Congratulations on the purchase of your new XClear Flow-Matic automatic backwash
system! The XClear Flow-Matic is designed and manufactured with demanding requirements
for quality, performance and reliability of the system. Every single component has been
extensively tested to ensure compliance with these stringent requirements.
OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The X-Clear Flow-Matic is an automatic backwash-system, that matches any bead filter with
side mount connections. It replaces the traditional 6-way-valves and takes care of less pressure
loss thanks to the unique flow design. The Flow-Matic uses 4 automatic 3-way-valves and a
touch-screen controller. The controller starts and stops the circulating pump and the blower
automatically and switches the automatic valves in the correct position for backwash, rinse and
filtration. The user can decide how often the Flow-Matic carries out a backwash procedure.
In addition to the automatic backwash function, the user can perform an extra (manual)
backwash by using the function in the touch-screen controller. The duration of backwash
and rinse is determined by the user. The controller can be equipped with a standard RJ45
(Ethernet) cable to control Blue Eco pumps. This way, the user can control the RPM of the Blue
Eco pump for Filtration and Backwash! This will give you the highest pump efficiency by using
a low pump speed during filtration and a higher pump speed for backwashing.
BACKWASH PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION
1. Pump switches off.
2. Valves go to backwash position.
3. Pump starts 30 seconds (fixed time). The beads (filter media) at the top of the filter are
flushed loose from the lid.
4. Valves go to the RINSE position.
5. The blower turns on. Blower time is variable from 0.5 to 5 minutes in steps of half a minute.
6. There is some water loss from the filter during the use of the air blower. The pump starts 30
seconds (fixed time) to fill the filter (valves are still in the RINSE position).
7. Valves go to BACKWASH position.
8. The pump turns on. Backwash time is variable from 0.5 to 5 minutes in steps of half a minute.
9. Valves go to the RINSE position.
10. The pump turns on. RINSE time is variable from 0.5 to 5 minutes in steps of half a minute.
Now the last debris that is left behind in the filter is drained to the sewer.
11. Valves go to FILTER position.
12. The pump starts again. Backwash procedure is finished.
Standard interval: every 7 days. Intervals: 1 to 14 days.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Warning - due to the risk of injury, this product is not suitable for use by children or
persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack
of experience or knowledge, unless they are supervised or instructed on the use of the
device by a person responsible for their safety.
2. Warning - risk of electric shock. If in doubt as to whether you have sufficient knowledge
and experience, this device must always be connected by a certified electrician, according
to the locally applicable standards and laws, with a properly earthed connection protected
by a residual-current device.
3. Warning - to reduce the risk of electric shock, a damaged cable should be replaced
immediately.
4. Warning - to reduce the risk of electric shock, the use of an extension lead is not
recommended. Connect the device to an easily accessible mains outlet.
5. Do not bury the connection lead. Never share connections and/or connection leads with
lawn mowers, hedge trimmers or other equipment.
6. Always install the device horizontally (see figure page 4 + 5).
7. Never install the unit at a location where it will be exposed to direct sunlight.
8. Keep children away from this device and the electrical lead.
9. During and after commissioning, the unit is operating and filled with water. Therefore,
to reduce the risk of electric shock, be careful during repairs and/or service work. If you
lack the necessary knowledge and experience, repair and/or service activities should be
performed by authorized/accredited technicians.
10. Never touch the appliance if it falls into the water! Disconnect the connection lead first,
before removing the unit from the water. Because electrical components are damaged
by water and therefore become unsafe, the device must be submitted to authorized/
accredited technicians for repair/maintenance.
11. The device must not be switched on if it has been damaged during or as a result of
transport, a fall, a production defect or other cause.
12. Always connect the device to an undamaged, earthed mains outlet with hinged cover.

