click on the xploview icon on your desktop to start the software.
Mac®OS
Double-click on the xploview icon in the Applications folder to start the software.
NOTE
When the device is connected for the first time, a driver will automatically
be installed. This process could take up to a few minutes.
Each time when the xploview software is started, the device should start
automatically. Otherwise, the device can be selected from the device setup
section of the system settings menu.
5.4 Installing a Slide
Place a prepared specimen slide on the specimen stage and slide it into the clips, such that the clips hold
the slide securely.

6. Basic Operation
6.1 Selecting a Light Source
This digital microscope features two light sources: one located above the stage for incident illumination
and one underneath the stage providing transmitted illumination.
After connection, the illumination will automatically switch on. Press the selector switch to toggle
between the two modes.
Press once to toggle between the light modes.

6.2 Selecting a Magnification Rate
The objective turret can be rotated both ways –
clockwise or anticlockwise.
Start with the least powerful objective L1. Rotate
the objective turret such that the objective is
directly on top of the specimen. Rotate the turret
to select a more powerful objective if needed.
6.3 Focusing
Rotate the focusing knob clockwise or anticlockwise until the image is sharp. Make sure the objective is
clear from obstacles and does not hit the specimen while lowering the turret.

6.4 Taking a Snapshot
Press the snapshot button to take a snapshot.
7. Using the Software
7.1 Menu Buttons
System Settings Menu.
Start/stop Video
Recording.
Capture on-screen
image.
Information of the
application software.
Start/stop Timed Shot.
Images will be captured
at a regular interval.
Shut down the software.
7.2 Full-Screen Viewing
To activate the full-screen mode, click the full-screen button on the bottom right of the window.
To exit the full-screen mode, either double-click on the screen or press the Esc button on the keyboard.

7.3 Image Rotation/Flip
Click the rotate button to rotate or flip the image.
7.4 System Settings Menu
The first time the xploview software is started, the default settings will be loaded. You may change these
settings manually in the system settings menu.
Device Setup
If the image captured was not displayed by default, you can change this by selecting it from the Device
drop-down menu.
The resolution of the image you capture can be changed from the Resolution drop-down menu.
Timed Shot Setup
Adjust the frequency and duration of automatic image capture.

Movie Setup
Modify the resolution of videos you record. You can also set a maximum file size for each video.
Save Setting
Select the saving location for captured images or videos.
Language Setting
Select the software language.
7.5 Advanced Settings
Click the More button on the right of the System Settings Menu to manually adjust all of the image
settings. Note that the available settings might differ depending on your operating system.

7.6 Saved Files
Locate your saved files by clicking the More…
option.
7.7 Uninstalling the Xploview Software
Windows®
Select the Uninstall option (Start > All Programs > xploview > Uninstall).
Mac®OS
Drag the xploview application icon from the Applications folder to the Trash folder.
8. Cleaning and Maintenance
Occasionally wipe with a damp cloth to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning
solvents or strong detergents.
