Introduction
Thank you for purchasing this camera. Everything you need to take quality digital photos
and videos is included with your camera.
Vivitar makes capturing those special moments as easy as possible.
Please read this manual carefully first in order to get the most out of your digital camera.
Note: Your camera needs an SD Memory card (up to 32GB) for normal use.
SD Memory cards are not included and need to be purchased separately.

1) Installing the Batteries
Your digital camera requires 3 AAA batteries in order to operate.
Alkaline batteries are recommended.
Slide and open the battery door on the bottom of the camera.
Make sure the batteries have been inserted properly into your digital camera,
according to the polarity shown inside the battery compartment, then close the
battery door.
The energy status of the power is displayed on LCD as shown below
Full battery power Medium battery power Low battery power
Note:
A “Low battery”message will flash on the LCD when the battery power is insufficient.
Shortly thereafter your camera will power off.
Please remove your batteries when you don‟t intend to use your camera for a long
time.
Do not mix alkaline and non-alkaline batteries.
Test photos taken with the camera should be downloaded otherwise they will be lost
when the camera loses power and turns off or when the battery door is opened to
replace the batteries.
2) Installing the SD Card
Make sure an SD card (up to 32 GB) has been properly inserted into your camera.
(SD card not included.)
To properly insert the SD Card:

Push the SD card into the slot in the direction shown on the camera (see SD icon
by the SD card slot on the side of the camera). Push the SD card until you hear a
slight clicking sound. This indicates the SD card has been inserted correctly.
Note:
oAfter the camera is powered on, an SD icon will appear on the LCD display. If
you do not see the SD icon on the display, please check if the card was
inserted properly.
oMake sure the SD card is not locked (check the lock switch on the side of the SD
card). If the SD card is locked thiswill prevent the camera from saving captured
photos to the SD card.
oLimited internal memory is provided for one test photo. The photo will be
deleted when the camera‟s power is turned off or if the batteries are removed.
Please download the photo before powering off.
oIf there is a photo in the internal memory when you insert the card into your
camera, a “Copy to card”message will appear on the LCD with Yes or No
options. On selecting „Yes‟ the photo will now be copied to your card.
oFormatting will delete all data on the SD memory card including protected data.
oDon‟t remove the SD card during formatting as this may damage the card and
render it unusable.
oWhen your card is full, download the media on the SD card to your PC and
delete the photos and videos from it in order to continue using your camera to
capture more high quality photos and videos.

Main Camera Modes
Your camera has different modes for the various camera functions.
You can switch modes by pressing the MODE button on your camera after the camera
has been powered ON.
Photo Capture Mode
Use this mode to capture pictures with your camera.
This is the default mode when the camera is powered ON.
To take a picture, aim your camera as desired and press the Shutter button.
The picture will be automatically saved to your camera‟s memory card.
To access the various menus for the Photo Capture mode, press the Menu (M)
button while in the Photo Capture mode.
Video Capture Mode
Use this mode to capture videos with your digital camera.
After turning on your camera, press the MODE button once to open the Video
Capture mode. To take a video, aim your camera as desired and press the
Shutter button to start the record. A red record indicator will appear on the LCD
screen while record is in progress. To stop the record, press the Shutter button
again. The video will be automatically saved to your camera‟s memory card.
To access the various menus for the Video Capture mode, press the Menu (M)
button while in the Video Capture mode.
Playback Mode (Photos & Videos)
Use this mode to view and manage the photos and videos on your camera.
After turning on your camera, press the MODE button twice to open the Playback
mode for photos and videos. You can scroll through the photos and videos that
you‟ve previously taken to view, edit or delete them as desired.
To access the various menus for the Playback mode for photos and videos, press
the Menu (M) button while in the Playback mode.

