Designed to catch the light brilliantly,
this car also reflects a promise.
Thankfully, the automotive industry is moving away from fantasyland to the real world.
Our journey towards a better environment started already in the early 70’s. Then
we were among the first carmakers to acknowledge the environmental downside
of cars and to do something about it. Since then we are constantly innovating to
reduce the environmental impact of the cars and how we make them.
Today’s biggest challenge is, of course, to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions that
cause climate change. Today we offer one of the premium segments strongest ranges
of low CO2alternatives: the Volvo DRIVe variants. Utilising innovative powertrain
technology together with advanced aerodynamics, low friction technology and
lightweight materials, the DRIVe range is an important step towards zero emissions.
In near future we will introduce new technology such as plug-in hybrid vehicles that
will further reduce CO2emissions and can be charged from a standard wall socket.
And we’re heavily engaged in the development of electrical vehicles – a technology
that will dramatically reduce the environmental footprint of our cars and make them
even more fun to drive.
Good for you, and for the world we share.
FRESH cabin air.
Continuously monitoring incoming air a nd shutting out c arbon
monoxide, ground-level ozone and nitrogen dioxide , Volvo’s Inter ior
Air Qualit y System helps ensure that the air you breathe in the car is
cleaner than that outside when driving in heav y cit y traf fic .
Flexifuel for lower fossil CO2 emissions.
Running on E85 bioet han ol in a Volvo Flexi fuel (2.0 F), you can
significantly cut your greenhouse gas emissions. B ecause bioethanol
is a renewable fuel, the carbon dioxi de emissions from combustion
is already pa rt of the ecosystem and won’t c ontribute to greenhouse
gas levels in the atmosphere.
Allergy-tested interior materials.
All our upholsteries and interior textiles are tested for cert ain allergy -
inducing or harmful subs tances an d comp ly with Oeko-Tex Standard
100. And several interior metal deta ils are tested with regard to
contact allergies. Good for you, a nd for anyone who shares your ride.
104 g CO2 per km.
Our latest eco- pro gress , the Volvo S40 DRI Ve
Star t/Stop, s atisfies itself with only 3.9 lit res fuel per
100 km – for minimum emissions and maximum style.
Green at the red lights.
To further reduce fuel consumption and CO2emissions when driving
in the city, the DRIVe turbodiesel is available with Volvo’s new
Star t/Stop technology.
Brake for energy.
Driving any of the turbodiesels, the bat ter y is fed with extra power
everytime you brake. Smart and fuel-saving.
85% recyclable.
To help minimise its tot al environmental impact , ever y
Volvo is designed to facilitate recovery and recyclin g
at the end of its useful life.
Eco driving support.
Displaying when it’s optimum to shift gear, the gear
shift indicator in the DRIVe variants helps you save
fuel and reduce your CO2emissions.
Maximised fuel efficiency with diesel.
Volvo’s advanc ed co mmon-rail turbodiesel technol ogy
ensures superior fuel economy and low CO2emissions
– from the 109 hp DRIVe Start/Stop to the new 177 hp D4.
Cleaner exhaust.
Fast responding af ter a cold star t, Volvo’s advanced emission control
eliminates between 95 and 99% of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons
and nitrogen oxides from petrol engine exhaust ga ses. The Volvo
turbodiesels feature a p articulate filter that rem oves about 95% of
the particles from the diesel exhaust gases.
Fuel-saving design.
To reduce energy-loss from wind and roll resistance, we utilise
advanced aerodynamic design, light-weight materials and low-friction
technology. Togeth er wit h state-of-the-art engine technology, this
lowers your CO2emissions and helps you travel fur ther on less fuel.
