Setup
1. Open the battery door. Insert four new alkaline C-cell
batteries in the proper direction. Replace the door.
2. Attach outlet (a) and suction (b) hoses to the pump and
secure the clamps. Open the locking door on the drive
housing. Place the pump and suction hose assembly as
shown, making sure the oval slot (c) in the rear of the
pump goes over the brass axle. Snap door shut.
WARNING - Improper installation of batteries may cause
batteries to overheat and leak acid. Acid may cause
severe injury and / or property damage. Setup continued on next page.

3. Attach one end of hose to roller handle. Make sure hose
clip is in place (a).Attach small air hose to handle (b).
4. Attach small air hose to fitting on base (c).
NOTICE - Use drop cloths to protect your floors and
furnishings.
NOTICE - Do not carry the unit around by the strap. Use
the material container handle.
5. Place lid onto material container. Align groove (d) and
hole (e) with the handle of the material container as
shown.
6. Place material container onto the base. Hook the strap to
one side of the base and bring the strap over the groove on
the lid. Secure hook to other side of the base. Insert suction
hose through the hole in the lid and into the material.
7. Assemble core (f),roller cover (g), and cap (h). Attach
roller assembly to arm, making sure the roller assembly
snaps into the locking tab (i) as shown.
8. Press the quick-release tabs on the handle (j) and attach
arm to the handle. When using the extension, attach the
arm to the extension, then attach the extension to the
handle. If painting a ceiling, attach spatter shield.

Using the handle button
• Always make sure to open a window or door to ensure proper ventilation.
• Make sure the area you are painting has been properly prepared (tape off around floor, window and door moldings and use
drop cloths to protect floors and furnishings). Paint only one surface at a time.
•Pick an area to start where you can saturate the roller cover and evenly distribute the paint. Working in three-foot sections,
begin by cutting-in around windows, doors, cabinets, base and other breaks in the wall surface.
• For best coverage results, start painting at one end of a wall and roll out the letter “W”. Fill it in with crosswise strokes,
working your way across the wall in 3’ x3’ sections. Finish the sections by painting one solid swipe from ceiling to floor.This
will give you a nice even paint finish.
• Be careful not to over-saturate the roller cover as it may drip, slide on the wall or spatter.
• Make sure to run the roller cover over the areas you cut-in around the trim and baseboards to even out the texture.
•If you need to stop and take a break; finish painting the entire wall, or stop at a break in the wall such as a doorway or corner
to prevent lap marks. During extended break periods, place your roller cover assembly in a plastic bag to keep it from drying
out.
1. To start the motor, FULLY PRESS AND RELEASE the handle button.
2. When paint appears through the roller, PRESS AND RELEASE handle
button to shut off the motor and stop the flow of paint.
1) Continuous Flow
The continuous flow method is recommended when you are
painting a large area with the roller.
1. FULLY PRESS AND RELEASE handle button to start
flow of paint.
2. FULLY PRESS AND RELEASE handle button again to
stop flow of paint.
Priming:
Painting (2 methods):
2) Stop and Start
The Stop and Start method is recomended when you are
painting a smaller area and wish to have more flow control.
1. PARTIALLY DEPRESS AND HOLD the handle button
until material appears through the roller pad. Material will
continue to flow while button is held in this position.
2. RELEASE BUTTON to stop flow of material.
Painting Tips:

Purging the paint hose
When you are finished with your project, follow these steps to return any remaining material left in the hose back into its
container. These steps should be followed no matter what type of material you used.
1. Remove suction tube from material container and place in
bucket of appropriate cleaning solution (warm, soapy
water for latex paints, mineral spirits for oil-based paints).
2. Remove spatter shield.
3. Press locking tab (a) and drop roller cover assembly into
abucket of the appropriate cleaning solution.
4. Remove lid and hold roller arm over material container.
FULLY PRESS AND RELEASE the handle button to
pump material through the hose and into the material
container. Fully press handle button again when cleaning
solution starts to come out of the roller arm.
IMPORTANT
The pump assembly and hoses that come with your unit have been designed to be disposable.
• If you used latex materials and want to throw away the hoses, follow the Cleaning the roller handle and roller arm
instructions (page 8). If you throw away the hoses, new hoses can be purchased at the retailer where you
purchased this roller.
• If you want to clean the hoses for future use, however, follow the Cleanup - latex materials or the Cleanup - oil based
materials steps on the following pages.
IF YOU USED OIL-BASED MATERIALS, DO NOT THROW AWAY THE HOSES UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED ALL OF THE
STEPS IN THE CLEANUP FOR OIL-BASED MATERIALS SECTION (PAGE 7). YOU WILL NEED THE HOSES IN ORDER TO
CLEAN YOUR ROLLER HANDLE AND ROLLER ARM.

Cleanup - latex materials
1. Elevate roller arm and hang from an empty bucket. The
unit must be lower than the roller arm in order for air to be
completely purged from the paint hose (DO NOT
SUBMERGE ROLLER HANDLE).
2. FULLY PRESS AND RELEASE the handle button, and
run a minimum of one gallon of soapy, lukewarm water
through the unit (cleaning time may vary depending upon
type of paint used).
*The empty bucket
should be larger than
the cleaning bucket.
3. Remove suction tube from solution (a),raise UNIT above
ROLLER HANDLE,and run motor until all cleaning
solution is purged from the unit. PRESS AND RELEASE
the handle button to shut off the unit.
4. Todisassemble and clean the roller assembly,insert
thumb to first knuckle, PRYand PULL the cap from the
roller cover. Once the cap is removed, PUSH the core out
the other end. Drop the parts into a bucket of the
appropriate cleaning solution and clean by hand.
5. Press quick-release tabs and remove the roller arm from
the roller handle. Remove any remaining paint with the
appropriate cleaning solution and a damp cloth (DO NOT
SUBMERGE HANDLE).
6. Remove pump from base. Pull piston out from rear of
pump and lubricate the indicated area with petroleum jelly.
Insert the piston back into the pump and replace the
pump into the base.
Move on to Maintenance, page 8.