13. Always remove the plug from the outlet when the device is not in use and/or during
cleaning and maintenance activities. The plug must be removed from the mains outlet by
pulling on the plug itself. Never pull on the lead to remove the plug from the outlet.
14. To reduce the risk of electric shock, the plug must not be inserted into or removed from
the mains outlet with wet hands and/or while you are standing in the water.
15. The device should never be immersed, in whole or in part, in water or any other liquid.
16. The connection lead of the appliance may not be shortened and/or connected directly
without a plug. If the lead becomes damaged, the entire device must be submitted to
authorized/accredited technicians. Devices with cut-off/shortened cables are excluded
from warranty coverage.
17. Use of the equipment for any purpose other than that for which it was designed or
developed is not permitted. Use of the equipment for a purpose other than that for which
it was developed by the manufacturer may lead to unsafe situations.
18. If there is a seasonal risk of freezing of the device, or parts thereof, appropriate measures
must be taken to prevent freezing damage. Damage caused by freezing is always excluded
from warranty coverage.
19. The device has an IP54 protection rating, and is splash proof. Therefore it is not suitable or
intended for outdoor installation.
20. This device may only be used in accordance with the guidelines described in this manual.
You must also adhere to the instructions provided on the device.
21. If you intend to use of the device in combination with pool chemicals, always consult the
manual(s) for this/these product(s). Pay particular attention to the safety instructions.
INSTALLATION (FIGURE 1) (SEE PAGE 4+5)
The installation must always be carried out in a dry and well-ventilated area, at a location
where it cannot be exposed to direct sunlight.
• The device must be mounted horizontally. Keep in mind to create some space around the device
for maintenance purposes. The touch screen controller should be protected against moist.
• The system was developed for 24/7 operation. If less than 24-hour operations is desired, an
automatic timer system will have to be used.
• For good, correct cleaning of the system, there must not be any back pressure at the sewer
connection. If the back pressure is excessive, the blower will not be powerful enough to clean
the bead filter optimally. In situations where this problem arises, the wastewater will have to
be discharged to a wastewater tank, which must then be pumped out by a wastewater pump
operated by a float switch.
• Check the valves for any residual packaging or other objects that can block the valve from
functioning.
1. Connect the Flow-Matic’s 63mm eccentric fittings (1) to the side connections of the
beadfilter. Most beadfilters have 1½” or 2” threaded connections when you remove the
standard multiport valve and its fittings from the tank. Use standard PVC fittings to adapt

this threading to 63mm. You can turn the unions of the eccentric fittings to position them
exactly on the in/outlet of the filter. The in/outlet of the Flow-Matic is Ø 63 mm. When your
pipe system is smaller than 63 mm you can use the supplied reducers (Ø 63 x Ø 50 mm).
You can dismantle the system, with the unions (3).
2. Place the touch-screen controller with the pipe clips (4) on the pipework near the Flow-
Matic system.
3. Connect the cables to the automatic valves with the cable connectors (5). These
connectors will only fit one way. The cables are labelled with numbers for the
corresponding valve.
4. Place the blower of your beadfilter on the check valve (6) of the Flow-Matic.
5. Remove the aluminium stand from its packing and mount the pipe clip to the stand with
the corresponding fasteners (15 figure 1). This stand supports the system so the weight of
the installation is not on the pipework and the beadfilter connections. Position the pipe
clip to the correct height by sliding it up/down inside the rail and fasten it with the hex bolt.
Put the pipe clip with nut on the bolt and fasten it. Attach the pipe clip to the Flow-Matic.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
1. Connect the plug of the circulation pump to terminal 1 (7) of the controller. Blue Eco pump
users can connect a RJ45 Ethernet cable to the female RJ45- connector (9) of both the
controllers.
2. Connect the blower to terminal 2 (8) of the controller.
3. Connect the lead of the Flow-Matic to a mains outlet that is connected according to the
locally applicable standards and laws, with a properly earthed connection protected by a
residual-current device (see also the important safety instructions.
FUSE
The fuse (10) on the side of the controller protects the controller and other components
against short circuits and overload. If the system is shut down (i.e. the pump does not work and
the touchscreen does not light up) due to a short circuit or overload, the fuse can be replaced.
Always switch off the supply voltage before replacing the fuse. Replace the fuse with the same
type: 12A slow blow.

by loosening the M5 screws (11) and allowing the water to drain out of the housing.
4. Disconnect the cables of the valves by disconnecting the plug connections.
5. Remove the entire electrical part (12), including the rotating part, from the housing. Handle
the loose parts carefully to prevent damage to the internal wiring. Grease the rubber
seal (13) and the rotating part with a maintenance product for silicone-based rubber
(recommendation: Molykote 111 compound). If the rubber seal (13) is damaged, it can
be removed and replaced by loosening the small screws (14). The rubber seal (13) can be
ordered from your distributor.
6. Please note the correct position of the seal rings when re-installing the parts.
7. You can restart the pump when all parts are re-installed into their original position. Check
the system for flow and leaks.