Computer System Requirements for Windows OS
To be able to download photos and videos to your PC, you will need the following
minimum configuration:
Microsoft® Windows XP with Service Pack 3, Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 or
Windows 7

Powering the Camera On/Off
Powering the camera ON
1) Make sure the batteries have been inserted properly into your digital camera.
Use 3x AAA (1.5v) batteries (not included). Alkaline batteries recommended.
2) Make sure an SD card has been properly inserted into your camera (until a click
sound is heard). SD Memory card not included.
Note: After the camera is powered on, an „SD‟ icon will appear on the LCD display.
If you do not see the SD icon on the display, please check if the card was inserted
properly.
3) Press the POWER button to turn on the camera.
4) The camera will be in Photo Capture mode to start.
Powering the camera OFF
While the camera is on, you can press the Power button again at any point to turn your
camera OFF. You will see a “Goodbye” splash screen and then the camera will power off
completely.
Auto Power OFF –Power Saving
Your digital camera also has an Auto Power Off feature that will automatically turn off
your camera after a specific period of time that your camera is left idle. The Auto
Power Off settings can be set from the Auto Power Off settings menu.

Changing the Camera Modes
Your camera has three main modes:
1) Photo Capture Mode - Use this mode to capture photos with your camera.
2) Video Capture Mode - Use this mode to capture videos with your camera.
3) Playback Mode (for photos and videos) - Use this mode to view the photos and
videos you have already taken with your camera.
When the camera is first powered ON, the Photo Capture Mode will be active by
default.
The icons that appear on the LCD screen are the best default settings so that you
can begin to capture and enjoy clear quality photos.
To change the active camera mode, make sure the camera is powered ON and press the
MODE button.
When in Photo Capture Mode, this icon will display on the top-left corner of the
LCD display
When in Video Capture Mode, this icon will display on the top-left corner of the
LCD display
When in Playback Mode, this icon will display on the top-left corner of the LCD
display Mode selection

Navigating the Menus
Each camera mode has a set of menus specific to that mode.
1) Press the MENU (M) button to open the menus for the current mode.
2) Press the LEFT or RIGHT direction control buttons to scroll between the various
menus for the current mode.
3) Press the UP or DOWN direction control buttons to highlight the desired menu
option.
4) Press the MENU (M) button to select and save the highlighted menu option and
return to the previous mode screen.
5) An icon of your saved option appears on the LCD display. Changes made to
these options will remain as is until you decide to change them again at a later
time.
6) Some menu options are single-use functions that are not remembered by the
camera and do not display this icon when selected.
7) At any time you can press the MENU (M) button to exit the menus and return to
the previous screen.

Photo Capture Mode
The Photo Capture mode allows you to capture pictures with your digital camera.
This is the default mode when turning on your camera.
Taking a Picture
1) While in Photo Capture mode, use the LCD display on the back of the camera to
direct the camera at the scene you would like to capture.
2) Press the T/Zoom In and W/Zoom Out buttons to zoom in/out if
desired.
Note: The actual shape of these buttons may vary per camera model.
3) Hold the camera steady and press the Shutter button to take the photo.
4) The picture will automatically be saved to the SD Memory card.
Note: There will be a short delay while the camera saves the JPEG photo to the
memory.
After each photo is taken (when the camera returns to Photo Capture mode) the number
of photos left to capture at the selected resolution is displayed on the top right of the LCD
screen.
When the camera's memory (photo capacity) is full, the LCD screen will display a
message - “Memory Full, Insert a SD memory card to Transfer and Take More
Photos!”
Either download the photos to your computer using the Vivitar Experience Image
Manager software as described below in the section “Transferring Media from
your Camera to your Computer Manually” and thereafter delete them from your
SD card or insert another SD card to continue taking more photos and videos.
Note: This camera requires a SD memory (up to 32 GB) card to operate normally. The
limited internal memory allows you to take one test photo that will be erased when the
camera powers off.

Self Portrait Photo Capture
You can also include yourself in your photos by using the Self Portrait capability.
1) Push the Macro switch lever up for the flower icon to appear.
2) Hold the camera steady at arm‟s length (30~45cm).
3) Look at the camera lens. You can also see yourself in the small mirror located to
the left of the lens.
4) Click the Shutter button to take the picture.

