HRD 92 S.C
PAGE | 9
7.1 CALIBRATION
The detector is calibrated on delivery.
Initial Calibration can be changed by opening the Detector cabinet and should
only be performed by a qualified person with the necessary equipment.
7.2 START UP
The Detector is designed for the detection of refrigerant gas leaks by sniffing at atmospheric
pressure. It allows locating and estimating the value of the leak.
1
• After connecting the Detection Block to the cable through the quick-release
socket, toggle the STOP switch up, and check that the GREEN light " BATT " is
lit indicating the good charge of the batteries.
• If the LED is off, or is dimly lit , there is insufficient battery charge and these need
to be recharged.
2
At start-up, the Detector controls the luminous ramp and the Buzer , then goes
into heating position with lighting of the Orange light " D ".
3
After about a minute, the light " D " Indicates that the unit is ready to detect.
4
The light " S " SATURATION / CONTAMINATION comes on during the Detector
heating period and is normally off or very dimly lit. It is best to wait for the LED to
go out before you begin detection.
7.3 DETECTION
EN

HRD 92 S.C
PAGE | 10
The detection response time is less than the second. The operator must wait, for each point
to control, the time necessary for a possible detection.
• For quick response and good detection, the sniffer probe should be as close as possible
to the leakage point to be controlled.
• When a leak is detected, the light ramp lights in proportion to the value of the detected
leak.
oImmediately remove the probe from the leakage point to avoid saturation
of the cell.
oIn case of big leaks, the degassing of the cell causes the lighting of the
ORANGE light " D ".
Wait until the LED goes off " D " and possibly the light " S " before continuing
the detection.
Example : With Sensitivity switch in position "x1" Estimation of the value of the leak
detected on the light beam : - 1g/year light 1 on
-5 g/year light 5 on

HRD 92 S.C

7.4 ADJUSTING THE SENSITIVITY AND TYPE OF GAS
• ADJUSTING THE SENSITIVITY : using the Sensitivity Inverter
>UP position « x1 » Normal sensitivity.
Estimated reading of the value of the leak on the graduated ramp
>CENTRAL position « HI » Sensitivity 3 times stronger
Reading on the graduated ramp 0.3, 0.6, 1, 1.5, 3 g/year
>BOTTOM position « LO » Sensitivity 3 times lower for locating large leaks
Reading on the graduated ramp 3, 6, 9, 15, 30 g/year
• ADJUSTING THE GAS TYPE : using the Gas Inverter
>« HFC » for R22, R134a, R404a, R407c, and mixtures.
(For the R410a use the HF0 position)
>« HFO » for R 1.2.3.4ze & 1.2.3.4ye and mixtures.
>« HC » for R600 & R290.
>For the tracer mixture H2 / N2 - Put the inverter Gas on « H2 / N2 » and sensitivity
inverter on « HI ». If sensitivity is too large, pass on the position « 1 » or « LO ».
7.5 LIGHT « S » SATURATION / CONTAMINATION
• This light will be ON during the warm-up time of the detector and will then light OFF or
stay very tiny ON.
• If the light is on, the atmosphere of the room is contaminated and it is desirable to limit
the maximum duration of use of the detector to avoid accelerated weakness of the sensor
sensitivity.
• If the light flash when detecting a leak. Pull off the sniffing pipe from the leak point and
wait for the necessary degassing time of the detector until the “S” light is OFF.

6
EN

HRD 92 S.C
PAGE | 12
7.6 ZERO & AMBIENT CONTAMINATION
• The detector automatically adjusts its ZERO according to the ambient conditions. The
detector's automatic zeroing allows leak detection in contaminated conditions
• However, contamination always produces a 'masking' effect on leaks and it should be
limited as much as possible. The lower the ambient contamination the better one can
detect minor leaks.
• High contamination can result in ZERO instability with the lighted display being on. In such
a case it is essential to ventilate the premises, as the excessive level of contamination will
make valid leak hunting impossible.

HRD 92 S.C
PAGE | 13
7.7 POWER & BATTERY RECHARGING
The unit is equipped with a set of batteries giving a full-charge continuous-working of
approx. 4 hours.
During charging the orange « CHARGE » light must be ON.
Full charging takes approx. 12 hours and must never exceed 24 hours.
3 hours of charge for 1 hour of use.
NEVER USE A DIFFERENT CHARGER TO THE ONE SUPPLIED WITH
THE DETECTOR (E.G. CALCULATOR CHARGER OR OTHER).
The unit can be charged from a 12V car-battery, when using the special charger delivered
for this purpose.
The batteries equipping the unit have little memory effect and can be recharged when the
user need it suitable.
8 PERIODICAL CHECKS & OPERATING ANOMALIES
7.1 PERIODICAL CHECKS
• To check the sensitivity of the detector, it is essential to have a Refrigerant gas « Test
Leak » of known value.
Present the pipe to port sniffing « Test leak ».
Check the correct lighting of the lightbar and the response time.
If the Sensitivity of the Detector has been checked with an R134a Test Leak on the position
« HFC » or 1234ze on the position « HF0 » sensitivity can be considered as valid for other
gases or mixtures.
• As part of the Quality Assurance standards, we recommend that you carry out an annual
audit at the Vulkan manufacturer, which will draw up a verification report in accordance
with the EN 14624 standard valid for one year.
NEVER EXPOSE THE DETECTOR TO A JET (EVEN VERY FINE) OF PURE GAS TO
TEST THE SENSITIVITY. THIS WOULD DESENSITIZE OR DESTROY THE
DETECTION CELL.
EN

HRD 92 S.C
PAGE | 14
7.1 OPERATING ANOMALIES
The main defect of the detector is a long response time following the detection of a leak.
It can be due to several factors:
• Check for clogging of the pipe or filter (main factor).
• Check the tightness of the pipe sniffing
• Check the correct charge of the batteries
• Check the normal noise of the suction motor.
The central cabinet has no routine maintenance.