Komponente wurde ausgiebig getestet, um den strengen Anforderungen zu genügen.
ARBEITSWEISE
Die XClear Flow-Matic ist ein automatisches Backwash (Rückspül-) System, welches auf jeden
Beadfilter mit seitlichen Anschlüssen passen. Es ersetzt die herkömmlichen 6-Wegeventile
und sorgt für weniger Druckverlust dank des einzigartigen Durchflussdesigns. Die Flow-
Matic arbeitet mit 4 automatischen 3- Wegehähnen und einer Touchscreen Steuerung. Diese
Steuerung regelt die Zirkulationspumpe und den Blower automatisch, ebenso bringt dieser
die automatischen Hähne in die korrekte Position für Rückspülung (backwasch), Spülung
und die Filtration. Der Nutzer kann entscheiden wie oft die Flow-Matic eine Rückspülung
ausführen soll. Neben der automatischen backwasch Funktion, kann der Nutzer auch (manuell)
eine Rückspülung ausführen lassen, in dem dies im Menü des Touchscreens eingegeben wird.
Die Dauer des Rückspülens und Spülens wird durch den Nutzer bestimmt. Die Steuerung kann
mit einem Netzwerkkabel RJ45 ausgestattet werden, um eine Blue Eco Pumpe anzusteuern.
Auf diese Weise kann der Nutzer die Geschwindigkeit der Blue Eco Pumpe (Umdrehungen
pro Minute) während der Filtration und Rückspülungsprozedur einstellen. Diese Konstellation
ermöglicht dem Nutzer eine höhere Pumpeneffizienz bei z.B. einer niedrigen Drehzahl der
Pumpe während der Filtration, und einer höheren Geschwindigkeit beim Rückspülen.
BACKWASH PROCEDURE
1. Die Zirkulationspumpe schaltet sich aus.
2. Die automatischen Hähne gehen in die Position: Backwash.
3. Die Zirkulationspumpe schaltet sich für 30 Sekunden ein (vorgegebene Zeit). Die oberen
Beads (Filtermedium) am Deckel werden durch den Wasserstrahl gelöst.
4. Die automatischen Hähne stellen sich auf die Position: Spülen (RINSE).
5. Der Blower schaltet sich ein. (Der Blower ist flexibel einstellbar in Schritten von 0,5 bis 5
Minuten in Schritten von einer halben Minute).
6. Es wird während des Einschaltens des Blowers kurzzeitig zu Wasserverlust kommen. Die
Zirkulationspumpe wird in 30 Sekunden beginnen (vorgegebene Zeit) den Beadfilter zu
füllen (die automatischen Hähne stehen immer noch auf der Position: Spülen (RINSE).
7. Die automatischen Hähne bewegen sich in die Position: Backwash.

17. Eine andere Nutzung des Gerätes als vorgesehen ist nicht gestattet. Ein unsachgemäßer
Gebrauch, anders als vom Hersteller vorgesehen, kann zu Unfällen und gefährlichen
Situationen führen.
18. Sollte die Möglichkeit bestehen, dass das Gerät, auch teilweise einfriert, sind
entsprechende Vorsichtsmaßnahmen zu treffen, um Frostschäden zu vermeiden.