Photo Capture Mode Quick Function Buttons
Your digital camera has a four-directional pad that functions as Quick Function buttons:

Down / Self Timer
Self-Timer –Sets a delay from the time the Shutter button is
pressed to the time the image is captured. As you press the
Self Timer button, the LCD display shows the Self-Timer
delay options:
Off, 2 seconds, 5 seconds, or 10 seconds
Up / Flash
Flash –Toggles the Flash options appearing on the LCD:
Auto, Force Flash, Red Eye Reduction, No Flash
Right / Delete
Delete –Allows you to delete the last photo taken
Left / Scene
Scene Selection –Opens the Scene menu options:
Auto, Night Portrait, Night Scenery, Portrait, Scenery, Sport,
Party, Beach, High Sensitivity
Other
MENU (M)
Opens the menu options for Photo Capture Mode.
Note: To navigate through the Menus, use the
LEFT/RIGHT/UP/DOWN directions control buttons.
Saves your selected Menu option.

Digital Zoom
You can magnify your subject up to 4 times using the digital zoom.
Press the Tbutton to zoom in on the object and press the Wbutton to zoom back out.
The following icon appears on your LCD screen.
The zoom indicating bar moves up when you Zoom In (T) and moves down when you
Zoom Out (W).
Flash Options
There are several Flash options available on your camera. The options appear on the
Photo Capture Mode LCD screen in sequence.
To change the Flash mode, press the UP Quick Function button until you arrive at your
desired settings.
Note: The Macro mode must be turned OFF when you want to use the Flash.
Slide the Macro Switch to the mountain icon to turn Macro mode OFF.
Flash Type
Description
Forced Off (Default)
No flash will appear.
Use this when you do not want to activate Flash.
A
Auto Flash
When you want the camera to determine if Flash is needed,
select Auto Flash.
The flash will automatically turn on according to the lighting
conditions.
Note: An initial flash appears to test your lighting conditions. If
flash is needed, a second flash will appear upon taking the photo.
Forced On
The flash is enabled for each photo.
Note: If you use this option in a well lit environment, your photo
may be appear too bright/light (overexposed).
Red Eye
Eliminates the red-eye effect in a photo caused by flash.

Macro Switch /
Your camera includes a Macro Switch that allows you to manually enable or disable the
Macro mode on your camera.
To turn Macro mode ON:
While using the Macro mode, you can capture images at close range (30~45cm).
To turn the Macro mode ON, slide the Macro Switch up on the side of your camera to
the flower icon .
When enabled, the Macro mode allows your camera to focus on an object that is
close to the camera.
The flower icon appears on the LCD and indicates that the Macro mode is ON.
To turn Macro mode OFF:
Slide the Macro Switch down on the side of the camera to the mountain icon.
The mountain icon appears on the LCD and indicates that the Macro mode is
OFF.
When Macro mode is off, images can be captured from 1.5m –infinity (regular/far
shooting photo capture).
Note: Macro mode must be turned OFF, showing the mountain icon , in order to use
Flash.
If the Macro mode is on when you would like to active the Flash, “Macro Mode. No
Flash.” will appear in red text on the LCD screen to remind you to turn the Macro mode
OFF so that the Flash can be activated.

Photo Capture Mode Menus
The following are the menus that appear in your camera‟s Photo Capture Mode:
Scene, Image Size, Anti-Shake, Face Detect, Smile Capture, Continue Shot, Self Timer,
and Setup (General Camera Settings)
Scene Menu
The Scene Menu allows you to choose scene settings that let your camera to adapt
properly to your current environment.
The Scene options include:
Auto, Night Portrait, Night Scenery, Portrait, Scenery, Sport, Party, Beach, High
Sensitivity
Note: When selecting the HIGH SENSITIVITY option, by default the camera switches
off the FLASH automatically (if it‟s ON) to optimize the picture quality. If however, you
would like to override it and manually turn ON the flash –you can do so.
1) Press the MENU (M) button to open the menus for the current mode.
2) Press the LEFT or RIGHT direction control buttons to scroll and select the Scene
menu.
3) Press the UP or DOWN direction control buttons to scroll through the menu
options.
4) Press the MENU (M) button to select and save the desired option, exit the menu
screen and return to your previous mode.
5) An icon reflecting your selection will display on the LCD screen.
6) Remember that this setting will be saved by your camera until you manually
change the setting or restore the camera‟s default factory settings.