While unit is self-cleaning,
thoroughly clean the roller
cover, core and cap with
warm, soapy water.
Follow these steps if you plan on saving your hoses for future use. If you plan to throw away of the hoses, follow the
Cleaning the roller handle and roller arm steps, page 8.

Cleanup - oil-based materials
1. Place roller arm and suction tube in a bucket filled with
approximately one quart of mineral spirits.
2. FULLY PRESS AND RELEASE the handle button and
recirculate one quart of mineral spirits through the unit for
approximately 10 minutes (cleaning time may vary
depending on type of paint used. Never leave unit
running while unattended).
3. To disassemble and clean the roller assembly, insert
thumb to first knuckle, PRY and PULL the cap from the
roller cover. Once the cap is removed, PUSH the core out
the other end. Drop the parts into a bucket of the
appropriate cleaning solution and clean by hand.
4. While unit is self-cleaning, thoroughly clean the roller
cover, core and cap with mineral spirits.
5. Repeat steps 1-6 in Cleanup - latex materials using a half gallon of warm, soapy water to complete the cleaning process.
Steps 1-6 in Cleanup - latex materials must be repeated using warm, soapy water in order to purge any remaining mineral
spirits from the paint hose. Unpurged mineral spirits can damage the hoses, roller arm, and roller handle over time. If you
plan to throw away the hoses, do not do so until you have completed these steps.
Move on to Maintenance, page 8.
NOTICE - Make sure the mineral spirits you use for
cleaning is properly disposed of when cleanup is finished.

Cleaning the roller handle and roller arm
Follow these steps only if you 1) used latex materials, 2) and plan on throwing away the pump and hoses.
1. Remove large hose and small air hose from the roller
handle.
2. Open the base door and remove the pump and suction
hose assembly. You can now dispose of the suction
hose, the pump assembly, and the longer paint hose.
3. To disassemble and clean the roller assembly, insert
thumb to first knuckle, PRY and PULL the cap from the
roller cover. Once the cap is removed, PUSH the core out
the other end. Drop the parts into a bucket or sink filled with
warm, soapy water and clean by hand.
4. Press the quick-release tabs on the handle and separate
the roller arm from the roller handle. Place the connecting
areas of each under a sink running with warm water until all
material is flushed out.
Maintenance
IMPORTANT
The areas on the roller handle indicated below must be
cleaned thoroughly and lubricated after each use. ALL paint
should be removed from the areas highlighted in gray below,
especially the quick-release tabs and all other areas that
connect with other parts. This can be done by using the
appropriate cleaning solution and an old toothbrush (DO NOT
SUBMERGE ROLLER HANDLE).
In addition to thoroughly cleaning after every use, you must
CLEAN and LUBRICATE the areas on the roller arm indicated
below. Use a thin layer of petroleum jelly to lubricate the
indicated areas.

warranty. Be sure you write your unit’s date code on the card before sending it. The date code is located below the specification label
underneath the base of your unit (for example, S087R). The additional information will also help us to develop new products that best
meet your needs and desires.
Problem
The pump will not run
The motor and piston run, but
there is little or no fluid flow.
The motor does not turn off.
There is paint leakage.
Cause
1. The batteries are weak.
2. The batteries are not installed properly.
3. The ends of the batteries are tarnished.
4. The air hose is not connected securely.
5. The pump has seized up.
1. The batteries are weak.
2. The fluid hose is leaking.
3. The inlet or outlet valves are plugged.
4. Suction tube not immersed into paint.
5. Paint residue in the pump.
6. The hose fittings on the pump are loose.
1. The handle button is activated.
2. There is a kink in the air hose.
3. There is an air switch malfunction.
1. The seal on the roller arm is backwards or
missing.
2. The seal and cap were not properly cleaned.
3. The O-rings on the arm and handle, or the
connecting area were not cleaned properly.
4. Paint residue on connecting areas.
5. The roller arm O-rings are damaged or
missing.
6. The roller cover is worn or damaged.
7. The roller core or cap is worn or damaged.
8. The bearing areas on the roller arm are worn.
9. The paint hose is damaged.
Solution
1. Put in new high-quality alkaline batteries.
2. Install batteries correctly.
3. Wipe off the ends of the batteries.
4. Connect the air hose.
5. Clean the piston and pump housing.
1. Put in new high-quality alkaline batteries.
2. Tighten the fluid hose securely.
3. Clean / replace the inlet or outlet valves.
4. Immerse tube fully into paint.
5. Disassemble and clean the pump. See page
26 for pump diagram.
6. Tighten the fittings.
1. Press and release handle button.
2. Unkink the air hose.
3. Remove batteries, then call Technical Service.
1. Turn the seal around or replace the seal.
2. Clean and properly lubricate.
3. Clean and properly lubricate.

Assemblage
1. Ouvrez le compartiment à piles. Insérez quatre piles C
alcalines neuves selon les indications. Refermez le
compartiment.
2. Fixez les tuyaux de sortie (a) et d'aspiration (b) au pompe
yfixez les colliers. Ouvrez le boîtier d’entraînement.
Placez l’assemblage de la pompe et du tuyau d’aspiration
tel qu’illustré, en vous assurant que l’encoche ovale (c) à
l’arrière de la pompe se trouve par-dessus l’axe de laiton.
Refermez le boîtier.
