Veracity POWERPROMISE OUTREACH QUAD User manual

Extend and distribute Ethernet and PoE
OUTREACH QUAD and OUTREACH QUAD LITE let you extend and expand
your Ethernet network, with the flexi ility and relia ility of Power over
Ethernet (PoE) power.
OUTREACH QUAD (ORQ) is a five-port Ethernet switch that can forward
PoE to up to four IP cameras or similar devices. This is shown in the
diagram elow:
Installing OUTREACH QUAD dou les the range of the network, and allows
extra PoE devices to e installed rapidly, with no local AC power required.
OUTREACH QUAD LITE (ORQ-LITE) is a five-port Ethernet switch that is
powered y PoE. It provides four remote non-PoE Ethernet ports from a
single PoE-ena led Ethernet connection.

Veracity's advanced PowerPromiseTM technology (patent pending) Iimits
the num er of PoE devices that can e ena led at the same time, in order
to prevent any overload or undervoltage conditions in operation.
OUTREACH QUAD has a maximum power budget availa le, which it
allocates according to the power class of any PoE devices connected. This
is the power requested y each device, which may e higher than the
power it actually requires for operation.
You can use the ta les elow to plan your installation. Key:
Class 1 or 2 PoE device (up to 7 watts)
Class 3 device (up to 15 watts)
The first ta le lists how many PoE devices can e connected to OUTREACH
QUAD, according to which type of PoE power source is used:
PoE Source Budget Number of PoE devices supported
PoE 7 watts
OUTSOURCE 15 watts or
PoE Plus 22 watts or
OUTSOURCE PLUS 30 watts or
or
For even longer-reach applications, a single OUTREACH PLUS may e used
to extend the connection etween the PoE source and OUTREACH QUAD.
This reduces the num er of devices that can e connected, however:
PoE Source Budget Number of PoE devices supported
PoE 0 watts (no PoE availa le)
OUTSOURCE 7 watts
PoE Plus 7 watts
OUTSOURCE PLUS 22 watts or
Notes:
1. Some PoE devices are Class 0 (unclassified). OUTREACH QUAD treats these as
Class 2 devices, to avoid udget limit issues in common applications.
2. OUTREACH may e used to extend network connections from OUTREACH
QUAD's PoE Out ports, ut only if OUTSOURCE PLUS is used as the PoE source.
OUTREACH is treated as a Class 3 device
3. All network ports can e always e used as regular (non-PoE) Ethernet
connections, regardless of PoE udget availa ility
4. Operating OUTREACH QUAD with an exceeded udget is not recommended,
as different com inations of devices may e ena led following a reset

Example OUTREAC QUAD applications
Example 1: Four PoE cameras from one switch port
The OUTSOURCE PLUS is locate d near the network s wi tch a nd del ivers enhanced PoE Plus powe r to the OUTREACH QUAD. The OUTREACH
QUAD's power udget i s s uffi cient to power up to four conventi onal IP ca meras , whi ch a re typi call y cl ass 2 PoE devices .
OUTREACH QUAD res tores the Ethernet s ignal a nd forwards PoE, al lowi ng the ca mera s to e l oca ted up to 200 metres (660 feet) from the
swi tch a nd powe r s ource
Example 2: Three PoE cameras at extended range
The a dditi on of a n OUTREACH PLUS means that ca mera s can e l oca ted up to 300 metres (990 fee t) from the centra l s wi tch a nd power
source. However the reduced udget of 22 watts reduces the ma ximum num er of connected cl ass cameras to three.
The OUTREACH QUAD's s pare fourth port ca n s til l e us ed as a ne twork connection, ut no furthe r PoE power is a va il a le.
Example 3: Adding a new camera to an existing installation
An OUTREACH QUAD and an OUTSOURCE ca n e us ed to a ll ow a n extra ca me ra to e quickl y adde d to an i ns tal la tion. OUTSOURCE injects
enha nced PoE power to the origi na l ca l e a fter the network s wi tch (or PoE network s wi tch).
The OUTREACH QUAD ca n e i ns erted at a ny poi nt al ong the ca l e, a nd a llows the new PoE network connection to e “tappe d off ” the

Example 4: Expanding a network using OUTREAC QUAD LITE
OUTREACH QUAD LITE ca n e us ed as an edge s wi tch to a dd Ethernet ports to a network. It doe s not ha ve to e loca te d nea r a n e l ectri ca l
