1 Assembly and disassembly of VC-MDx Recorder
If the recorder is rack mounted and must be removed for any reason e.g. internal hardware
components must be replaced or additional hardware needs to be added, the recorder itself must
first be removed from the rackRemove all cables, plugs and other accesses that are plugged into
the back of the recorder
•Open the 4 screws

•Take the recorder by the handles and carefully pull it out of the cabinet.
•Put the recorder on a safe place.
•When the task is done, take the recorder by the handles and slide it back into the rack.
•Fasten the screws and make sure the recorder is mounted correctly and securely
•Connect all cables and plugs

2 How to replace Hardware components
Note: Depending on the used recorder hardware model, the following images may differ
2.1 Replacement of SSD
•Open the front door of the recorder (e.g. COTS Model RM4 / RM8).
•The slot with the defective SSD/HDD must be unlocked with the special key. The key was
delivered with the accessories of the recorder.
•Press the lock and the latch will unlock
•The slot with the SSD can be removed.
•Remove slot with SSD / HDD and open the 4 screws
•Remove SSD / HDD device and insert a new one.
•Place the new storage device in the frame and screw it in place.
•Take the frame and slide it back into the RAID cage.
•Make sure the frame clicks into place and lock the slot again with the key.

2.2 Replacement of HDD
•Open the front door of the recorder (e.g. COTS Model B).
•Pull the blue hook of the slot with the defective HDD and remove the entire slot
•Remove slot with defective HDD and open the 4 screws
•Remove HDD device and insert a new one.
•Place the new storage device in the frame and screw it in place.
•Take the frame and slide it back into the RAID cage.
•Press the blue kook to lock the RAID cage.

2.3 Replacement of PSU
Note: Depending on the used recorder hardware model, the following images may differ
•Unplug all power cables
•Release the lock screw of the faulty PSU
•Take the handle of the faulty PSU module and pull out the PSU module.
•Insert the new PSU and fix the screws again.
•Plug the power cable, you can switch on the PSU again.

•Switch of the PSU
•Unplug all power cables
•Open the screws of the faulty PSU
•Take the handle of the faulty PSU module and pull out the PSU module
•Insert the new PSU and fix the screws again.
•Plug the power cable, you can switch on the PSU again.

2.4 Replacement of a Recording Interface Board
•Shut down the recorder application
•Switch off the power
•Make sure that all cables and connectors are disconnected from the recorder
•Disassemble the recorder from the rack
•Put the recorder on a safe place.
•Open the screws of the recorder housing cover and remove it.
•Open the screws of the protective rail and remove it
•If analogue interface board must be replaced, please remove first the alarm cable
•Open the screws of the slot bracket of the interface board to be replaced and remove it
carefully
•Pull the board vertically (extract from the PCI connector).
•Keep the board in an antistatic bag.

Empty PCI slots
Insert a new board
•Remove the board from his antistatic bag.
•Do not touch the components or the gold connectors of the board with fingers.
•Insert the board in the same PCI slot.
•Take care that it fits correctly
•Put and screw the cover of the recorder.
•Don’t forget to plug the alarm cable if present.
Note: If for any reason more than one interface board was replaced, please take care that the same type of
interface board will be inserted in the same PCI slot again.
