Q: How do I replace the printhead without manually prying open the latch?
A: Just like cleaning the printhead, chose Printhead > Scroll Down > Replace > Confirm
Q: Why is there a level sensor? Can’t I just put it on something I already know is Level?
A: The level sensor exists for the print engine inside. The print engine relies on a system of pumps and
valves, keeping it level can prevent print quality issues.
Q: When using our unwinder, I find it very difficult to get the labels on the roll; it prints so fast it
seems impossible to do, what is the trick?
A: Use the pause button on the VP700 control panel during printing.
This pause button stops printing by default for 10 seconds. You can increase the length of time it
pauses between each label in EWS, advanced settings page 2.

2. EWS (Embedded Web Server) FAQ
Q: What is the EWS? Do I need it to operate the printer?
A: EWS is the Embedded Web Server for the VP700 that contains advanced and basic controls. It is
recommended to have access to EWS to operate the printer and get the best user experience.
Q: What settings in EWS are most important to know? It seems like there’s an abundance of
different things to use….
A: EWS helps cater to specific print jobs. Without the EWS settings, the behavior of the printer is best for
roll to roll printing, one job at a time, which is how most of our customers use the VP700.
1. Printing consecutive jobs
oIf you use Roll to Roll Multiple Job Cue
2. Black marked Gap Labels
oEnables you to adjust the threshold of the reflective sensor
oAlso shows a visual diagram of how your label is being received by the sensors
3. Mid Job Servicing
oIf you receive intermittent print quality issues during, before or after mid job servicing
you can toggle or disable the interval

3. Driver and Software Settings FAQ
Q: What does the Stitch Function do?
A: Stitch allows for prints continuous media to have NO gap between each print.
The labels will print consecutively on the material leaving no space in
between each template/reproduction.
Q: What does the Buffer Function do?
A: Buffer allows for more time to render the print job data, avoiding “Data Path Underrun”(Mech 01).
The VP700 prints fast enough to beat slowly spooled print jobs containing Serialization, Databases, and
Large files and complex rasterizations.
Buffer is an option that can avoid Mech 01 from occurring on jobs from busy networks or
complex workstations.
Buffer should be selected when using serialization, multiple templates or database printing
Buffer is often selected when multiple jobs are being sent to the same printer
Q: What does the Print Pause function do?
A: Print Pause is a highly regarded feature of the VP700. It allows for more time to find the gap/register
mark and can increase the accuracy of reading each label. It is best used for small labels or full bleed
labels, and can this also be used a solution to skipping labels.
Print Pause keeps labels from skipping in many scenarios
Print Pause has also helped other accuracy issues including full bleed and Printing across gaps.

Q: What does “Mask Optimization” do?
A: Mask Optimization is a key feature of modern graphic printers; when a printer renders an image it
uses various facilities to justify where the image stops. Often, without Mask Optimization selected, you
will receive border lines that fall on the edge of the image.
Mask Optimization stops the edges of an image from having an undesired outline not in the
original image.
Q: Why is only Mask Optimization selected by default?
A: The developers felt that it was the only function universally used for every label design. Print Pause
and Buffer slow things down, though only a little bit, it was not found desirable to have these options
enabled.
Q: What are the page cutting options for? Why are there so many roll to roll modes?
A: If you have already been printing on your VP700 chances are you already know what a few of the
page cutting options do, here are exact explanations;
1. Sheets Per Cut: The selected amount of labels will print before the page is cut. For 3 sheets of 3
labels, print 9 copies and define sheets per cut as ‘3’. Sometimes called “Roll to Cut”.
2. Print and Present: The printer will hold onto one label (that is already cut) until the user remove the
label. This is to verify if your label’s parameters are correct.
Roll to Roll page cutting does not use the cutter until the job is complete
3. Roll to Roll (Leave First Label Blank): best used for print jobs requiring a rewinder.
4. Roll to Roll (Print from first label): does not waste the first label

