Safety notes
Read this document carefully before beginning the installation.
Installation, maintenance and repair of this enclosure may only be carried out by quali-
fied, authorised personnel (in accordance with IEC/EN 60079-17 and IEC/EN 60079-19,
IEC/EN 60079-14), whose level of knowledge also extends to the various degrees of
protection and installation practices, and who is also familiar with the relevant guide-
lines and provisions as well as the general principles of area classification.
Make sure that the supplied documentation is accessible to operating staff at all times.
Pay attention to the information on the type plate of the enclosure, including the
protection class(es), gas group and temperature class.
Loss of explosion protection due to incorrect installation.
Twisting and straining of enclosures or covers can cause leakage.
• Make sure that the enclosure is only installed on a flat surface.
• Ensure that the enclosure and cover are not installed under any strain.
Potential crushing hazard.
• When shutting the enclosure, keep hands and fingers clear.
Risk of burns due to hot surfaces.
• Before commencing work, check the temperature of the enclosure to avoid burns.
If necessary, use heat-resistant gloves.
Loss of explosion protection due to contaminated surfaces.
A dust layer of more than 5 mm on the enclosure surface can lead to the enclosure
becoming overheated.
• Make sure that enclosure surfaces are cleaned regularly.

6
Loss of explosion protection due to damaged enclosures.
Damage to the enclosure and/or seals can cause leakage.
• Use the appropriate packaging during transport to avoid damage to the enclosure.
• Always transport larger and/or heavier enclosures with a
suitable transportation device, or with the help of a second person.
• Make sure that the cover is not at risk of falling off
when opening and detaching the enclosure.
• Always store the enclosure in its original packaging, and only in dry surroundings.
Intended use
The assembled enclosures of the Klippon®product family are only intended for fixed
installation in explosive risk zones in accordance with their specification.
The empty enclosures of the Klippon®product family are intended to hold approved
components and/or devices. Ready-to-use assembled enclosures must be assessed and
approved by a certified body.

Opening the Enclosure / Klippon TB MH Version
Place enclosure in a vertical upright position. Loosen the lid cover fixings screws with a
suitable tool (refer to diagram 1 below). After loosening the covers screws, the lid can
be opened up to approximately 130°.
Removing the lid
The lid should be removed by loosening the cover fixing screws and any attached lid
bonding cable with a suitable tool. After loosening the fixing screws the cover lid must
be opened to a 90° position (refer to diagram 2 below). With the lid in this position, lift
the lid slightly and slide to the outside to release (refer to diagram 3 below). In this way
you are able to fix the lid to either the left or the right hand side of the enclosure (multi
hinge version only). If the lid position is to be fixed to another side, it is also necessary
to reposition the padlock lug to the opposite side.
NOTE
Do not remove the captive element of the screws!

10
Removing the lid / Klippon TB FS Version
The enclosure Klippon TB FS has no hinge!
The lid should be removed by loosening the cover screws with a suitable tool.
After loosening the screws the lid can be detached und the bonding cable between lid
and body can be detached.

NOTE
Do not remove the captive element of the screws!

11
Opening the lid
Open the quarter lock with a suitable tool (refer to diagram 1 below). After opening the
quarter lock, the lid can be opened up to approximately 130°. It’s not possible to remove
the Lid without a tool.
1 2
Removing gland plates
If gland plates are to be used remove them by loosening the gland plate screws with a
suitable tool. Afterwards the plates can be detached.
Closing the enclosure
Ensure that all lid, gland plate, earth stud screws are fully tightened in a crosswise
manor after installation.
Tightening Values
Lid, Gland plates & mounting screws for mounting plates (when present): 2.5 Nm
M10 earth stud (out-/inside): 15.0 Nm
M6 earth stud inside: 6.0 Nm

NOTICE
The permissible drilling area highlighted in the drawing above are the same
for an enclosure that is supplied either with or without a gland plate.
For enclosures that are larger than size KTB MH 765015 the drilling areas
on sides C & D are based on two separate glanding areas. The separation
area is 60mm. Note: Whether gland plates are fitted or not, this separation
area has to be taken into account!

13
Drilling Information (Gland Plate Only)
The available area of the drilling zone for each individual gland plate is detailed below:

NOTE
The allowed drilling zone is 22 mm in distance from the outer edges
of each plate.
Within the indicated drilling zone, various cable entries can be drilled based on the
following table and highlighted conditions.

NOTE
Please follow the indivual guideline of the cable glands.

15
• Drilling of holes by using the specified drilling diameters and gland placement
diameters. (See table above)
• When using gland plates only 20% of the material is allowed to be removed.
(Note: For guidance, ensure a minimum distance of at least 10 mm between the
individual gland placement diameters.)
• When drilling directly into the enclosure (lid or body) only 10% of the material from
each individual side is allowed to be removed
(Note: For guidance, ensure a minimum distance of at least 20 mm between the
individual gland placement diameters.)
• If locknuts are to be used it is essential to decrease the drilling area by the additional
area of the locknut.
• When drilling avoid ANY deformation, overheating of the enclosure or gland plate and
ensure the hole (eg. the cable gland) is sealed afterwards according to the relevant
ingress protection rating (IP).

Inspection, Maintenance and Repairs
be conformed to IEC/EN 60079-14, IEC/EN60079-17 and IEC/EN 60079-19
WARNING!
Disconnect power supply before installing or servicing these enclosures.
Ensure that only authorized and trained personnel perform repairs and maintenance
work. For an Ex-certified enclosure the training has included the instruction of the
various types of protection and installation practices, the relevant rules and regulations.
Inspection / Maintenance
After opening an enclosure, a visual inspection of the lid and gland plate gasket must
be performed to ensure no foreign objects may interfere with the enclosure sealing
function. A visual inspection of the apparatus shall be carried out appropriate to the
installation environment.
Inspection should include verification that all lid & gland plate (where fitted) screws are
secured to the correct torque. Checks should also include that there is no ingress (dust
or liquid) inside the enclosure and that all cable glands and main earth connections are
in good order.

17
Cleaning
The enclosure should be cleaned with a damp cloth. It is not allowed to clean the
enclosure with hydrocarbon based cleaning compounds!
Repair
Only the manufacturers‘authorized parts (like mounting plates, earth studs and gland
plates) are allowed to be used for replacements and modifications.