• Das Gerät muss horizontal montiert werden. Bitte platzieren Sie das Gerät so, dass noch
ausreichend Freiraum zur Verfügung steht um Wartungsarbeiten durchzuführen. Die
Steuerung muss so montiert werden, dass sie vor Feuchtigkeit geschützt ist
• Das System wurde entwickelt für einen 24 Std. Dauerbetrieb. Sollte eine kürzere
Tageslaufzeit gewünscht sein sollte eine automatische Zeitschaltuhr genutzt werden.
• Für eine korrekte und gute Reinigung des Systems darf im Abfluss kein Gegendruck
vorhanden sein. Bei (zu) viel Gegendruck wird der Blower nicht stark genug sein, um den
Rohrfilter optimal zu reinigen. In diesem Fall kann das Abwasser in einen Vorratsbehälter
geleitet werden, der dann mit einer Abwasserpumpe mit Füllstandsmessung entleert wird.
• Kontrollieren Sie, ob die automatischen Hähne frei sind von Verpackungsresten oder
anderen Materialien oder Gründen die zum blockieren führen könnten. Dies könnte zu
Schäden führen.
1. Verbinden Sie die exzentrischen Anschlüsse der Flow-Matic (1) mit den seitlichen
Anschlüssen des Beadfilters. Um diese exzentrischen Anschlüsse der Flow-Matic zu
montieren, können diese in die richtige Position gedreht werden, so dass der Ein- und
Auslass korrekt vor den Anschlüssen des Beadfilters auskommen. Dieser Ein- und Auslass
der Flow-Matic ist Ø 63 mm. Sollte das Leitungssystem kleiner sein als 63 mm, können
die mitgelieferten Reduzierstücke (Ø 63 x Ø 50 mm) genutzt werden. Kleben Sie diese
in den Anschluss (2) des Beadfilters. Das System kann anschließend durch das Lösen der
Muttern(3) der Anschlüsse wieder demontiert werden.
2. Montieren Sie das Touchscreen Display mit den Rohrklemmen (4) auf dem Leitungssystem
nahe dem Flow-Matic System.
3. Verbinden Sie die Kabel mit den automatischen Hähnen mit Hilfe der Stecker (5). Diese
Stecker passen nur auf eine Art und Weise. Dies ist erkennbar anhand der abgeflachten
Seite im Verbinder. An den Kabeln finden Sie eine Nummerierung die zu den
entsprechenden automatischen Hähnen gehört.
4. Platzieren Sie den Blower der zu Ihrem Beadfilter gehört, auf der Rückschlagklappe (6) der
Flow-Matic.
5. Entpacken Sie den Ständer und platzieren die Rohrklemmen auf diesem, mit Hilfe der
mitgelieferten Befestigungsmaterialien (15 Bild Seite 4+5). Dieser Ständer dient zur
Unterstützung so dass das Gewicht der Installation nicht auf dem PVC Rohrsystem und
dem Beadfilter lastet. Platzieren Sie die Rohrklemme auf der richtigen Höhe mit Hilfe des
Schiebesystems, drehen Sie das Gewinde fest, platzieren Sie die Rohrklemme mit der
Mutter auf dem Gewinde und befestigen Sie dir Rohrklemme an der Flow-Matic.
ELEKTRISCHER ANSCHLUSS
1. Der Stromanschluss der Zirkulationspumpe sollte in den Kontakt 1 (7) der Steuerung
gesteckt werden. Sollen Sie eine Blue Eco Pumpe nutzen, kann das RJ45 Netzwerkkabel
an dem RJ45 Anschluss (9) an der Steuerung angeschlossen werden.

2. Der Stromstecker des Blowers kann in die Steckvorrichtung2 (8) des Steuerungskastens
platziert werden.
3. Schließen Sie den Stecker der Flow-Matic an einen Stromanschluss an, der geerdet
ist und den örtlichen Normen und Vorschriften entspricht und mittels einer Sicherung
abgesichert ist. (Siehe hierzu auch die Sicherheitshinweise) Achten Sie auf Undichtigkeiten
während die Pumpe anläuft. Sie können das Gerät jederzeit ausschalten durch das Ziehen
des Stromsteckers.
SICHERUNG
Die Sicherung (10), an der Seite der Steuerung dient dem Schutz durch Überspannung und
Kurzschluss. Im Falle dass die Installation durch Kurzschluss oder Überspannung nicht mehr
funktioniert, bedeutet das die Pumpe nicht mehr läuft und das Display des Touchscreen nicht
mehr leuchtet, kann die Sicherung ersetzt werden. Schalten Sie immer die Stromversorgung
aus, während Sie die Sicherung ersetzen. Ersetzen Sie die Sicherung mit demselben Model:
