Chapter 1
1.1 Introduction
The document provides the CAN devices’ operation steps by commands
mode and GUI mode.
1.2 Install the driver
For example: the kernel is linux 4.4.0-21-generic
In the pathVTSoftwarePackage/kernel/
1st Install the kernel
sudo make install
2nd modprobe the driver:
sudomodprobeql_can
3rd To list the driver:
Lsmod
You must view the file:
Module Size Usedby
ql_can 24576 0

4th To confirm the device is registered through the driver in the system:
Sudo dmesg
You must view the following information:
[ 6219.240474] usb 2-2.1: Product: VTGinkgo
[ 6219.240478] usb 2-2.1: Manufacturer: ViewTool
[ 6219.240482] usb 2-2.1: SerialNumber: 385837576B6C8848
It means the driver is installed correctly.
1.3 Operation the CAN device
1.3.1 Test transmission by commands:
In the pathVTSoftwarePackage/can-utils/
1st setup the bitrate:
sudoip link set can0 type can bitrate 500000
2nd setup the transmit direction:
sudoip link set can0 up
3rd build the commands:
make clean && make

4th the command tosend data:’8877665544332211’
./cansend can0 155#8877665544332211
You may receive data on the other device side.
5th the command to receive data:
./candump can0
1.3.2 You may receive data from the other device side.
1.3.3 Test transmission by GUI:

1st Scan the device:
Note: If you find out the ViewTool device, the app will enable init button,
receive button and Send button.

2nd Init the device:
If you change the channel, you must press theinit button again.
3rd Operate the device:
èAfter you press the receive button, you may receive data.
èThe sent data is hex code.