VP700 FAQ

5. Roll to Roll means the printer prints without cutting until the job amount has been printed….
EXCEPT Multiple Job Cue.
1. Using Multiple Job Cue the printer will wait at the end of the job for 10 seconds before cutting,
during that 10 seconds if the printer receives a job it will continue to print on the roll without
cutting. This way you can have multiple jobs printed on to a single uncut roll.
2. Using EWS you can extend the window of time it takes for the printer to time out and cut the
roll.
Use the picklist to select the right amount of time for the decision. It is better
to plan ahead and have the next job sent already; however some print job orders may not allow for this,
so the window of time can be toggled in your EWS> Advanced Settings page 2.

Q: Why are my attempts to print full bleed labels not creating a full bleed print?
A: Full Bleed takes very specific settings, however these settings work on every single label
Add .04 to the Height of the label (remember to consider the orientation you are printing)
Add .08 to the Width of the label
Select Borderless
Do not allow for Margins (Edges of the media outside of the label) to be defined (make them 0)
Add up to +1.0 for the Top of Form adjustment
Add up to -2.0 for the Bottom of Form adjustment
Use the Left Edge Adjustment to Center the label in between the margins of the label

Q: When I print using “Glossy Label” on my Plain Paper label, the print looks much better than
using “Plain Paper”, why is that?
A: When Selecting Media Type the selection in the driver doesn’t have to match the actual material
used. If the setting matching your
media’s coating is not giving you the
desired results, feel free to experiment
with the other settings. Sometimes the
best setting for Matte Material is Plain
Paper, or vice versa.
Q: Should I use “landscape” if I want
to change the orientation of my
print? Or should I design it sideways
and just print portrait?
A: I would do the latter, because certain
programs including Bartender will use
the driver’s orientation to move your
label around. Adobe Acrobat,
Photoshop and Illustrator will print the
correct orientation for media in the
VP700 automatically. Design the label to
be printed as portrait for easier use.
Q: I cannot create Custom Sizes. Why?
A: If you find you Custom Sizes button is
“greyed put” the driver was installed
incorrectly. Make sure you have local
administrator permissions on the
Operating PC.

Q: What’s the best way to manually clean the printhead?
A: Though the service station is responsible for cleaning the printhead, sometimes a manual
cleaning is called for to improve print quality or enable the printhead to be read.
1. If your printhead has ink inside keep the ink port
holes up, ink can easily drip out:
2. Do not get the contacts
wet or damaged - they
are responsible for
connecting the printer to
the printhead for
operation and cannot
risk damage.
3. Use Deionized or Distilled Water and a Lint Free Cloth to clean the printhead
a. Reverse Osmosis, Purified and Mineral water etc. are all unacceptable. Trace mineral
content leads to more printhead issues without exception.
b. “Lint Free Cloth” – this is specifically referring to Clean Room Wipes and Micro Fiber
Towels that are dry. There are wet ‘lint free’ products such as moist towels and lotion
wipes that should not ever be used on the printhead. They contain chemicals such as
ethyl alcohols that are corrosive to the printhead.
4. Wipe the printhead until you do not see ink on the nozzles. Try to wipe only in one direction
and only use only the materials as specified above in step 3.

5. Mech Errors FAQ
Q: What should I do when I get a Mech Error Message on the printer’s control panel?
A: For 100% of the Errors on the VP700 we use the Log File to diagnose the issue. Even when the error is
clearly a certain failure a log file is still required to be created as they give extreme clarity to the cause of
the error.
Q: How do I save the Log File?
A: When you experience an error DO NOT TURN OFF THE PRINTER. Leave the printer on in order to
create the log file before restarting
Following are the 5 steps to create the log file:
1) First enter the start menu, go to all programs
and navigate to VIP Color. From there click
“support tools”.
2) Click “Get printer info” –this is the application
used to generate the log file.
