35 Residual risks
Noise
If inadequate ear protection is worn, the impact of high noise levels can
cause permanent hearing loss and other problems such as tinnitus (a
ringing, whooshing, whistling or buzzing noise in the ear). The owner must
carry out a risk assessment regarding these hazards and take measures to
reduce noise and protect health. Observe the following:
The VOGT Air Lance must be operated and maintained as
recommended in the manual.
Take additional measures to reduce noise in the workplace.
Use hearing protection equipment in accordance with your employer’s
policies and/or health and safety regulations.
Dust/fumes
When using the lance for dry cleaning/sand blasting, low-toxicity (harmful),
toxic, highly toxic, carcinogenic, teratogenic or mutagenic substances can
be emitted into the work environment/on the objects to be cleaned. The
owner must carry out a risk assessment regarding these hazards and must
take measures to prevent hazardous substances from being released or,
if they are, to collect them and divert them away and/or provide personal
protective equipment. Observe the following:
The risk assessment must cover the types of dust generated during
use as well as the types of dust that may already be circulating in the
air.
If any dust or fumes are released, the top priority is to monitor these
where they are released.
The VOGT Air Lance must be operated and maintained as
recommended in the manual.
Observe the material safety data sheets for the operating materials
used.
Use respiratory protection equipment in accordance with your
employer’s policies and/or health and safety regulations.
Ejected objects
Objects, dust, materials, loose workpieces or the lance itself can be ejected
during use:
Ensurethatanycomponentorworkpiecetobeworkedonisxed
securely in place.
Always wear impact-resistant eye protection. The level of protection
should be assessed separately for each use.
Wear a safety helmet when working overhead.
Also assess risks to other people within the working range of the
device and take appropriate safety precautions.

The VOGT compressed air devices are carried to the place of use. We
recommend using the VOGT transport case available as an accessory or
a similar transport aid for this purpose. The transport case has space for
the compressed air device, the most important accessories, the operating
manual and other documents if required.
When transporting inside a vehicle, ensure that the VOGT compressed air
device is secured against slipping, rolling around, falling over and falling
down. Any transport case used should always be securely closed.
NOTE: The VOGT Air Lance VL 3.5 S is delivered without a transport case.

52 Mounting the VOGT Air Lance with the VOGT
sandblasting unit
When using the VOGT sandblasting unit, ensure that the abrasive medium
is dry and free from lumps and caking. Damp abrasive medium can
become lumpy and is often the reason for malfunctions. Maximum grain
size1.5mm.
To mount the VOGT Air Lance with the VOGT sandblasting unit, please
proceed as follows:
1. Slide the rubber protection cap onto the lance tube.
2. Screw the VOGT sandblasting unit onto the lance tube.
3. Place the intake tube with the intake hose into the abrasive medium.
53 Mounting the VOGT Air Lance with the VOGT spray
attachment
To mount the VOGT Air Lance with the VOGT spray attachment, please
proceed as follows:
1. Slide the rubber protection cap onto the lance tube.
2. Screw the VOGT spray attachment onto the lance tube.
3. Place the intake tube with the intake hose into the liquid storage tank.
54 Establishing the compressed air supply
The compressed air supply (e.g. from a compressor) must meet the
following criteria:
Only use non-lubricated, condensate-free compressed air. Use a
processing unit for compressed air if required.
Working pressure range: 3 to 10 bar (43 to 145 psi).

Connecting the compressed air supply
Follow these steps to connect your VOGT Air Lance to the compressed air
supply:
1. Secure the connecting coupling using a hose clamp (I91 011).
2. Check that the stop cock of the VOGT Air Lance is closed.
3. Connect the compressed air supply (e.g. a compressor) and the
actuating element to a suitable hose. Pay particular attention to the
correct seating of the claw couplings. This requires an air supply hose
with an internal diameter of at least 3/4 inch.
4. Open the compressed air feed for the compressed air supply.
5. Check that the hoses and couplings are leak-tight. If leaks occur, switch
othecompressedairsupplyandreplacethehoseimmediately!
Selecting the operating pressure
The operating pressure is set either on the compressed air supply itself or
usingapressuregage(Z410)ttedbetweenthecompressedairsupply
and the pneumatic control.

6 Safe use
The VOGT compressed air devices enable you to work quickly and
eortlessly.However,powerfulcompressedairdevicesposesome
fundamental risks. Pay attention to the information in chapter 3 “General
safety instructions,” as well as the following information:
General information
When working with the VOGT Air Lance, always hold it with both hands
– one hand on the handle of the lance tube and the other hand on the
actuating element.
When working with the VOGT Air Lance, adopt a comfortable posture,
ensure you are holding it securely and avoid uncomfortable positions or
any in which it is hard to keep your balance. You should shift your posture
whenworkingforlongperiods,whichcanhelptoavoidodiscomfortand
tiredness.
The user’s hands can be exposed to hazards including blows, cuts, grazes,
abrasions, cold and heat while using the device. Wear suitable gloves to
protect your hands.
Users must be physically capable of handling the size, weight, and power
of the device.
Should the compressed air supply stop suddenly, release the trigger lever
immediately.
If you experience symptoms such as persistent discomfort, pain,
throbbing,aching,itching,deafness,burningorstiness,youshouldnot
ignore the warning signs. Stop work, tell your employer and consult a
physician.
Breaks from work
When taking breaks from work, remember the following points:
Before putting down the compressed air device, close the stop cock to
prevent inadvertent triggering.
Ensure that the compressed air device is lying or standing securely and
cannot tip over or fall down.
Ending work
After ending work, remember the following points:
Switchothecompressedairsupply.
Actuate the trigger lever to drain the remaining air from the hose.
Close the stop cock and disconnect the depressurized hose.

Operating the VOGT Air Lance
A high output can only be achieved if the compressor air is dosed correctly
and the VOGT Air Lance is operated correctly. The angle at which the VOGT
Air Lance is used is extremely important. If the angle is too shallow, the
airowslipsothesurfaceandbecomesineective.Werecommendan
angle of at least 60°; the optimum angle is 90°.
TheVOGTAirLanceisveryeectiveusedonsolidmaterialsinacircular
motion. It is important to keep the areas to be worked on free from
released material.
1. Open the stop cock.
2. Gently place the VOGT Air Lance onto the material. Even a distance of
more than two centimeters to the object to be processed makes the
airowineective.
3. Use your hand to operate the trigger lever. It must never be locked in
place using any auxiliary equipment.
4. Regulate the emitted air volume on the stop cock.
5. Release the trigger lever as soon as you change the position or
complete the work.
